My complaint is that 4th ed. came out a year ago, and only now are we seeing the first of the core rulebooks. RH and CE are useful, but the core books - Street Magic - is a lot more useful, and I'd rather see the core books first. |
While I too think it would have been nice to have had the rules expansions sooner than later, I remember some rumblings back when SR3 first came out that the new edition was nothing but "Rules, Rules, Rules" and that it was the "death of flavor and setting" because all the rules expansions were front-loaded on to the release schedule.
Makes me wonder, if we'd had two or three SR4 rules expansions out by GenCon this year, would there have been the same complaints?

Yes. Pretty much, even if the gods appeared in front of them and handed them a perfect version of the book that would be released one week after the main rules were, people would still complain. If players have nothing to complain about, they make something up.

People will complain when the book is fast. People will complain when the book is slow. That's the nature of people. And even more to the point, that's the nature of RPG Forums: rules questions that turn into arguments, house rules that turn into arguments, and complaints that (you guessed it) turn into arguments.
That goes even more so for DS.

But would you have it any other way?

Nah. I've got other sites I go to when I want to have a discussion with someone where one side might actually sway the opinions of the other.

Those exsist?

Yeah. There's forums.me.com where I like to have long discussions with myself. hotmail.com where I email myself back and forth. And gullibleidiots.com where everyone always listens to everything I say.

Hackmaster's forums, Star Fleet Battles forums, and rpol.net (at least the games I run / play in) are generally good places for a discussion, although even they have their moments.

Uh, sorry to call you out in front of everyone here, but gullibleidiots.com does not exsist. Stop being a dirty liar!

Hunh. forums.me.com actually exists. Whodathunkit?

Samaels, you exposed the hidden cameras that are part of the conspiracy! Now, you must commit honorable suicide while I stage some drop bear riots to distract him.

It must be a pretty sad conspiracy. I can think of thousands of people more interesting to watch than me, including either of Dave Navarro's wives.

Yes, yes they do. Some even far more than here.
Because frankly I've even seen it happen here occationally, and I know I've been swayed. Unfortunately it requires two people of a different sort than makes up a lot of traffic here. But it happens. See for example my discussion with Synner earlier about the wording on Power Throw. I came to understand WHY the writer chose to express the effects in terms of Strength, while I he believe he came to understand why I found it worded in a confusing way that led me to believe it was capped by the Strength maximum.
As a result I'm putting together a suggestion for the FAQ. Maybe it'll be used, maybe it'll be partailly used, but I'm fairly confident that even if it isn't the FAQ will still address the whole issue of Cap/No Cap in some other way.

Actually, we just watch everyone. It's easier that way. Plus, we get a great discount in buying hidden cameras in bulk and have to spend the funding we're misappropriating from the U.N. somehow.

Ah well, maybe some good will come of it. Unlike the UN Resolutions. Has anyone ever followed one of those when they didn't have something to gain from it besides "the UN won't be angry at you if you do what we say?"

Well, they typically start doing so after U.N. special forces kidnap their families...
James McMurray
Aug 12 2006, 08:41 PM
Then shouldn't we start witht he kidnappings some time soon?
LilithTaveril
Aug 12 2006, 08:43 PM
Well, they would, but they're only 4 people. Plus, we haven't seen them since they entered a school in Iraq to try to convince a family to comply. Of course, it was bombed by Americans four minutes later, so the U.N. is currently looking for volunteers until they can hire replacements.
James McMurray
Aug 12 2006, 08:49 PM
Damn! If the family kidnapping scheme works, all we'd need is a UN armed with my ideas and the willingness to kidnap some families and we could have perfection. Ah well, maybe next time. You'll let me know if you get some volunteers?

Well, we managed to get a few... But, they didn't pass the required mental exams. Apparently, they weren't psychotic enough.

Well, they're thinking of staging some prison riots and kidnapping the next set from American jails. That way, we have the right amount of psychopath.

Are you forgetting where we speak!? We are in the epicenter of sociopathy! Runners do pretty awful things, the least of which is kidnapping families.
