So, do weapon foci count to focus addiction in 2nd and 3rd edition? Without books, and can't remember.
Thanks all!

Well, there's nothing in either 3rd Ed, or MitS that says they're exempt from that, but then again they aren't used in the same way that a sustaining, or power focus is. Has this been something that's come up in debate before?

You are spending Karma to bond the focus, so I still say Yes.

I think he just said no as an ironic commentary on all of the recurring "yes" variations.
But he forgot to use the
smiley.
How are we supposed to know someone is being sarcastic, if they don't label it for us?

The rule is also optional, it's just for controling power mongering Mages.

Yes, however I veiw it as a nessisary rule. If there is no focus addiction, and grounding is gone, what is the downside to useing an uber focus of doom?

1. Karma cost
2. Monetary cost
If you can pay the costs, you'll be weaker in other areas, because you didn't spend it on them.

Wards? The fact that you light up like times square in the astral? Gremlins?

I concur. I can see little point in penalising a mage for having uber-foci that he has earned and paid the cost for. If you must place restrictions on the player's toys, then just have the smart enemies take called shots against his foci until he stops abusing them.

And don't forget that even though grounding is gone, they can still be blown up by an astral Manabolt.

Can they be masked?

You can mask a total Force in foci equal to your initiate grade.

1. All of the attention you are going to attract.
2. The difficulty in masking them.
3. Cost / difficulty in getting/making them
4. and of course losing them.
if the group is caught, any opposing mage will lock the thing away. Now your mage will be weaker than the generic mage that spent the karma on magic instead.
