Full Version: Martial arts maneuvers: Skills or not?

I found myself wondering something this morning -- since a mnemonic enhancer will decrease the Karma cost of learning or improving a skill, does that decrease apply to the learning of maneuvers for the various styles of martial arts listed in the back of the Cannon Companion? Are such maneuvers considered "skills" for that purpose?

Normally, in theory, it costs 2 Karma to learn the first maneuver allowed by your skill level, and 7 Karma to learn the second. Would they only cost 1 Karma and 4 Karma, respectively, to learn for a character with a mnemonic enhancer?

Opinions?

I can't off-hand think of a reason why this wouldn't work. But there may be an obscure rule saying it wouldn't. Either way I would run it by your gm first before assuming it works.

I shouldn't think so... Nothing Canon on maneuvers being skills.

I thought it cost 2 Build Points/Karma per Maneuver up to one half the related skill, then 8 Build Points/Karma per maneuver beyond that.

As to the Mnemonic Enhancer reducing these costs, I would rule that it doesn't, as they are not normal skills. You already get the cost-reduction benefits from that piece of Cyberware when you learn the actual Martial Art itself.

Manuevers are not skills them selves but apart of a skill, so no mnemonic enhancer would not effect manuevers them selves. But it would effect the skill it self. If I remember correctly, for every two points in a martial art skill you get to choose a new manuever.
