I've been told my usual shaman character-whom most people joke that I'm Anita blake- reminds several people more of tom Baker's Dr. Who- only small, female and armed.

....the only truly rip off character I made was Margo Grande who was two parts Indana Jones (she was originally a scholar of Egyptology at Cambridge) and one part Laura Croft (The knockout adventuring heiress and archeologst).
Granted, most, if not all, of my other characters have "qualities" of existing ones from books, film, and even RL, but were not blatent carbon copies. With all that has been put out there for the last several centuries, it is hard to avoid influences. For example, Leela (who I regard as one of my more "original" concepts), had the talent for using explosives based on the Character "Ace" from Dr Who and the basic look and candor of Leelu from The 5th Element. Her personality and outlook however were products of the backstory I had written which with her phenomenal talent in music combined these other elemnts in a very unusual way.
I don't think that any character can be totally 100% original. We all draw from the world around us, be it RL and/or prevous works of fiction whether by conscious effort or not. It is in how these various elements are arranged, combined, and expanded upon is what makes a character unique.
Tolkien once wrote an essay ones on story telling. It is a fascinating read and the basis for the way I approach character and scenario development.

Alien Legion (Ok, I cheated

)
The first character I made for D&D is a bard named Thom Merrilin (Wheel of Time) although he is a way younger version. I even rip him off for my username, lol! My hubbie's halfling rogue is based loosely on Tasselhoff Burfoot (sp?) from Dragonlance. Just the mischievious part of his nature though, she has more self control.

Characters I've played (and how they died):
Alucard, vampire from the Castlevania series (Rolled badly while trying to disarm C4)
Rayne, from BloodRayne (All ones with monofilament swords)
Vash the Stampede (Sold as a sex slave to a male troll by a Mafia Don)
Arthur Dent (Tripped over his bathrobe, fell out a shot-out window, and plummeted 25 stories to his death)
Ford Prefect (Was accidentally run over by the team rigger in the first game when the rigger rolled all ones on a driving test)
Medusa (Cast a ranged version of Death Touch while looking at a mirror)
Hercules (Lost a game of missile tag with a group of Lone Star's finest)
Storm (Found out the hard way that, yes, Lofwyr really is a dragon and him turning into one from humanoid form wasn't an illusion)
Zaphod Beeblebrox (Sat on by a dragon as part of a GM hint)
Robocop (Struck nine times by lightning)
Hannibal Lecter (Eaten by devil rats)
Arthur Pendragon (Tried jumping onto the back of a dragon from a helicopter and missed)
Snow White (Shot by her own drones after failing to keep a competing rigger from hacking them)

Was he big, black, and carried a nine-iron? Did he like to duct-tape people up and get "prison friendly" with them?

I've played a rigger with the mannerisms and look of the T-1000 from Terminator 2.
I've played with:
Kolchak, the night stalker
The guy from equilibrium
The mage from Bastard!!
But luckily, I've never had to play with a wolverine, or a Kenshin

Oh, man, my friends will absolutely hate me.
I love that movie. I have to translate whenever I watch it with folks.
"What the hell did he just say?" "It's not for me, it's for me ma." "Oooooh."
