Well i found this site a little late forgive me I haven't been into Shadowrun that long. Had i known this jewel of a site existed I don't think i woulda made my own character generator, but i did so there ya go.
It has its own strengths (built in error checking so you don't have to know build rules) and weakness .
Anyways here it is.
revisions:
.006 character load/save - built in templates from all the characters in the book
Character Generatoralso included is a nice set of character sheets that can be downloaded here seperately. Uses the Original character sheets included in manual as a base. These character sheets use the same graphics and style.
There are two versions of character sheets short and long.
The long is basically like the the old Character Dossier.
Character Sheetsfeedback welcome

They look good after a first glance, but I have to ask.
On the character sheet what do the numbers after the skill group names represent?

the numbers after the skill group ie:
(Mechanic 4) means there are 4 associated skills in that group.
so if you new you know how many to look for

Did not have time to test the generator yet, only saw that it involves a nice list of knowledge skills
Took a peak at the character sheet however and this one looks realy nice at first glance!
Thanks for both

long - 9 pages and is more like the dossier
short - 4 pages
updated the generator a tad as well, fixed a bug and added more character information.

I like what I have sofar a load screen would be great
Aku

Well, consider, that, without a load an inventory would be less useful until the load gets done, also, i would suspect that the load screen would be easier.

How do you uninstall?
Jrayjoker
Feb 2 2006, 03:25 PM
To uninstall go to your Windows control panel and Add/Remove Programs. It should be on the list. Just follow the simple instructions and viola!
it doesnt look like it's calculating the stun track correctly. I'm making a dwarf with a will of 5, so it should be 8+(5/2) which is rounded to 3, so it should be 11 boxes, but its only showing it at 10, i think it's rounding down, not up.

Stun is based off of will...not bod
Physical is based off of bod...
errr, yea, thatsd what i meant, sorry
correcting what i said, but it's still problematic in the gen.

Actualy yeah I saw the problem myself with a human technomancer with will 5.
I'm not sure, I haven't done enough research/testing cause the program will not work at all on my laptop 'can not create activeX object' or whatnot, but it might be a issue rounding up?

I'm afraid not.
1024 x 768 is the minimum resolution.
unless of course you have a virtual desktop program that allows you to scroll around the screen.

Is this a finished product or are you releasing newer versions?
I'm wondering if gear will be making an appearance. I would also like to add this is the best SR4 generator I have seen to date.

1st thank you
second i had started work on a full char suite
but I personally thought that
Daeganns's was better and already had karma items and powers and spells with the exception that..
Mine does however have the build point checking system to cross references your choices with the rules to make sure your character is "legal"
so as of now the answer is: no i do not plan to expand the character generator
if someone finds a bug or has something easy they want put in i will certianly fix/do that.
of course if a thousand people cry out for salvation i might be persuaded to finish the suite.
short term i am working on:
updating the character sheets to accept typing input from word or adobe
making a gm combat sheet for easy combat referencing
debating on making a gm screen
i have made a sr3 to sr4 npc character converter in excel if anyone is interested
thanks for the wiz feedback

aww, that hurts
i really like the layout of the program, and was really hoping that it would make it to "full feature" with gear and everything at some point. I dont like having to switch ti excel to calculate my gear and everything.

This may have already been solved but I thought I'd report it:
When I went to change the directory where it was intending to save the files from the program when I was installing it wouldn't let me just designate them to C:\Program Files. It just sort of froze up.

Ismo,
Even after running the setup file I am still getting error messages. I tried to load the program anyway and it started but it's like some files are misisng. Do you have a troubleshooting section that I missed?

sorry no
i used standard microsoft active x components.
I used the microsoft deployment package suite that came with vb6.
i have read that there is problems with the Micro$oft deployment software (big suprise huh?).
out of curiosity what error messages are you getting?
do by chance do you use other accounts other than administrator? (just a thought)

The error message that I get is as follows:
QUOTE (Error Message") |
Setup can not continue because some system files are out of date on your system. Click OK if you would like setup to update these files for you now. You will need to restart Windows before you can run setup again. Click cancel to exit setup without updating system files.
|
However, when I click OK, reboot and try again I get the same message.
Does that help any?

Yes we all love Microsoft. Oh, look it's time to bow down to the new update ...
The IT guys at work and I have fun about once a week poking fun at MS.
Ok, I'll look into what I can get in the way of patches. In the meantime, I will play around with making my own charater generator since I am taking an Excel course.

i'll do you one better
this link has the all the support files look at the setup.lst file for a listing of where the setup program puts files.
All Support Filesthis link has all the source code. if someone wants to pickup development thats cool just follow these simple rules.
1) document all changes
2) include support directions
3) start a new thread dedicated to that development as well as independent hosting
4) i get credit for original work
5) redo the splash screen and help to indicate that this is "Joe's Modification" of SR4_CGE
All Souce Code Filesthis program was written in VB6
thanks

Thanks for this.
I'm going to start playing around with what you've already done, and try and add gear and the like to it. If I do get something going I'll start a new thread for it then.
Enjoy

There is a bug in the Skill Tab; when unapplying Aptitude, it doesn't remove the Skill Level of 7, nor does it remove the choice of 7. Additionally, taking Aptitude, then removing it, and then adding it again adds more 7s to the choice of Skill Level.

Found another bug.
Specialisations to Knowledge skills are being calculated at 2 BP each, instead of the 1 BP they are meant to be.

Not so much a bug as a nit... an inconsistency with the rulebook.
You have Agility listed before Body. Body is first in the book.
