A few weeks ago there I found a thread on these boards where a poster wrote out a little tutorial on hacking the the form of a story about a run from the hackers point of view.
I believe the story was about a group of runner that had to break into a TV station and upload a false news report.
Does anyone have a link to that thread? I've tried doing searches for it and I can't seem to find it.
Thanks in advanced,
Ryan

As the person that wrote it, I would like to point out that I made a pretty darn big "goof" in the "Search" IC section. (in addition to the several minor flaws pointed out in the posts below it)
As I have it written, Search rolls (Rating + Track program) vs. (10 + Stealth) as an extended test. That's completely false... it *should* be (Rating + Track - Stealth) vs. 10 as an extended test. It averages out to about the same if it takes three rolls (which I think is how many the IC gets in the story) but as far as game mechanics, I goofed.
I'm glad my story seems to be helpful (judging from requests), even if a touch error-ridden

Algebra? You mean the native language of the min-maxer?

Thanks for the update Feshy.
I'm actually going to print it up, if you don't mind, so I can use it for a handy reference while I GM my groups first Shadowrun game.
The core rules are helpful and all, but there is not substitute for a a good old fashion tutorial that is full of examples of the various tasks a hacker may undertake.
Thanks again.

I'm going to make sure that if I ever get around to running an SR game again that any hackers read this.
After reading through it, I think it would be interesting to go through the "adventure" from the perspective of one or more of the other characters. Since there are precious few examples in the book for anything, it would be fun to see exactly how things like negotiation, and the other legwork things happen, especially for new players....

The lack of example text in the book was the whole reason I wrote that bit -- I needed a reference too!
Feel free to print it out or distribute it or whatever if it helps. But I do recommend reading the discussion after it for a few additional hints and a few things that I messed up. I always meant to get around to revising it to take into account the mistakes, but I haven't quite gotten around to it yet.
