Am I misunderstanding, or is the following scenario possible?
You've got a big troll with lots of armor, a big physical track, and a small physical track. He's been shot many times, but because of his armor it's all been converted to stun. His stun track is one box from full. His physical track is empty. If he gets shot again, it will undoubtedly be stun, because he has so much armor. Due to his armor, he may soak much of it, but even one box of damage will finish him. He will be unconscious and at the mercy of his enemies, who have no mercy. So he strips off his armor. Now, if he gets shot, it will definitely be physical damage. More boxes than he would've taken from stun, but hey, at least he'll still be up and functioning.
Right?
note: I just want to say, I am aware that extreme cases always mess up the rules, and this is definitely an extreme case. But if the extreme character is made (which doesn't strike me as so unlikely) then the situation becomes much more likely (for that character).
Of course, SR3 also had the situation where, after a melee, a character could be incapacitated by a gentle slap but could keep going after being shot several more times, but it never behooved the character to remove armor!

well, some armor is not easy to take off on the get go. a vest is one thing, a battle-ready armor (aka BRA) takes a little longer. If the troll is not in a serious situation, he could do something that stupid. Or.....rest!

PHysical damage takes days, it's a semi-permanent penalty while the stun is temporary. A smartass player could definitely do it - and thus deserves every point of damage those guns do to him now that he doens't have body armor dice to soak it all up.
You did remember that armor adds to your Damage resistance roll, right?

I am not really experienced with this, but without armor physical damage accumulates real fast... so this can work, but don't count on it .

The troll would still be much better of putting on a slap patch. Faster than taking of his armor, and he gets to keep the armor rating and loose his damage modifiers all at the same time.

Stun can sure be devestating if you let yourself fall asleep, but as long as you bring your drugs, itīs nothing to worry about.

If his body is high enough to he can layer armor: armor jacket over armored vest for example. That way his armor drops enough to convert to physical, but he still keeps extra dice.
I'd just have the goons switch to stick-n-shock when he does this . . .

I don't follow, Clyde.

If a character is wearing more than one piece of armor at a time, only the highest value (for either Ballistic or Impact) applies. |
Or do you mean that he'd shrug off his jacket and keep his vest on, with the intention of reducing his Ballistic rating but not losing it completely?

slap patches - a stim patch won't keep you awake, all they do is remove the penalties. You'll still pass out when your stun monitor is full; a stim patch does NOT heal stun damage.

Long haul then? Maybe a pain editor?

long haul stops you from needing to sleep your 8 hours every 24. Pain editor also removed penalties. Neiher keep you up when your stun montitor is full.
All you can do is heal those boxes, or increasing your will (thus getting more boxes). AFAIK healing spells now heal stun, not sure offhand about first aid. Adding more Will from drugs or whatever is probably the best bet

First Aid will help you out. Unlike previous editions, first aid can be used to treat stun wounds.
It only takes a few rounds and you can heal up to you first aid skill rating. Of course, a medkit can do the job for you if you have no skill at all. All the details are on page 242.
Rather than dumping armour, that Troll should just be nice to his friendly medic.

Read the pain editor again...It will keep you awake when stun hits its max.

In 3rd, stim patches healed stun...temporarily - when the stim wore off, the damage came back, along with the additional stun damage from the stim itself.
In 4th, they just bump the penalty down by (rating) boxes of stun damage (i.e. for a rating 3 stim patch you would ignore 3 boxes of stun damage for penalty calculations) for (rating x 10) minutes - after which you get one more box of stun damage.

Yeah, a full borg character with butt-loads of armor and a pain editor would be able to soak a ton of damage....Just would only be able to make one initive pass, and other lame things like that....
And if your really twinking things out, you could forgo the stats the cyber would replace and be able to buy up willpower to 6, then with the editor on you get 7, so 4 more stun boxes right there, you could easily (if your body was at least 7, easy as a borg) get 30 boxes total of damage soaking potential....
