One think I liked about SR 4 is that they no longer had multiple versions of enhanced reflexes/st/body/etc. Heck, who got any spell but the highest version? So now, Enhanced X spells give a bonus based on successes.
But they sill have Invisibility/Improved Invisiblity, and a slew of other mental/camera type illusion spells. How broken would it be to merge those spells together?
Like maybe the threshold for Cameras etc is, uh, 3. So if you roll 5 successes on your invisibilty spell, a person needs to resist the 5 sucesses, but somone on a security camarea vs the 2 net sucesses that you got. Same for the other illusion type spells.

So, would you have it be a Physical Spell that only affected living minds at low levels of success? Or a Mana Spell that could affect non-living cameras at high levels of success?
The reason they're seperate spells is rooted in how spells work and are categorized. Merging them would require rewriting the magic chapter from the ground up.

hmm. Maybe it's mana/normal spell, and if you want to you, can "burn" X successes to make it into a physical one. LIke in my example, you can decide as you cast (after you roll) if you wnat to have Invisibility (a mana spell) with 5 successes, or Impoved Invisibility (a physical spell) with 3.
with combat spells, Mana and physical spells are resited with Will or Body, so there is a reason to have both.
Hmm, I just notieced that Mana illusions are resited by WP, and physical ones by Intuition. hm. Well, with combat spells, you can usually guess if someone has WP or body higher. Use mana spells on the troll, physical spells on the elf mage. I think it's less likely someone is gong to think, "I'll cast invisibility instead of improved invisiabilty, because that guy probably has a lower WP that intuition"
