Honestly, I'm not sure how my players would react to this. I'm sure a few would be leaning towards "Kill it with fire".

My characters are split. Most would leave it alone. One would write a list of questions for the all-knowing free spirit that only answers to spilled blood... and buying a MMG.

I'll tell you exactly how players would react.

Mage Character: "Shapechange spells, only 1,000 nuyen.gif an hour."

Come on - since when did a player miss a chance to make money? These are people who get paid 20,000 nuyen.gif for a mission and still loot the magazines from the security guards they kill. *sheesh*
Toptomcat
In Shadowrun, that hardly moves the needle on the weirdness meter.
mfb
i view the furriecon as a great opportunity--one which requires a lot of cow crap and diesel fuel to take advantage of. i have, thus far, avoided the hell out of downtown.
Rock
Interestingly enough, I played a game once that involved the players having to infiltrate an exec's house while he was having a birthday party for his daughter. It was pretty funny having Killer B, legendary Street Samurai, have to dress as Bobo the Singing Clown and the Dwarven Merc dress like a racoon TV character.

In Shadowrun I'd suspect many people have cosmetic surgery to look like actual anthropamorphic animals. More desperate people go the whole 9 yards and loos a great deal of essence/bioindex becoming hermaphordite centuars with two penises.

The Sensible Erection RPG (serpg.com) has a level where you must kill all the furries in a furry con.

In the context of Shadowrun it could be a great way to get rid of the PCs' enormous stockpiles of ammunition on their character sheets. Make them burn through it all shooting the furries.
Tiralee
Ahem-

I do not advocate the massacre of a subgroup of humanity because I find their objectives and actions at times baffling and distasteful.

I was asking about the Weird-o-meter situations that you've dropped players into.

Although that shapechange spell idea is absolutely freaking brilliant.

Heh, could you imagine the utter confusion of an actual shapeshifter trying to get through that mob?

Confusion? Nonsense! What better way to hide than amongst all the wannabes? Is that the killer shapeshifter... Or is she just another boy dressed up as a catgirl?

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Dude, one of the Shadowrun games at Gencon involves going to a Furry convention.

Oooo and its run by Grendal?
Man, I almost wish I was there to play in that... its on the level of the anime con our GM-only-stupid-o-clock-one-shot ended up with.

SL James
That's funny. I wish I was there to set the GM and participants and game author on fire.

Good. Gods.

Ok, and I thought some of my ideas were a little weird.
Who thought it up?
More importantly, who had the gumption to run it, who was drunk enough to play, who survived and what were the, ahem, "civillian casualties"?

-Tir.
Ophis
And a drop bear reference too...

Its not being run untill Gencon Indy. There needs to be at least one Sr-stupid run each year. Thankfully I didnt write it this time (un like the last 2 years...)

...wow. One day, I'll figure out this whole "burn the furries" thing. I mean, this is nowhere near as bad as some places I've seen. I once saw a thread on another forum where jokes about incest, pedophelia, rape, and snuff passed without comment, but one person spoke positively of furry and the thread erupted into a long anti-furry flamewar and demands that the person be kicked and/or banned.

What's so bad about people who like to RP anthropomorphic characters or dress up in stupid costumes?

But forget that. There was an actual topic, and I guess I'll reply to that like I intended to.

In one of my earliest games, I had a group of pranksters somehow get ahold of a chemical that reacted with the oils in (meta-)human skin to dye the skin a bright blue, and was very hard to remove. They wanted to spread it through the Seattle water system, but couldn't get into the treatment facility themselves.

Then there was this free spirit that had a unique spell that caused any number of random effects within it's radius (I had a table to roll on, mostly SURGE effects, if I recall). When it cast it, it wound up turning the decker/face into a woman. Then (though this was aprtially out of my hands) she and the (male) assassin went and got drunk together, and wound up back at the face's place. They're still dealing with the consequences of that night.

Oh, and the time a mage projected the rigger's mind (it was sort of like an astral quest, but took place entirely in dreams) into the dreams and memories of the deranged shaman of the group, to learn some things about the shaman's past. The rigger wound up going through the shaman's memories of being stuck in Bug City, fighting a blood mage, bizarre things seen in the astral, etc...
Lindt
Its us making sure that furries are the dead bottem of the geek food chain. Dont worry, it will rub off eventually.

Yep, anything involving astral planes can be truly trippy f*cked up. "s why i love them so.

Google the word "yiff".

On second thought, no, don't nevermind, forget I said anything. =)

--

I can't really think of anything truly "wierd". Maybe that mall full of zombies?

Runners are hired to steal certain deposit boxes from a mall-based bank. Turns out there is a uber-force malevolent free spirit in the mall that looks like a cute puppy.

Once it started animating the dead bodies of mall-goers it had stashed away, and of the first runners that died, things got REALLY wierd. The runners did get a lot of milage out of using things from the sports shop and such in fighting back the zombie hordes.

Of the two runners that made it out, one did so by emptying an entire MGL-12 clip into a loading dock door. In his words, "I just wanted to get out."

=)

What's your point? There's Spock/Kirk slash, pictures of Jean Grey in the nude, roleplaying games with a statistic for penis size, ridiculous amounts of Rei pornography...
EVERY fandom has its sexual side.
KarmaInferno
Yes, and we mock them all. =)

But Trekkies, roleplayers, otaku and Marvel zombies don't have such a horrific Internet reputation.

Look - we're all familiar with what weirdness is on the internet. But when I say "My god, that's wrong," there are two general actions taken by those around me:

1: What are you looking at? <pause> "Ahhhhgh! God, My eyes!"
2: Grim-faced ignorance. They're not going to look, they're not even going to turn around. This second stage usually occurs after stage 1.

Kirk/Spock? Meh. I though the Autobot Christmas "special" was....weird. Fanboy pron - hell, what do we call the quite detailed description of Nadia's Lushious Gams? Furries - Heh, look up "Plushies." <-NOT SAFE for WORK, ever. Or around kids

The 'net is vast and deep. Sometimes things live there that should not.

There is a third response, a callous "I've seen worse."
Apathy
The wierdest run I ever GM'd involved an initiation prank to join the Bozo's (prankster sprawl gang). The runners had to sneak into the Mayor's Executive building downtown, climb to the top of the dome, and replace one of the arms of the statue with one given to them by the gang leader. The arm was actually a remote-controlled cyber arm, with internally mounted cybersquirt, and the statue started flipping everyone off and squirting them with a dmso/lsd mixture the next day. Film of 'the assault on the dome' ran live on all the major networks.

Sounds alot like The Scatterbrains.

Either way, that sounds like a hilarious mission smile.gif

As far as I'm concerned, grown adults who play dress up are scum - be they Trekkies, LARPers, Furries, etc. But Furries just creep me out more than even LARPers.

No, and knowing you there was no wiggle room. It's called being facetious. Sorry, I forget you frequently need things explained to you. I really should have put a clarification paragraph there. smile.gif

Fanboy pron - this is a subject best left undisturnbed after someone challanged (I think) Kagetenshi ...

That was SR slash.

Taran
Yep, Dunkelzhan/Villiers slash IIRC. I tried to search for it, but couldn't find anything; this forum is smarter than I am sometimes.

Edit: never mind, it's in this thread. What can I say? It makes me laugh.

Edit squared: holy shit, hyzmarca.

Ai carumba.

You know you say that, but you know what they bill GenCon as? That's right. A bunch of lunatics who like to dress up, swing around swords and pretend they're Knights rescuing damsals from dragons, or worse, a bunch of REALLY crazy lunatics who like to dress up and pretend they're cybernetically-augmented criminals.

Every fandom has it's extremists. I like Furry stuff, most especially the porn - though I stay the hell away from actually conversing with many furries, because of the beforementioned extremists. I've never even considered going to a con or getting dressed up. Why? Why the hell should I?

Think before you open your yaps. The morons wearing Fursuits are like the guys who LARP Shadowrun with glock-19s and blanks in empty warehouses. The rest of us just eye them askance and go the other way.

Oh, and for the record, I've seen the abovementioned hermaphroditic centaur porn. It's really not all that. If you've lived through tubgirl, goatse, or a flurry of gurochan material, you've seen far worse. Get a grip and STFU.
ShadowDragon8685
Oh, as for what my characters would do? Hmmmmm...

Skate: Try to find a cute girl who's not too extreme, and go to bed with her.
Lin Mao: Airlift in extra booze and party favors. Make nuyen.gif .

There's a very good reason I hate tabletop gaming and gaming stores - the effing gamers.

Haha .... I just got my wife interested in playing shadowrun.,... so we play once a week. We are at the point where we need more players so that we can have a more complicated run. There was a look of fear in her eyes as she recanted memories of people that openly called themselves gamers in high school. I nodded and told her that I fear those people as well, and that those people are generally shunned by everyone.
