(this is a cross post from the SR3R main thread) Please feel free to comment:

Boosted Reflexes:

Change to make it a chemical treatment that has to be maintained. The essence cost would come from the chemicals, auto injectors to supply the drugs, and the resevoirs built into the body to hold the drugs.

This basically changes it from a one time treatment into a set of body compartments with auto injectors, with a supply of drugs.

Keep the same benefits and restrictions on not compatible with wired reflexes and vehicle control rigs.

Level 1 would cost 0.4 and 5,200 nuyen to install and 200 a month
Level 2 would cost 0.8 and 10,500 nuyen to install and 500 a month
level 3 would cost 1.2 and 16,000 nuyen to install and 1,000 per month

If the user misses an appointment to pickup new chemical inserts, reduce their boosted reflexes rating by 1 per month. I'm still working on a way to keep someone from getting level 1 and buying the level 3 drugs and overloading themselves.

Overloading could cause permanent physical damage.

Wouldn't the injectors be the same machinery, and only the drug strength differ?

Maybe put a high price on the auto-injector cyberwear, so that your gutter-punk will be popping a hyperderm in his/her leg to get their boost, and then follow the pricing per month with the drugs.

could also have a penalty for not taking the drugs... as well as losing a reflexes rating per month without new drugs, they also go 'cold turkey', and without the drugs they go a little shakey, find it a bit more difficult to do tasks etc. This increases, until the reflex ratings goes back to 0, and they are finally weened off the drug.

Also if they are on the drug, and pumping it into their system every month... wouldn't they see some side-effects on use?

I had the increase in Essence cost due to having to have more reseviors and auto injectors implanted.

Right now boosted is written up as being "a one time chemical and electrical treatment". I agree that there should be some side effect to boosting the body like this. But, if you're already sticking chemicals into the body to get this level of performance, why are there currently no adverse side-effects?

Boosted reflexes mean *permanent* reduction of essence, are nearly impossible to remove, and they are *incompatible* with any other cyberware reaction/initiative booster.

From time to time you have to make a perception check, with +1 to TN per +1 initiative die; if you fail you react without thinking to a perceived threat - boosted reflexes *are* cyberware initiative enhancements, therefore subject to the rules on page 45 of Man & Machine.

What more adverse side effect you want?!?
