Rules Question:
With a spell sustaining foci, can the magician to whom the foci is bonded voluntarily 'disrupt' the sustained spell at will? Page 191 doesn't talk about it and I can't find any references in Street Magic.
It says if a spell foci's spell is disrupted the magician can use the sustaining foci to sustain another spell. p. 191 SR4. Does 'deactivation' of the sustaining foci cause disruption? Can a magician use the Force 3 sustaining foci to sustain a physical barrier and then decided to dump the physical barrier and immediately cast and use the foci to sustain a detect enemies spell? Are their any tests involved or anything? Does a deactivated sustaining foci become blank, or upon activation does it immediately 'restore' the spell it was previously sustaining, because that would mean the character whose focus is snatched away from his person would have to recast the spell to get the benefit of the sustaining focus again.
I'm posting here to and elsewhere, sorry if this question doubles up.

A sustaining focus sustains the spell instead of the magician. Of course, the magician can simply deactivate the focus (a free action, p. 191 Activation), at which point the spell is no longer sustained, and then the focus is free to sustain another spell, but has to be activated again.

Are we waiting on anything in particular, IC? I'm well aware this is my first DS game, so maybe I just have unrealistic expectations when it comes to posting speed, or something... so no offense intended, I'm just wondering if I assumed a "roughly one post a day" schedule for players, or what. I know it sure feels like other games are whizzin' by a little faster than this, though, gang.

Usually, thats pretty much the pace. But this is always a busy time of the year for pretty much everyone. I know Vegas is pretty busy, and I damn sure know I'm crumbling under work

This is a pretty normal occurance in PbP gaming, you simply got to have to live with it.
It's extremely rare, that games run completely smooth over months or even years.
A game should not have stalls like this too often, though.
I suppose Vegas just has a little rough time currently. Show some patience.

Sorry y'all.. I'm on day 11 of 12 days on in a row. Couple that with trying to find a new car and just being downright exhausted it's sapping my energy to post. I figured you all would be better off with no posts than half-assed posts from me and I was kinda winging this bit to let you guys interact and free-from this before we moved on. If you guys just want me to power ahead, I can do that too... I also didn't want to just keep going and possibly leave a few people behind either of they're not on once (or more) a day. It's a delicate balance that I'm still trying to manipulate to please everyone so basically what I'm sayin is....
Up to you guys.

When in doubt, post. When we've got (it seems) several players who are content to do the "wait and see what everyone else posts" sort of gig, it means the "everyone else" in that equation just plain needs to post as often as possible, to keep things moving. I mean, if all
anyone does is wait and see what everyone else does, nothing'll ever move forward, y'know?

Vegas assensing of Erik's 'friend'
You asked for 8 rolls and your target is 5 ... here are the results:
1: 2
2: 4
3: 6 + 4 = 10. ... Success
4: 3
5: 1
6: 3
7: 3
8: 1
1 success
That blew chunks. Oh well. And yes, all you poor benighted teammates of mine, I'm playing Apex as something of the addle-minded professor. He tends to poke his nose in where it doesn't belong, a lot.

Lucky for him he has teammates who are capable of keeping said nose in the same configuration it started in.

Cedric, I suppose you are not totally familiar with 4th edition yet (judging from your above post).
You do not need to reroll your 6's anymore. The target is *always* 5, there are no modifiers, that change this. It's just a question *how many* hits (successes, as they are called these days) you score. Modifiers will always change the number of dice you roll.

Thanee, I know, its just that I use an on-line dice roller from third edition and then cut and paste. It's easier that way.
No big deal, I've been asked about it like three times already.

Yeah, like the traffic jams... they come out of nowhere and when they are gone you wonder what even caused them.

BTW, you have used a closing quote-tag to mark the end of the first line, that doesn't really work. Might want to edit that into a closing color-tag.

@Vegas: I suppose
Erik Suriel is a contact we got then... mostly out of curiosity... what's his connection/loyalty? Or are we not supposed to know that?

And speaking of contact ratings... I, so far, only got the team-contact rating for
Apex.
What numbers should I assign to the other characters (
Julio,
Billy,
Jinto)?

With only one hit, you can just look up the table in the SR4 book, I don't think you will gain much beyond
extremely basic information, I'm afraid.

OK y'all...
I'm leaving it up to you as to what your characters do for the next 30 minutes in game. Please do not post beyond 22:07:00

I know some players are out of pocket for health reason at the moment and hopefully we'll all be back together full-strength ASAP.
As for me, they found my car, stripped like a cheap table dancer on the south side of town. Hopefully I'll have the new car details and the old car insurance stuff straightened out by the end of next week at the latest and can devote MUCH more attention to the game and each of you.
Bear with me a bit longer guys... pretty please with tequila on top?

Hey guys!
I'm very sorry for the delay but I had an unfortunate little incident with my right lung which landed me in the hospital for the past 3 days. I'm currently posting from a laptop, which my father was nice enough to borrow from his work place. I'm still rather whoozy from all the stuff they're pumping in me so this message might end up making little sense I've been told that, if everything stays well during the weekend, I should be able to get back home either sunday night or monday morning. Anyways, thats pretty much all of it.

I'm good with pressing forward.
However, I cannot guarantee timely posts after today until next monday. I'm making one of those dreaded trips to the in-laws. We leave tomorrow morning early, and don't return until Sunday evening. While they do have internet access, my wife gets exceptionally irritable when I'm in front of the computer and not being social with her family. Did I mention that I'd rather be shoving nails into my eyeballs than socializing with her family?
Anyway, I will do what I can when I can, and will be back to posting regularly on Monday. I give Vegas/Critias free reign to play Julio in my absence if the game ends up waiting on me.
