Full Version: ATTRIBUTES AND KARMA

Ok I was wondering what the proper cost would be for a cybered character to raise an augmented attribute. The book p 264 says "Raising a natural attribute may raise the augmented attribute value, up to the augmented attributue maximum"

now is this saying taht a cybered individual with say a natural logic of 3 augmented with cerebral boosters to a 6 logic, pays:

1) The new value will be 7 so he should pay 21 karma, which i dont think is what is being said by the rule of the book
or
2) His new natural attribute will go to 4 so he should pay only 12 karma, because he is raising his natural rating, not his augmented one

Several times in this section the book clearly seperates the natural from the augmented, so I am going with if a person has an augmented rating due to cyber or bio ware it is still an augmentation so should therefore always pay the karma cost based on his NATURAl rating , NOT his augmented one.

AM I correct with this interpretation?

To go from Logic 3(6) to Logic 4(7) would cost 12 Karma. That's why you note Augmentation with (parentheses)
Lilt
I'm with both you and Gothic Rose. They pay for the natural rating and not the augmented one. IE: in this case they spend 12 karma rather than 21.
Feshy
Throw in my vote with those two -- 12 karma.

Unless it's modified by the Adept Power of improved attribute... which makes said power pretty well useless. But that's not the case here, obviously.

Nuh uh. Improved Attribute allows you to exceed your racial maximums. it's augmentation, so that means you could have the natural stat at 6, then use it to get up to a 9 - not at all useless. Just expensive.
Jaid
the improved adept power would also make you pay 21 karma instead of 12 karma (iirc), which is the point Feshy was getting at.

although at least that's better than spending a ton more karma on initiating twice and boosting your magic twice to get your improved attribute power higher.

personally, i'm with Feshy... you might as well just go cyber and pay the cost in essence/magic loss instead, you'll be happier, and probably less confused, in the end.
Cold-Dragon
can you actually go beyond the augmented maximum, depending on what you have going for you? I know you can't naturally speaking (you can't spend karma for a 10 attribute when you're human - unless it's exceptional of course).

or did I misread things, and you can't get to the augmented limits except WITH cyber or magic and whatnot???

This is correct... that's why the are called the augmented maximums... it is the maximum you can reach when you factor in things that augment your attributes. The "natrual" racial maximum is what you can get to without such augmentations.
Cold-Dragon
funny, I was 'just' reading a line that suggested that when I came back to see if someone replied, lol.

Thank you for the answer.
