Full Version: Magic Traditions for a newbie player

Hey there, I'm a relative newbie to SR, and 4th is my first edition. I like it a lot and I'm about to start running my campaign shortly. I've got three players - they'll be playing an ork weapons specialist, a human B&E expert, and an elf Face.

Now, the elf is also a magician, and the player has decided to model him as a mentalist - that is, most of his spells will be of a mind-influencing sort. He's read through both of the magic traditions that come with the game (Hermetic and Shamanic), but neither one of them really fit with his concept.

He's a flashy, charismatic fellow, and his tradition would probably be centered more around charisma than logic (like Heremtics) or intuition (like Shamans). So, I was wondering if any of you guys have created something along those lines, or if there are any good resources on the web for that stuff or anything?

TIA!

The basic Shamanic path out of the basic book is Charisma-based.

Other traditions which are likely Charisma dependent include:

Vodoun (Possession Tradition)
Baptist Ecstatics (Possession Tradition)
Demonology
Cornish Bardicism

There really isn't much of a call for new Charisma traditions, because the biggest tradition in the game is already Charisma primary.

My current character was created as a Psionicist (using Intuition as his Drain attribute). I did it because I wanted Thought Forms, but decided to fold to the general consensus that Hosue Rules are bad! nyahnyah.gif

House rules?! The book *encourages* making new Traditions. Bah. biggrin.gif

But I was completely on the wrong track, actually. Yes, there is already a Charisma based Tradition and I had myself worked around backwards. For whatever reason, I had the Shamanic Tradition wrong in my head. Duh... What I really wanted was an Intuition based Tradition. I took a look at the Psionicist Tradition that someone posted here a while back and that'll probably work for me with a bit of tweaking.
