Gretik
This is the OOC thread for the manchester shadowrun game, fairly obviously - it's 4th edition and here are the runners:

Ivan - Noia.
Scarlet - Thanee.
Calico - Ophis.
Doc. Crow - BlackHat.
Jason - Wolfen.
Merrick - Veskrashen.

Everything looks good so far!

Just some basic guidelines to keep things running smoothly, the ooc thread is for anything outside of the game

In the IC thread, we should see your character’s description of his or her actions and speech, interaction with other players in-game, my in-game notes to your character, and my posts of what happens during the game session.

It'd be a big hand if you could make character and npc names bold in the main threads, as well as double check spelling and grammar so as not to have posts flooded with edits nyahnyah.gif

Please, don’t post a description of action that you don’t control and I will do the same for you. I will attempt not to post any PC actions unless you approve or they are implied from earlier actions.

If in doubt, use the OOC thread to ask whether something is ok to post or not.

For dice rolls, place at the top a description of the dice pool and modifiers, list how the dice are rolled and note the number of total hits - follow this if a glitch occured with that information. Check when edge is used and note which are edge dice!
Ophis
Dice rolls in the OOC or IC thread boss? I presume OOC.
I will prep up a description for Calico.
Thanee
Err... how do we do dice rolls, anyways? Just roll them ourself and post them here (seems to be like that in the other games, as far as I can see)? Use an online dice roller and link to it? Anything else?

Bye
Thanee
Ophis
I always guessed that we roll them at home and post, or use an SR specific diceroller.
Gretik
Dice rolls in ooc, i should say - you can use either real dice or a computer program, I have faith in players nyahnyah.gif
Thanee
Hey Gretik!

Could you edit the first post here and change the Post Icon from [ Use None ] to OOC?

That would be great (makes it easier to find the thread). Thanks! smile.gif

Thanee
Gretik
Handy that, thanks for pointing that out nyahnyah.gif

Noia and I are finishing up with his backstory and the last sections of working out how the party would have met him, he'll post on here later today with what he would have told the party.

Could you guys put up the party friendly description of your characters, also. You guys should have been working together for a few weeks at least, though possibly one of you could be an extremely new face.
Thanee
Sure, no problem. Will do that soon.

Thanee
Ophis
Have physical description ready, will sort out any early impressions bit too.
They may be a bit on the long side, I like stupid levels of detail.
Veskrashen
I'll post a party friendly physical description and areas of expertise sometime later this afternoon.
Gretik
Sounds good, long on detail is fine since people can always skim read if they are very lazy biggrin.gif
BlackHat
Note: Although I assumed we'd all be meeting at the start of the game - I'm up for hte idea of us having worked together for a few weeks.

Description:

"Doctor Crow," as he is known on the streets, is one of Manchster's least-known and highest-quality street-docs. Unlike most, he has the money to keep his image up. He's not the kind of doc you find cleaning up bullet-wounds with greasy rags in a garage somewhere. He is able ot get his hands on the highest quality (albiet, sometimes "experimental") medical tools and sterile environments, and medicine.

He dresses in suits, when out and about, or clean surgical gear when doing his work. He drives nice cars - most recently seen in a black luxury sedan (although he woudl never take this on a job). Also unlike most street-docs, it becomes quite clear after talking to him for any length of time about his work that he is an educated man who knows as much about biotechnology as many legitimate doctors.

He makes (safe)house-calls, but has also been known to help arrange his patients with appointments in a privately owned grey-clinic - when they require more intensive care. Although a number of his patients are Shadowrunners, the majority are SINless, down-on-their-luck, or just those who want to avoid certain medical proceedures showing up on their records.

Note to group:
If any of you have had cyberware installed in the last couple of years, It would be fine with me if you wanted to have had Dr. Crow be the guy who installed it in you - it might help build some ties within the group (maybe you will then recruit him for this upcoming job). Same goes if any of you would have had any cosmetic surgery, like having a "new face" installed.

Unfortunatly, the rules don't specify what amount of hte price of cyberware covers paying a doc to put it in you (AFAIK), so there's really no discount to having a PC do it. smile.gif But it'd be fun!
Noia
Ivan doesn’t talk about himself very often, in fact, not at all as far as anyone can remember. You don't know his last name, he’s known only as Ivan. He does however have knack for speaking about things he did in Russia ("This one time, home in Russia, we killed a man using a banana, two sticks of bubble gum and a small hamster"). He tends to be very quiet but has a certain charm about him.

Ivan stands at 6'10", has short blond hair done in a slightly spiky way, brilliant blue eyes that for some reason seem quite intimidating, and some fashionable stubble.
He wears a custom-tailored brown suit.

EDIT:
We met up together through a fixer for a run, the run went a bit south which is how we met up with Dr.Crow, who made a very professional impression.
(( I don't know if you guys had any other plans for how we met up, some of you could have known each other and have recommended each other for the run when it was being set up. ))

Calico is new to the Manchester Shadows, having been around for about a month. She has an easy goig and very sensual nature, though she is quite vain and notably bad in combat. She is however an excellent spirit summoner, a compotent support spellcaster and thoroughly pleasent company. Her prefered methods are subtle, if violence breaks out she hides and lets her spirits do the work.

Calico is about 5’ 11” tall but her stiletto heels make her look taller. She is has a beautiful willowy figure and just enough curves to not look like a stick.

Her hair falls in a smooth flow over her shoulder, as it catches the light you notice thin blonde and dark streaks running through its deep, almost blood red hue. Her face is delicate in the manner typical of elven beauty. Her lips are full for her metatype though and coated in deep red lip-gloss to match her hair a silver ring loops around the centre of her lower lip. Delicate silver rings also decorate her ears where they pop out from beneath her hair. Her eyes scan the room, is she looking out for threats or her next conquest? They flash green in the light and you swear her pupils are slit. Dark kohl surrounds them and her eye lids are delicately shadowed. Silver jewellery glints on her hands and her nails like her lips match the blood red of her hair.

She wears a beat up black leather biker’s jacket and spray on PVC jeans. The jacket is open and you can glimpse her torso which is mostly naked apart from a PVC bra supports her assets in a fairly unsubtle manner. As you admire her body you notice something odd. It looks like a small kitten with very mucky paws has walked round her hips and looped around her navel, maybe it wanted to view the gem that fills it from all angles.

When she takes off the jacket you can see a bed of roses painted onto her upper left arm, so well executed they look real. Her other arm is decorated by a simple black Ankh rendered in linework. As she turns away from you, you see her back. Her shoulder blades are decorated with an intricate image of a woman kneeling, her arms spread with wings stretched out beneath them (any hits on a knowledge mythology/Egypt etc role will recognise a winged Isis. The kitten appears to have done a lap looping at the base of her spine round a circular Celtic knot design.

She moves in a manner that is full of confidence, her poise and bearing are perfect. It’s almost as if she is she is walking down a catwalk.

When she speaks her accent is impeccable upper class Londoner (think Kiera Knightley), a flash of sliver on her tongue reveals another piercing.

For Blackhat and Gretik

Okay there we go don't say I didn't warn you. wink.gif

Scarlet is an entirely new face in the shadows of Manchester. She has no history to speak of and there is only little known about her on the streets, and she does not like to talk about it either. When she speaks, it quickly becomes apparant, that english is not her native language, even though she speaks very fluently. She has a clear and articulate pronounciation, like someone who is using linguasoft or has used tutorsoft for training.

Scarlet is an elven woman in her late twenties. She is of average height (1.72m or 5’ 8”) and has a lithe and slender build. Her shoulder-length hair is bleached blonde, almost white, and her eyes are emerald green. Although she might not look like a supermodel, most would find her attractive. Scarlet is extremely fast and agile, clearly cybernetically enhanced, to a level that your average street thug couldn't afford. She has keen eyes and seems to notice a lot of detail, likely with some modifications as well, although there is no visible sign for an eye replacement, they look perfectly natural. Scarlet also has a datajack, which is usually hidden beneath her hair. Her manners are very professional, while her equipment is pretty basic; everything you need, but nothing fancy. Even her commlink is just a standard model. Besides being a fairly good shot with her pistols, Scarlet is mostly a computer and electronics specialist. She is a respectable hacker and gets things done in the matrix and she knows a lot about various security systems and how to get past them. Scarlet usually wears black biking leathers, which tightly fit her figure, and a loose-fitting leather jacket on top. Most of her equipment is kept in various small pockets around her belt and inside her jacket.
Wolfen
A late addition to the team Ivan was on when they met Dr Crow, Jason was referred to them as magical backup by their fixer for the job. Probably the least professional team member he has drifted in and out of the fringes of Manchester's shadows for a few years, never commiting himself to a career in the shadows but always drifting back eventually. He's worked on and off for a few low-ranked fixers from various gangs and crime syndicates, he's made a minor rep for himself in information gathering and tracking down lost items and people. Generally he has a good reputation for keeping to his word, though he's known to have had a drinking problem in the past and has been banned from half a dozen pubs and bars around the city.

He appears to be in his early to mid twenties, scuffily dressed in jeans, trainers and a battered leather jacket most of the time. His dark, mid length hair is usually loose and often seems to be in need of a comb. His speech often gives away the fact that he has had a good education, and begs the question 'how did you end up here?'. So far, he's avoided answering that.

Oh, and he doesn't mess with that summoning stuff. You can't pay him enough for that.
Ophis
With what everyone has said, I probably knew some team members from around the shadows, most likely Jason best. I will have turned up about the same time as Dr Crow, and have shown an excellent skill at people management, and a lot of nerve with spirits.
Veskrashen
Merrick has been around a year or two, mostly doing independent work and smaller contracts; he doesn't have a lot of large team experience from what you've heard. His specialty is in physical penetration and technical solutions, along with surveillance and observation work.

Physically, he's a black man of medium height and build, dreadlocks and a light beard, in his late 20s or early 30s. He generally wears casual clothes, though he has been known to wear business attire if the situation required it. Not given to a lot of socializing, he tends to be distracted by the numerous drone input he monitors on a near-constant basis.
Ophis
Hey guys, any sign of a start yet?
Everything has been quiet for a while and I'm just looking for an update.
Thanee
Well, I'm here and ready. smile.gif

Sorry, things at university got a little over the top for a day or two and then oblivion came out. I'm digging my way back out of that and will be posting the start of the game in a few minutes (however long it takes me to write it).
Ophis
Cool, off to the IC thread I go...

You really should not wait for everyone in such situations (altho, maybe now, since it's the very beginning, it makes sense for everyone to have posted at least once before continuing).

In general, I would just assume anyone to tag along, tho, if they do not post something within a day or so, or there really isn't anything to say other than 'XXX tags along' (just using more elaborate words wink.gif).

Thanee
Gretik
Normally i wouldn't but i'd like to get a bit from everyone in here since its the beginning.

Yeah, that makes sense. smile.gif

You are an elf...
Veskrashen
To clarify drone positioning:

The surveillance blimp be overhead to provide overwatch; the two iBalls will be across the street (or alley) to cover street level on each side of the building. Merrick will be running augmented reality with his internal commlink, set to hidden mode.

Blimp's rifle is loaded with regular ammo; iBalls have CS charges instead of the regular smoke.

I assume you where after a spoiler tag?
hope so coz thats what you got smile.gif
Ophis
OOOH! I couldn't read most of those. I checked the last one as Calico has spent sometime swanning around Europe. I'm having her just assume he is from that rough area.
Veskrashen
Gretik:

Merrick steps back far enought to reestablish links with his drones. I'll use hearing amplification with noise filter to remain involved in negotiations in Meatspace, but definitely will be paying more attention to the drone inputs via AR now.
Veskrashen
Oh, and how do you use a spoiler tag, btw?
Ophis
Type without the obvious spaces

[SPOI LER] at the start and [/SPOIL ER] at the end

yep that works.

Oh sorry about the chairs thing, I just always have chairs at meets in my games...

Edit to save post space...

Perception(visual test)
Dice pool 7= 4(Int)+2(per skill)+3(Visual enhance)-2(heavy steam with lowlight) posibly with +3 from actively looking

1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (if active look counts add 1, 6, 6) = 2 hits(4 if active applies)

Judge Intentions (resisted by cha+con)
Dicepool 9=7(Cha)+4(Per)-2(steam as above)

2, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6 = 5 hits!!!!

wow what a waste of a great roll...

Just so you know, Jammes work on Ultra-sound that causes resonance in non-tissue audio perceptive devices....ie....microphones. Theres not really anything you can do about it unfortunatly. Although, its not that important either.

As for the drones....I would assume they just remained in some sort of idle-mode where you left them. Lets just hope nothing happens to them.
Veskrashen
Which is why I'm stepping back out of the jamming zone; with ECCM 5 and Signal 5 I should be able to avoid the effects of it unless he's got a massively powered jammer. I suspect that it's more likely WiFi blocking wallpaper or the like.
Noia
not following us in then? >:D
Veskrashen
Oh, I'll keep you in visual and use amped hearing to follow things, never fear. But losing track of what's going on outside and in the surrounding areas is just not an option for Merrick. The people who need to handle the negotiation are already there doing so, his job is to watch our collective asses.

Especially since GMs seem to have some kind of fetish involving ambushing PCs when they're meeting up with someone critical.
Veskrashen

Wouldn't that mean that anyone using cybernetic hearing at all be totally hosed and unable to hear anything? Otherwise, if my cyber ears can accept an input and make sense of it for me to follow the conversation, it can record it just fine. If not, then I can't hear anything but static anyway, and wouldn't be able to follow the conversation at all - prompting me to ask that it be shut off. Which would let me record the conversation, once again.
Veskrashen
Actually that brings up another thing.

Once Merrick establishes links back to his drones, he then attempts to establish comms via comlink with Scarlet. If it's just WiFi wallpaper, this should be easy. If Merrick is unable to establish comms with Scarlett or reestablish contact with his drones, he'll try and figure out what is actually happening to see if he can figure out a way around it.

[ Spoiler ]

Gretik
Sorry real life said no for a while nyahnyah.gif Back and posting.
Gretik
Veskrashen, people using cyber ears are not hosed, they get a mild headache - I was already asked this by Thanee and I didn't think to put it up here.

The block on recording is weird and something you aren't entirely sure how to block, a signal out of normal auditory range that is playing havoc with your gear. Plus you weren't the one recording? nyahnyah.gif
Thanee
Yep, would be a bit weird, if something does not affect natural hearing, but cybernetic hearing (it's half-natural after all; and cyberears usually modify only the inner ear, which shouldn't be affected much by ultrasonic emitters).

Anyways... reading IC. smile.gif

Bye
Thanee
Gretik
Its more to do with the fact that cyber ears are digital, real ears are roughly analogue, some signals can play havoc with the digital systems - your brains are able to roughly make sense of what the cyber ear is telling you but the recorder isn't.
Ophis
Damn, I'm playing this game with scientists!! smile.gif

Ah well, I'm just glad I didn't go for a cybered thug
