It has been clearly implied that implanted commlinks include a sim module (rather convenient since you cannot control it through mental commands otherwise).
My question is, how much control do I have over my sim module. Could I turn off the different senses and only experience the ones I’d like in order to avoid getting spammed by emotive porn commercials.
Somehow it stands to reason that one should be able to have options within the sim module interface and just flip a few mental switches.
So, what kind of senses do we have?
Vision
Scent
Tactile
Hearing
Emotions
I *should* be able to turn some of them off.
On another note: Would a mage with a Simrig be able to record what he sees and perceives in astral space? Would be neat.

A mage would be able to record the feeling they feel while astral.. but seeing as Astral Perception does not use the physical senses, you wouldn't be able to record anything outside of regular sight or hearing.
Astral projection, you leave your meat completely, so you would have no recording outside of where you meat body is laying.

You are able to do this, as AR can be outputted via a simsense module, too.

Although you could turn these off a hacker (or intrusive spam) could turn them back on.
Also I thought I saw a sim link for implanted comlink listed in the book, so you would need to pay for it.

A mage astrally percieving and recording their senses would be recording their eyes' view of normal space, not astral, IMO. IIRC that was addressed in one of the books, but I can't remember which one, so take that for what it's worth.
As for senses that the human brain is set up to deal with:
Vision (sight)
Audition (hearing)
Gustation (taste)
Smell (olfaction)
Tactition (pressure)
Thermoception (heat)
Nociception (pain)
Equilibrioception (balance)
Proprioception (body awareness)
Emotion is not a *sense*, clasically, but it is something that is recorded by simsense, so it definitely belongs on our list.
I certainly agree that different senses could be turned on or off, and that a user could set up a number of different profiles for themselves offering different levels of immersion. Some senses might be authorized only for certain users. Some senses might activate whenever the commlink detects that the user has entered a certain place, such as home or a club, or even deactivate when it detects the proximity of a specific commlink, such as a boss or girlfriend's. The possibilities are endless. (doubly so for the clever hacker)

Nice list, gotta remember that one since I can always switch senses to confuse people when they "smell" what they see and hear what they touch.

I didn't get that impression at all actually. Is there a specific reference you had in mind for this? Why would a Sim Module cost MORE essence than just a com, if a sim module is included in the com?

The sim module is a commlink accessory that you access with a datajack or trode net. Simrigs (both worn and implanted) and cranial commlinks also contain sim modules. |
Although I've heard that not all printings of the book have that part about cranial commlinks.

That's one thing that isn't covered in SR rules that I hope to see - synesthesia. Maybe some kind of chemical or sim application. Talk about confusing.
