emo samurai
I called myself emo samurai because samurai are emo; they write poems called Jisei no Ku that are supposedly written right before their deaths, and a central conceit of samurai poetry is the evanescence of beauty and life. The thing is, though, people find the idea of an emo samurai funny, including me, so I'm called emo samurai.

What about you, friendly dumpshock people?
eidolon
eidolon is one of my favorite words for ghost/spirit/apparition/etc. When I chose it, I didn't know there was a named free spirit in the SR world with the same moniker, but hey, it's cool, so I kept it.
Sahandrian
Digging through here to find something else entirely, but this is amusing...

Sahandrian was my first SR character, an elf decker/face. That name in turn comes from D&D. "Sahandrian" is the name of the elf god's sword.

The character has changed his name at this point, and if I were making the account now I'd have used something else (though probably not his new name).
FanGirl
I also named myself after my first and only PC, a technomancer. I chose the name because I wanted to pick a name that marked her as a techie, but that was at least semi-unique. Because I tend to get obsessed with things, FanGirl seemed like the most obvious choice for both her and me.
BishopMcQ
It's my name...
stevebugge
What McQuillan said.
DireRadiant
Before Google, it may have been a challenge to discover the original source for the name I used for my first SR Character.
Ancient History
If the shoe fits.
Firewall
My first ever Shadowrunner was an ex-corporate wage-slave who worked in security. Since he spent so much time keeping people out of the system, he picked up the nickname 'Firewall'
nezumi
Nezumi for Nezumi Hebereke. That means "Drunk Mouse" in Japanese, as a nod to my MUD character I hung on to for the longest time.
James McMurray
Guess. smile.gif
Elve
I'm using this nick for ages... Dunno what the real reason was...

What he said, plus a personality trait.
PBTHHHHT
"PBTHHHHT!!!" nyahnyah.gif
Ophis
My favorite charcter from Abramic (christian, jewish and muslim) mythology. Also the LARP character I lost days before signing up here. Just think about the first line of my sig to work out where I feature in the bible.
JackRipper
...because Ted Bundy didnt sound cool.

Actually was my first Deckers name since Fast Jack was already in use.
dog_xinu
DoG XinU was my first character (decker) and has a very special place in my heart. To a degree dog was based on me and my life at the time (no I wasnt a hacker but the rest is very similar). Plus there is not too many dog xinu's out here. smile.gif

De Badd Ass
I am a DBA. I got tired of people asking, "What's a DBA?". One day I came up with this.

It is sometimes a job description, too.
Mysterio
I started using the nickname Mysterio like about 8 years ago when I first got the net at home. I needed a nick when trying a chat line and noticing a Spider-Man video game nearby and Mysterio was on the cover, so i used it and kept it since.

Yes he is the one with the fishbowl on his head
No I do not wear one on mine
No, I won't tell you if I have tried.

You have, haven't you?
X-Kalibur
I started using my monicker way back in ~'98 when Starcraft came out. I actually kinda stole the spelling from an old and little known side-scroller for the SNES, I modified it a tad however. It's just kinda stuck since then albeit with variations.
PenAgain
Hrmmm.

Used to go by Pendragn (King Argthur buff in high school, back in the eight character username days)... on a New Warriors comic book mailing list they affectionately truncated it to Pen...

When my old hotmail was overcome by trash, I started over again... and decided to be PenAgain, because, well, I was rebuilding my internet persona from the ground up. Also because I tende dto end message board posts with a closing comment after my signature which led to me signing off (again)... get the idea?

Long story for a silly name.

--Pen
Back in the old days, something witty would go here...

X-Caliber 2097? I remember that one.

Me, I was a forum virgin when I registered here, so why not just use my name? wobble.gif
Dranem
Well, Dranem is my gaming alias that I used pretty much any game that I play. I've used it for nearly 5 years now, it's a variation on my last name, and I generally don't have trouble using it - due to it's uniqueness smile.gif
Homme-qui-rigole
It's a translation of "laughingman" in french, with a native touch

... because I always liked the way that Harlequinn comment stuff on shadowland

The first time it was a real pain to get it off.
Whizbang
Went with Whizbang since she was my first Missions character, and that was what lead me to these boards. She's a teenage ganger mage with a propensity for flashy spells (okay, so her mentor was a parrot shaman....go figure) smile.gif
adamu
My name is Adam. That username was already taken, and quite conspicuously so. I live in Japan. In Japanese it's Adamu. Dropping the capital makes it look a lot less like that other username.
Witness
Witness was the Matrix tag of one of my NPCs: a kid who'd witnessed his best friend being abducted (by aliens, he thought at the time) and was pretty messed up by the experience. He's since grown up (alongside the PCs who were originally sent to rescue him) and witnessed all sorts of weird world-shaking stuff.
PBTHHHHT
Leave No Witnesses!
Sorry Witness *ker-blam!* wink.gif
Witness
I've had that coming for a long time. wink.gif
Kagetenshi
I was young, Japanese was the "cool" thing, and it seemed appropriate for a Shadowrun board.

Now I'm older, actively studying the language, and while I get a little twinge of embarrassment every time I email someone who speaks the language (especially a native), it's now the name I'm known by on the internet—changing pseudonyms is the internet equivalent of facial reconstructive surgery, plus changing your build and your height.

Plus I'm still kinda fond of it, I'll admit.

emo samurai
I just capitalized my username! I'm so happy!
Fortune
I'm still alive ( eek.gif ), so I think that's proof that my nickname is fitting. wink.gif
fistandantilus4.0
Character from the Dragonlance chronicles, which got me in to reading, which got me in to gaming, which got me into D&D, which got me in to SR, which got me on to these boards.

Shadow
I am a big fan of The Shadow. You know, "Who know's what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!" When I first signed up for the boards (5 years ago sheesh!) I was playing A Night Elf infiltrator names... Shadow.
krayola red
Oh shit, I remember the Shadow. That guy was the bomb diggity...I can't believe someone else actually knows about him. smile.gif
emo samurai
What about you, krayola?
krayola red
I actually don't have an interesting story behind this particular name. I was just trying to think of a handle one day and it popped into my head randomly, so I went with it. Hell, my favorite color isn't even red. I guess it's representative of my tendency to make names that don't make any sense. wobble.gif
emo samurai
I have another one that I'm thinking of using on forums in the future, and it's "Spaghetti Knife." People are picking up on "emo samurai," so I'm using it as a fallback.
will_rj
My name is Wilson (will), and i live in Rio de Janeiro. (rj).

That´s it. Please forgive me for having such a boring username. frown.gif

My SIG, though, has an interesting story.
Fortune

Well that's special.

I'm GodaimeSama not, actually, because I'm a Naruto fan, but because it translates to The Fifth. People then ask, the fifth what? And I smile and offer them a doughnut.
krayola red
So...the fifth what? biggrin.gif
Konsaki
Hmm... Well a decade ago, (has it been that long?) I was a young guy enamored with the Japanese way of things. (ie stupid fanboy)
I think I created this name when I was playing AD&D with my friends, but I definatly remember it being the name of my first MMO character ever in the game Asheron's Call.
I have kept the name through all the MMO's and P&P games I've ever played. Its usually used on the first character I use in a new group, and most of the time its either a Rogue or a Healer type character.
emo samurai
The fifth Hokage. He/she's obviously a Naruto fan.

Edit: Reread his/her last post. Sorry.
Caine Hazen
Well I started being called Caine whan I was GMing a WoD New Orleans game that ran for 2 years. I learned and tracked so many of the secrets that were involved in that world my players used to tell me only Caine would know that much.

I earned the Bloodname Hazen in Trail of Bloodright that was run at Origins one year. It seemed like a fitting match.

And since everyone alreeady was calling themselves "Caine" online, I decided to go with the combo... which has become my intardwebz identity. Yeah, so its more Btech and WoD related.. but at least it wasn't taken on all the email services grinbig.gif , although other than web postings, I never really use it in many games
underaneonhalo
About 5 years ago, I was sitting beneath a lamp painting warhammer 40K minis until my hand was about to fall off. I looked up to wipe the sweat from my brow and I spotted myself in the mirror, the circular bulb of the jewelers lamp above my weary head made me sigh and mutter "I'm wasting away under a neon halo".

Also it has this whole store bought salvation thing going on that just rocks my socks!
emo samurai
That sounds like a Nirvana lyric.
