An injectible hormone makes you less hungry. This may just put nutrition mages out of business.

Except that with magic, you can survive while eating nothing. Ever.

a thousand years ago or so the chinese discovered a natural hormone that increased muscle growth, unfortunately when taken in high doses over extended periods it causes the organ that produces it to fail. Hopefully this isnt true of oxyntomodulin or for the diet mages hopefully it is.

Between the cost of mahing a mage recast fast and nutrition on you every week or so and the cost of oxyntomodulin shots and concentrated vitamins every day, the oxyntomodulin is more viable for most people.

Those with orihalcum-plated jewl-encrusted datajacks will probably go with the mage just for the prestige.
Oracle
Well, that is no problem if you are able to cast fast and nutrition yourself, is it?
ragingonanist
just how expensive is having someone cast a spell? unless my math is wrong casting fast at force 6 would have a drain of 2M and would last 3 days assuming 1 success. That I would say is not a substantial burden to cast several times a day. If cast by a resident mage at a facility be he there for research security or utility then the logistics of getting together with a mage for this wouldnt be that hard. as to nutrition to lose weight I wouldnt interpret the nutrition spell to allow weight loss while on it and without other food weight gain either.

Except you forget the astonishingly low number of mages in the general population (or even the corporate population) and the simple fact that, if given the choice between putting arcane and mystical powers to work on exploring the outer reaches of unknown universes, reattaching limbs and healing deadly diseases, or preventing Bob, Junior Executive from having to take a break for lunch, the lattermost will probably *NOT* be chosen in most case.
ragingonanist
I was assuming magic was common enough that some mages would moonlight in less exciting tasks. I am fully aware that the portion of the population that can cast spells is small enough to keep the numbers small even in absolutes. my proposal was not to be seen as a full time occupation rather as something to do while on lunch break from exploring theouter reaches of unknown universes.

The cost benefit really isn't there. Now if Bob was CEO or VP of something like of North American sales, then I can see a mage doing it as a favor. But it's really easier to just buy those darn shots and inject/ingest them. Cost wise, they'll be cheap and doesn't take much time.

It'll be similar to a lawyer (who charges around 250 an hour and that's on the cheap side, I know of higher rates and many of them have to increment their day in 6 minute intervals which they have to account for in what they do for billing) to be sorting out papers and stapling for a case... then said lawyer finally realizing it's better to call the clerk/secretary to do it since they only cost about 25 an hour) since it'll save the firm/client money. Yes, this happened in real life.

I know the analogy isn't the best, but for cost basis it's much cheaper to do the mundane way then it is to get a mage to do it. And also due to the rarity and amount of training needed, those mages charging per hour (especially the good ones) I imagine will be very high.

As for moonlighting by the mages, well, who knows, it's your game, it's up to you to decide.

This use of a wage mage would be understandable if he was otherwise a magical healer, and he was doing this rather than using a feeding tube. Or heck, even if all a mage's job was in a hospital was to cast this stuff.

It sounds pretty thin as an occupation in and of itself though, at least to me. You probably won't see a mage being wasted in this way in one of my games. (The first maybe, but not a guy that's "just" a nutrition mage.)

That service would be worth a LOT more than 2 nuyen.gif per day.
nezumi
That said, I also expect 2,000 people a day is a little... unlikely. Assuming each one ONLY takes two minutes, you're capped at about 250 for an 8 hour day, and that's not including the limits drain will impose.
Aku
you could always make an AoE version of the spell silly.gif

...7 days a week...

Does it destroy the need for nutrition, or does the spell only dull your stomach?

Rtfm. There's a spell for each, plus some more to do with food.
Kremlin KOA
each casting for an optimized starting char will last about 7 days
if they return every 5 days then I only need to do 400
and they take less than a minute each

What's Rtfm? And why does Dragons of the Sixth World talk about dragons not being sustainable under the current ecosystem if they don't really need to eat?
