Why on earth are diskettes strkingly similair to 1.44mb diskettes or at the very best zip disks begin shown. Surely the optical chip is smaller than that.

I certainly hope it's deliberate, like it's some rare collectors item or some piece of pre-1st crash datum that is still hot and sought aftger, with part of the run involving finding the disk and retrieving it and the other is getting a device that can read the medium and interface with modern gear.

On the original Star Trek, they wanted salt & pepper shakers for the mess hall tables. So, they went out and got the weirest, most futuristic S&P shakers they could get their hands on. They put them on the table, and realized that nobody would have any idea what they were. So people could recognize the S&P shakers as S&P shakers they went and got normal shakers, and the weirdos they bought got morphed into McCoy's medical equipment (that's right, what McCoy is really doing is adding salt to taste).

If they showed a data chip it would probably be the size of a fingernail and nobody would see it. Show it as a disk, and everybody know what it is. Granted,by 2070 it's probably a 40-TB disk, but it gets the idea across.

that makes sense. Besides, there's only so many ways an optic disc can look. And after a while, miniturization gets to be a bit ridiculous. Like the cell phones now-a-days. Yeah, they could b esmaller, but hten you'd cough and accidentally swallow it. Yeah, the disc could be smaller, but after a certain point,, it makes more sense to just improve the tech to cram more in, and leave the size the same. That way you don't have to have everyone change out their drivers. CD-rom's for example.

From here:

"On The Run
Will Your First Run Be Your Last?

This introductory adventure for Shadowrun, Fourth Edition sends the players in pursuit of an archaic media chip with priceless contents, mixing them up with a media legend’s ancient history. This adventure is seeded with helpful advice to immediately acquaint new gamemasters with running Shadowrun and also includes a number of tips that veteran gamemasters will find useful. It is also intentionally designed to familiarize gamemasters and players with various key aspects of the Shadowrun universe. Spoiler:
The run is about a disc of black mail material exposing the sordid love life of 'actor' Burt Reynolds. Run at your own risk.
Grinder
Will Chuck Norris make a guest appareance?
SL James
Ancient is a relative term. The neat image with the reflection in the disc says something like Carrion Sessions '45 on it.
Ophis
Carrion Sessions?

That rings a bell, somewhere in my head.

To the Ancient History symbol.
Damn can't find the URL.
Ancient History
Ha ha. It's a reference to one of the early SR modules.
Lazerface
Actually, if you notice how the disk is inside a slipcover in one pic and inside something else in the next. I think it looks to be more like a minidisk. Old Gamecube game maybe?

I like that you put "actor" in quotes.
Ophis
AH found my own answer the writing on the disk is

"Carrion Sessions '48
JB
(then I think) for enlightenment
seek an absent friend"

how much of a reference to the old adventure is this?
Ancient History
Old players may get misty eyed with fond remembrance. New players can enjoy it fresh. It's not exactly the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil, you understand.

Yeah--no knowledge of any prior SR history is required for this adventure, but longtime players will likely encounter a few bits of nostalgia. smile.gif

Spoiler - or not

Isnt' Jet Black a vampire now? It would be cool if he was involved in this run somehow.

SL James
Yes, he is a vampire.

What was the name of that run with the band the runners are .. .hell I forget what they were even doing. All I remember was that it has Jetblack in it, the Johnson double corsses you, some record exec gets a Black IC chip in his deck, and the feds show up. I used to have that one and loved it, but have no clue what happened to it. The Stage Before or something?

Brahm: 'sordid love life' with toupes? eeewwwwwwwwww
