Welcome y'all to the game...

A few minor posting guidelines and "my way" kinda stuff and we'll get underway.

Posting style
Very basic stuff, but so we're all on the same page:
* Italicize internal monologues/characters' thoughts.
* Player character/key NPC names in Bold.
* Time/date stamp at head of post in violet. Format: Sunday, 01/01/2070 00:00:00 - Location below in bold.
* "Regular quote marks around dialogue."
* Please keep spoilers and signatures OUT of the IC threads and don't link to rolls made. Makes for easier reading.

Dice
* Rolls will be made on the honour system using online rollers, Excel spreadsheet (I can send it to people who want it), or by tossing some of your very own 6-siders in front of you.
* (I'm shamelessly stealing this from Hitting Bottom, because I think it makes sense) As a general rule, if you think you need a die roll but aren't sure or don't know what to roll or exactly what modifiers to use, GO AHEAD AND MAKE/POST THE ROLL. Asking me what to roll and waiting for my reply and then rolling costs us a day of real time.
* Make your best guess, explain what it is, and then post the numbers from left to right IN THE ORDER ROLLED. That way, if I assign additional modifiers, I can lop rolls off starting from the right, and if I assign a bonus, I can roll it myself and tack the results onto the right-hand end.

Karma
Yes you will be getting some along the way, I'll be PM'ing it to you. We'll discuss how you can spend it when you start getting some nyahnyah.gif

Absiences
I know things come up suddenly, the power goes out, your net connection drops for more than 3 hours, the dog eats your homework, etc. However if you KNOW ahead of time that you're going to be gone, please do me (and your other players) the courtesy of letting us know you're going to be MIA and for how long. It'll help keep the game going smoother.

The Team
TheOneRonin - Julio Rizzo
Cedric Rolffson - Apex

Hate to do this but I'm going to leave late tomorrow and not be available again until the 21st. As a rule I don't post on weekends since I like being married and my wife doesn't like me spending 22 hours a day on the internet smile.gif

Okay, team connections, my character lives in Redmond and he's got a specialization in J.K.D so I think I could tie my character to Johnny that way. Same instructor, same class, whatever.

Scarlet is an easy enough tie in since my character works Redmond streets doing investigations. It would be easy enough to have a friend-of-a-friend refer Scarlet as a electronics expert to help me set up and run equipment on a job. That'd put us in contact, I purchased a Rating 3 agent plus some programs for my commlink so I could have some help doing data search etc. Maybe she helped me with that.

I'll be submitting my finalized character sheet with the team mate contact points by tomorrow morning.

On a ancilliary issue, before game time starts I'd like to have my character summon and bind two Force 3 elementals. These would have been done several weeks apart to avoid 'carrying over' drain.

If this is acceptable let me know, it'd save 6 hours of game time for summoning plus recovery time.
Critias
For the record -- I'm around today 'till at least 11 pm or midnight or so, but then I'll be off-line tomorrow and early Thursday (back mid-afternoon). Me an' the missus are going camping/shooting, and it's such a short trip I honestly don't recall if I ever PMed you about it or not. It's part of why I was so impatient to get things rolling -- I could at least make an intro post, etc, and not hold things up too bad.

More about Billy: For starters, I tend to just give my characters fairly straightforward names. My two longest running guys both just go by their first names. With Johnny here, it's just the Americanized version of his actual name. If anyone, during gameplay, thinks of something cooler? Feel free to slap him with it, as a nickname/streetname. Part of why I always go by first names only (or sometimes last names only) is because it always feels kind of ridiculous to give myself a nickname. So, right. Feel free to come up with something IC if you want to.

Stuff you'd know, depending on what you'd seen him do first-hand in previous jobs: he really is very good at talking his way around things and dealing with people (11-13 dice of "good," depending on the situation, so ge's probably considered primarily a Face by most teams). He also really is good with a pistol (occasionally two), to the tune of 13+ dice. He also really is quite the martial artist (13+ dice again, total, along with the ability to do lethal damage, and punches that do about twice what his Strength score should let him). He's got no obvious cyberware or bioware (so if he has it, it's the pricey stuff), wears unnecessarily expensive clothes, carries unnecessarily expensive guns, and an expensive street bike; all stuff of much higher quality than his year or so of Shadowrunning should be able to support. He's a chain smoker of a tooth-whitening brand of cigs that cost twice what they should, is all thumbs when it comes to maintaining his gear (basic cleaning of a pistol is about as far as he can get), and is just good enough to make it out of scrapes by the skin of his teeth (despite his horrible luck). Despite all his combat skill (or perhaps because of it), he seems to think of dealing out violence as just another day at the office -- it takes a lot to ruffle his feathers or make him actually angry. Shooting someone or breaking their leg with a side-kick is just a part of his job, it's not something personal.

Possible character ties:
Julio: He and Billy could've been an "odd couple" on some loanshark gigs, or something, from someone that owed a Fixer some cash. My guy's the smooth talker in the nice suit, Julio's the brooding shaven-headed scary guy in the ill-fitting suit. Good cop/bad cop, collection agency style. Basic mob-flavored muscle gigs, for basic mob-flavored muscle types. They both seem to have the same basic "crime syndicate" background, and maybe a Johnson or Fixer picked up on that and gave them appropriate work.

Apex: In addition to the JKD connection, there's always the possibility Billy could've backed Apex up on something. Either needing some streetsmarts to get him through a rougher part of town (you need to investigate something, I cna get you past the gangs in that neighborhood, particularly Chinatown), or even as some muscle to help out (Billy can hold his own against Spirits if he has to) with some trouble-making Free Spirit or something. Or, hell, maybe both -- met at a class some time, then again on a job, blah blah blah. Whatever works.

Scarlet: I got nothin'. It feels like a cop out to just go "he's an elf, she's an elf, he prob'ly banged her." And, well, it's not even a good cop out, since I can't think of it adding a whole bunch to the story. I can't think of any specific jobs they'd both get hired for, aside from traditional Shadowrunner stuff (IE, party thief, party fighter, party mage, etc). You got any ideas, Thanee?

Jiro Osamu: I dunno if I'm going blind, crazy, or both, but I don't see anything about this dude on the other thread. I mean, I'm sure Vegas knows something about him, but as far as I can find, I got nothin'.
Critias
This just in -- I'm gonna go hunting for a new name (in the corners of my mind), when I get back on-line after dinner. There's apparently a "Johnny Yen" running around, and I don't want (1) any confusion, (2) anyone thinking I'm a knock-off, etc. Aside from that name change, though, Vegas should have my final sheet in her PM box right now.
Vegas
Heh. Thanks for the updates guys. I have no problem getting started "sooner" if people get finalized CS's to me. I feel like I'm coming down with "The Crud" you often get when flying, so I took a stupid nap and didn't get my intro post written up so... that'll be forthcoming tonight.. I hope.

@ Cedric
Thanks for the heads up about not posting on the weekends. I can't say I blame you for having a life off DSF nyahnyah.gif

@ Critias
Thanks also for the heads up about you being gone for a couple of days. Give my hugs to the missus nyahnyah.gif And yes, I got your PM/CS
Vegas
Ok, intro post is up in the IC thread, feel free to start posting character arrivals and we'll go from there. Right now this is what you make of it.
Critias
Bing Lei Shen, aka "Billy." It'll do, 'till I find a street name.
Mister Juan
Critias; don't worry mate. You ain't going either crazy or blind. I have, in fact, posted no description whatsoever of Jiro on the recruitment thread. Why didn't I? Well, his background was in limbo for some time, and after a while... I just sorta zapped out and forgot about posting it.

So, I'll get to it right now.
Mister Juan
Sorry... It's long nyahnyah.gif I got carried away I think...

Jiro shouldn’t be running the shadows. People like him are supposed to either have a family, a cushy job, play chess in the park, feed the pigeons or just be dead. Jiro isn’t just a “mature” runner: he’s old. Real old. And he’s old school style about a lot of things. Like most Asians, determining his age is sort of a difficult thing, but the gray streaks that dominate most of his previously black hair and mustache don’t seem to be there for stylize purposes. The way he can recount past events, things going back to at least the 30s, also betray his age (he could easily be in his late forties). His knowledge of Seattle, although extensive, sometimes comes across as outdated, just like his knowledge of current events. It is as if he was somewhat disconnected from the present. He also seems to find most technological gadgetry alien… and rarely touches his crappy, out of mold, commlink. It sometimes even seems a bit dusty… and has been known to serve as both a paperweight and a doorstop.

Jiro is obviously from Japanese origins, stands at about 5’9” and is in a better shape than people half his age. He has no obvious cyberware, and doesn’t behave like he has any. His aura betrays neither ware nor magic. . Jiro has dark brown eyes and a lightly tanned skin, which is slowly starting to show wrinkles here and there.. He also wears a mustache, which is now turning a dark gray, like his hair. Jiro also has a long and thin scar, running the front length of his throat, from left to right. It never tries to hide it, but pretty much refuse to talk about it. Odds are, it probably has something to do with how coarse his voice sounds. Either that or he was a heavy smoker…

It is a very well known fact, for anyone who knows Jiro, that he works (when not “on the job”) in a small flower shop situated in the International District of Seattle’s downtown, smack in the middle of the Japanese community. He’ll never discuss “business” in the establishment and he seems to genuinely like his work.

Some may or may not know this: one of the main reason why Jiro is so disconnected with the present… and why almost no one has ever heard of him (and yet he has such a broad range of skills) was that, for the past 15 years, Jiro has been in the can. Multiple counts of manslaughter. Rumors says he was released early, on parole, mostly for good behavior.

Jiro clearly has some sort of link to the Yakuza… or at least used to have some link with the Japanese crime syndicate. He isn’t, at least not anymore, a known player in the organization. He still follows, to the best of his abilities, the syndicate’s codes of honour: jingi (respect and deference to those above you), giri (duty and obligation) and ninjo (sympathy to the plight of the common man). In following this code, Jiro acts very much in the same manner as the samurai of old times, putting his duty and honour before everything else, and never acting out of fear or anger. He is always bound by his word, repays every debt he owes, and is loyal probably unto death. Calm, serious and courteous are always the words of the day. Unless ordered so, Jiro will only use deadly force if he has no other choice. It isn’t that he resents killing. What he resents are “gratuitous acts”. He is a total anachronism; behaving more like an old samurai from the 15th century, than a 6th world criminal for hire.

Skill-wise, Jiro is known to be both very fast, and rather deadly (when he needs to be), doing his dirty work either with some rather impressive pistol marksmanship (Colt Manhunters, and nothing else.) or some even more impressive monofilament whip passes. Most of his adversaries then to get out of the fight with their lives… but usually with a few bits and pieces missing here and there.

Some littles notes:
-Anyone who would have had any dealings with the Yakuza, between 2044 and 2055 might had met him.
-Anyone having been in the UCAS prison system, between 2055 and 2070 might had met him.

Anyone has any questions I might answer? I left a lot of things “vague”… depends how long we’ve known each other and such…

Scarlet, Elven Combat Hacker

Scarlet is an entirely new face in the shadows of Seattle. She has no history to speak of and there is only little known about her on the streets, and she does not like to talk about it either. When she speaks, it quickly becomes apparant, that english is not her native language, even though she speaks very fluently. She has a clear and articulate pronounciation, like someone who is using languagesoft or has used tutorsoft for training.

Scarlet is an elven woman in her late twenties. She is of average height (1.72m or 5ft.8in.) and has a lithe and slender build. Her waist-length hair is bleached blonde, almost white, and her eyes are emerald green. Although she might not look like a supermodel, most would find her attractive. Scarlet is extremely fast and agile, clearly cybernetically enhanced, to a level that your average street thug couldn't afford. She has keen eyes and seems to notice a lot of detail, likely with some modifications as well, although there is no visible sign for an eye replacement, they look perfectly natural. Scarlet also has a datajack, which is usually hidden beneath her hair. Her manners are very professional, while her equipment is pretty basic; everything you need, but nothing fancy. Even her commlink is just a standard model. Besides being a fairly good shot with her guns, Scarlet is mostly a computer and electronics specialist. She is a respectable hacker and gets things done in the matrix and she knows a lot about various security systems and how to get past them. Scarlet usually wears black leathers, which tightly fit her figure, and a loose-fitting leather jacket on top. Most of her equipment is kept in various small pockets around her belt and inside her jacket.
Thanee
As for the connections to the other PCs... we should certainly match those to each other (i.e. post here how we think they should be, once the details have been decided upon), not that we end up with someone having another as a 3/1 and him-/herself being listed as like 1/6 or so. biggrin.gif

For Scarlet it would be rather strange, if she knew more than one or two before the first runs, since she isn't around in Seattle long enough; most likely someone, which could have been her entrance into the local scene (Cedric's proposal seems fitting for that), and the others she will have acquainted with during a run or two together.

Thoughts about Scarlet's connection to the other characters (with my guess of Scarlet's connection/loyalty rating for them):

Apex - Going by what Cedric has written above... When Scarlet entered the Seattle scene seemingly coming out of nowhere, she had no contacts and not much else, especially almost no creds, and so she definitely was looking to make some by hiring out her talent in some fashion. This way, she got to help someone who in turn recommended her to Apex, and he asked her to help on a small job. Later they teamed up for a run. Apex would be Scarlets strongest connection among the team then. Scarlet for Apex: 1/3

Julio - Once Scarlet has started running in Seattle, this is probably the easiest way to get to know our big bruiser. He might have gotten her out of a tight situation once, and so Scarlet is owing him a bit for that. Scarlet for Julio: 1/3

Billy - Billy and Scarlet are like day and night in some way... there are quite a few similarities, but in other points they are completely different (i.e. the appearance of their equipment, though Scarlet does have a faible for stylish accessories as well, but her 'work gear' isn't very shiny, a used gun with scratches and whatnot, stuff like that; she's also a club goer and might have met him briefly in one of Seattle's clubs). I can see them get along pretty well, all things considered. As for how they know each other, they probably just met on a run (maybe in some club before, as mentioned above, which led to a quick 'oh, him/her' moment), or are mutual acquantances of Apex, and thus got together that way. Not much yet, but more to come. Scarlet for Billy: 1/2

Jiro - Another run acquaintance. Scarlet will likely feel a bit uncomfortable in his vincinity, though she will not show that openly, and keep any contacts brief, curteous and with a professional distance. Scarlet for Jiro: 1/1

I think Julio can tie into pretty much everyone here. He has worked the shadows, both the traditional runner side and the organized crime side. He does have ties to mafia, but bitches about the Seattle mob an their operations constantly. I figure we have probably all worked together in the past, at least once, so there is some passing familiarity.

Likely, Julio has the most connection with Billy.

QUOTE (Critias)

That sound great to me. Think of Julio as Joe Pantoliano's character from the Sopranos, only with about twice the muscle mass. And yeah, suits never do manage to fit him well.

And the spirit of Critas's fantastic description (<mumble> hard act to follow<mumble>), I'll try to give everyone an idea of what Julio is good at.

Julio is a damn good shot (10+ dice) with pretty much any conventional firearm. Pistols, SMGs, shotguns, assault rifles...he's used them all, though his favorite carry pieces are a pair of Ruger SuperWarhawks (.44 Mags), and when he expects trouble, an Ingram Smartgun.

Those who have seen Julio in action know he can dust knuckles with the best of them (11 dice). Billy once described Julio's fighting style as "...part judo, part Krav Maga, and part 'rip your fucking eyeballs out', but with less panache."

Julio also seems to have a "you best get the fuck out of my way" aura about him, and can make a veteran urban brawler wet his pants and cry for mommy.

He is comfortable on the street, and is most comfortable in the sort of environs that cater to lowlifes and criminals.
TheOneRonin
Hey Critas, I was pondering the relationship between Billy and Julio, and had a couple of ideas. How does this sound:

Billy sorta sees Julio as his protege. He knows Julio is relatively new to seattle, and though he is a natural street urchin, he still needs guidence. He finds Julio's acidic personality to exceedingly comical, and doesn't take him very seriously. He always take the mentor approach when dealing with Julio.

Julio, on the other hand, sees things a bit differently. He sees Billy behavior as mildly endearing, but mostly patronizing. He bitches constantly about it, and is always dreaming up new insults to throw at the elf, though none seem to every do any good. Julio has a grudging respect for Billy, and wouldn't ever dream of betraying him, but still gets reguarly pissed off.

What do you think?
Cedric Rolfsson
For connecting to Apex:

My character operated out of Boston for about two years in a very minor way. Always back up never as a front line runner, warding buildings, setting watchers, summoning elemental guards for safe houses and meetings that sort of thing. He used a different street name then and left Boston under a cloud.

Apex is in his early twenties, appears more formally educated than the average street mage, and is otherwise pure plain jane norm. He isn't going to shoot or fight his way out of trouble, being little better than the average street cop in either of those two areas. However he can toss mana and has a variety of spells.

He likes to gamble, and especially play poker, and has knowledge skills relating to 'underworld gaming sites' which would read to be illegal gambling dens, pit fighting venues, etc. It wouldn't be hard for him to have a tie in that way, you know he and Julio and Billy all got hired to 'collect' a debt from a welshing Raven shaman about a year ago etc. Scarlet, if your character is dialed in with a Redmond gang then I could easily know you that way since I've spent knowledge points on Redmond gangs. If so we could easily work together regularly on my skip traces and surveillance gigs, so we'd have a greater familiarity.

For those of you who don't know my style of play I want to apologize, I try and get by on cleverness and role-playing rather than die rolling. I'll try and limit it if people find it offensive since it tends to lead to lots of IC posts gathering information that seems off point, and fluff posts that are my vain attempts to create a rounded character. I think I've been on the boards with most of you at one time or another but I thought I'd just say that right now to give everyone warning.

Anyone who has Apex as a contact should know that I have very limited connections in Seattle, one person really, so I should have a low connection rating. I am however pretty dam loyal.
Cedric Rolfsson
Hey, for intro purposes, anyone want to give Apex a ride to the club? I will be using a freaking cab otherwise and I'd prefer to bum a ride with a teammate.

Vegas

Vegas
@Cedric

That's fine by me. Anything from here on out however will have to be in-game.
TheOneRonin
Cedric, if they can take my cussing and general offensiveness, they can take your fluff. cool.gif

Which, I'm going to use this as a disclaimer. Julio is an offensive person. He language is offensive, his demeanor is offensive, and his way of thinking is offensive. The general social response to him is "That guy is an asshole."

With that being said, I would like to apologize in advance if I say anything IC that personally offends anyone. I'm about as opposite of Julio as you can get IRL, so I don't want anyone to attribute what he says to how I feel. And if anyone thinks I've gone too far, just please let me know and I will tone it down. Basically if you can enjoy an episode of the Sopranos, you can deal with Julio. cool.gif
Mister Juan
The Sopranos is one of my favorite show, so I'm quite enjoying your character wink.gif
Cedric Rolfsson
Yup figured as much but since each summoning and binding takes like three hours I figured I'd do it pre-game. If you'd like I'll do it IC later when we have time, I just wasn't sure of the time frame we're working under and since summoning is really what Apex does elemental back up is important.

Spoilers to avoid excessively long post anyone can read if they feel like.
Summoning Force 3 Air Elemental

Summoning Force 3 Spirit of Man
[ Spoiler ]

I'll send you over the finalized CS via PM with the elementals names and services remaining plus the gear list minus the binding materials. I assume that Apex has rested sufficiently to not have drain for the meeting. Also, if I can get a ride with a teammate then prior to entering the club I'll attempt an astral sweep of the area from the parking lot. That's only if I can get someone to watch my meat body while I'm 'out'.

Thanee
@Cedric: You surely don't need to apologize, if you are roleplaying your character. biggrin.gif

As for the Redmond gang contact... not really, Scarlet is not exactly well-connected. wink.gif

For the background, we could make up pretty much anything, though, Scarlet could have stayed with a gang for a few weeks (possibly dating one of the gangers with ulterior motives in mind, to have a place to stay and so on), but disconnected herself from them as soon as she could afford it.

I left her entrance in Seattle pretty much open, to be able to work something like this in, in order to get the connections with her fellow runners to a workable point.

@The One Ronin: Absolutely no problem. I'm not easily offended. smile.gif

Here is a suggestion for Apex's connections to the other runners. They are pretty weak but best I can come up with.

never seen the Sopranos, (my wife and I deliberately avoided getting cable to cut down on the TV time) but I spend my days working with criminals, (drunks, abusers, sex offenders, etc.) so I can almost gaurentee nothing said in this forum will shock or offend me.

4 bp Scarlet (3/1 Loyalty/Connection)

Scarlet is Apex’s teammate and fellow runner. They’ve worked together in the past, put together by Frank who knows a guy who knows a guy who put the two together to work some surveillance gigs that were beyond Apex’s technical expertise but required his occult skills. Liking the professionalism and generally getting along well they’ve kept in touch and tried to involve each other in runs as they come up. She’s been his primary source for technical expertise and computer work since they’ve met.

4 bp Julio (3/2? Loyalty/Connection)

Julio and Apex have worked together previously along with ‘Billy’ doing collection work. Apex appreciates Julio’s skills even if the rough demeanor he projects often makes Apex a little uneasy. His inclinations towards violence are beyond what Apex is used to, but reminds him of some of the runners he worked with in Boston.

bp Billy

See Julio

5 bp Johnny Shen (3/2)

Johnny and Apex both train with the same Sifu, even though Johnny is far more advanced in his skills than Apex. Apex, while working a job providing astral security for a group of runners, bumped into Johnny and liked what he saw. Wanting to improve his hand-to-hand skills, he talked to Johnny about training and getting the Sifu’s name.
Cedric Rolfsson
I'm going to do an intro post since the only one who hasn't posted in Johnny and I don't see us catching a ride together, so I'm going to hop a cab. No astral recon.

Vegas, how do we post PAN modes? Do you want it noted somewhere in the heading or just assume we're defaulting to passive or something?

I'll post it in my intro since I am going to be unavailable to post for the after this until Monday morning. Sorry guys.
Vegas
If you guys want to tack on PAN modes to the headers of your posts that's fine. I know other games do so, so if you guys want to do so, go right ahead.

I'm still miserably sick and still have to work tonight. I know we've got a few people disappearing as of tonight and all throughout the weekend. I really appreciate you all posting your arrivals, and once everyone is there and we've had a chance for you all to interact within reason I'll post the next "scene" per se. smile.gif

That last IC post reminds me... what metatype is everyone? biggrin.gif

It's not exactly clear from some descriptions. When there is nothing mentioned, I generally assume human, but in Billy's case, that seemed to be wrong at least (ok, to be fair, there is a hint, that he is an elf in the original description). smile.gif

Just to help you get squared away, Billy is Bing Lei "Billy" Shen, Critas's character. He is the Elf Face/Adept/JKD expert. His character was orignally named Johnny Shen. He changed it to avoid confusion (that's what we call irony). cool.gif

The 4th person you are thinking of is Jiro Osamu, the older asian samurai guy.

So Apex should know:

Julio
Scarlet
Billy Shen
Jiro Osamu

Hope that clears things up.
TheOneRonin
Just for clarification, Julio is a Male Caucasian Human. Think a bald Joe Pantoliano, but with the build of a short pro football player.

This is the look I was going for.
Thanee
Ah... that's Joe Pantoliano. smile.gif

I must admit, I thought Julio looks a little scarier than him. biggrin.gif

Thanee
TheOneRonin
He probably does, but I just can't find a pic online that comes closer to my mental depiction of Julio. Of course, Julio probably outweighs Joe by about 100lbs, and is probably twice as broad across the shoulders.

If you know of a pic you think is closer to how you picture Julio, link it please. cool.gif
Critias
Yeah, sorry about that last-minute name change -- it turns out there's a few other characters 'round here with names (and maybe even basic backgrounds) kind of similar to what I'd originally cooked up. So it's now Billy Shen. Apologies!

And, yes, he's an elf. Half Chinese, half Anglo, roughly average elf-height (6'2"-6'3" or so, IIRC), skinny (he prefers to call it "lean") build. Short hair, spiked up in the front, dyed (this time) a red that almost matches his suit.

And...yeah. I'm fine with the suggestions everyone's put forward thus far, for background connections, etc, etc. I'm still new to this version of Contacts, so right now I just wrote them all as "3/3" on my sheet (for simplicity's sake), but I'll edit (with Vegas' permission) when I have a little better handle on how they work, etc. Oh, and Julio shouldn't look up to Billy too much. He is still just an early (maybe mid) twenties guy. Just 'cause he's confident all the time doesn't really mean he's experienced enough to be too much of a mentor figure. wink.gif

And, for the record, he's running (from what I understand) a pretty snazzy commlink, with a pretty snazzy basic OS (for no good reason but that he likes expensive toys). The glasses and earbud both have a couple goodies built in, too, so if it comes down to people wanting to communicate that way, it works for Billy if it works in-game. I guess someone can broadcast, text'll get displayed on the glasses, yadda yadda, right?

Oh, and -- last thing -- Billy's not dressed up for this Meet, at all. He's wearing the same old suit he always seems to be wearing. It passes muster, but I figured it was worth pointing out. He's got some serious authority figures that he has to always obey to the letter of the law -- some half-bit Johnson giving up 500 bucks isn't one of those authority figures, so he's half-assing it.

Julio doesn't exactly "look up" to Billy...at least that's now how Julio sees it. He has a grudging respect for Billy's talents, and actually enjoy's Billy's company, though he'd never admit to it.

It's actually Billy who sees himself as Julio's mentor. He is the one who treats it like a master/protege relationship. Which Julio finds really irritating. cool.gif

It just occured to me that I'm telling you how to play your character. eek.gif

I suppose we can just interact and see how the relationships develop...I was just thinking about how neat (and likely comical) that sort of interaction would be.
Critias
Anyone else gonna post stuff? Or should we just bug Vegas to skip to the Meet/upstairs proper?
TheOneRonin
That's fine with me. I'm ready to fast-forward to the meet.
Thanee
Me too, though I will post something either way, when I get home this evening.

And a lil heads up... I'm away from Saturday to Tuesday/Wednesday.

Bye

Vegas
hey guys. i'll try to have the next post up for you all by tonight, and i'm fully aware that many of you will be gone over the weekend, so I don't expect lots of activity.

unfortunately my computer hs a virus, a lovely trojan horse that I can't seem to rid myself of (I'm posting this from my phone) so bear with me a bit as I may have to wipe my drive this weekend after backing up what I can...

I love what you guys have started, and I can't wait to see where you take it.

thanks for your patience!!
Thanee
How unpleasant. Good luck with that.

Vegas's computer has cooties! Eww!

EDIT -- just tossed in a quickie IC post, to bump this puppy to the top.
Mister Juan
I'll be back in "posting mode" tomorrow once I get up. To make a long story short, I ended up working two different jobs friday, saturday and sunday... (one from 7 to 5, the other from 6 to midnight).

So! I'm going to crash for at least 12 hours and get back to ya all!

I'm switching to astral perceptions.

Astral Perception Tests
Assensing + Intuition
[ Spoiler ]

Then I'll read Mr. Erik's aura during the conversation
Assensing(Aura Reading) + Intuition
[ Spoiler ]

Not great rolls but it'll have to do. Obviously there will be some kind of astral security in this exclusive an area, I'm not going to do anything stupid, just look for obvious spells or spirits then read Erik's aura to see if he's being honest and forthright with us.
Critias
If I were of a mind to toss together some short fiction -- and I'm not saying for sure that I while, mind you -- in an attempt to (a) pass the time, and (b) maybe whore for BP or Karma... would you prefer I post it here, Vegas, or back in the recruitment thread?
Vegas
You can post it here Critias, I'd love to read it. smile.gif

@ All

Sorry if I'm slow again today, life is NOT being friendly to me right now. My car was stolen from my DRIVEWAY last night and I'm dealing with that headache on top of not being able to get to work.
Critias
So I'm all, "Hey, gimme build points," like a big jerk, and you reply with "Oh, by the way, someone stole my fucking car." Way to make me sound all shallow. Harpy!

frown.gif Hope you guys find the bastiches.
Vegas
Yup, that was my intention to make you look shallow and like a big jerk nyahnyah.gif

They got the Honda I got in OH... remember that car? biggrin.gif It's probably in pieces and if I'm lucky I'll get my "shit" back that was inside of it if they just wanted it for parts *crosses fingers* but it's not likely.

Oh well, time to go new car shopping I guess. I get to wait 3 weeks before they'll even file my claim as they wait for my car to magically "appear" again. I.E. it ends up in the city impound lots and I have to go find it and bail it out if it's been sitting there and it's driveable, HA! smile.gif
Critias
Yeah, I remember it. Should be paid off by now, at least, right? Or close to it? S'been a while, I don't remember exactly when you picked it up. If they just swiped it yesterday, I wouldn't say it's in pieces already, but, well...yeah. That's probably what they wanted it for. Civic, isn't it? Good luck with the insurance and stuff, if nothing else. How much crap'd you have sitting in it? CDs and stuff, I guess?

It's a bummer, either way. I wish someone would steal my Cavalier. I leave it unlocked, the trunk's full of old Christmas presents I never bothered to take into the house, the backseat's got a bunch of paperbacks I don't like (all boxed up, so it looks like it's full of good stuff), and everything. No dice. frown.gif
Vegas
Yeah it's paid off so I don't have to worry about that headache. Nice 2000 EX with next to NO miles on it. They got a great car nyahnyah.gif I wanted to get a new car, but eh, not this way nyahnyah.gif

I had about 10-15 CD's most of them mixes friends and ex-friends made for me so they're basically irreplaceable, some cell phone accessories, my iPod charger/tuner and that's about it for the "valuable" stuff. The rest was work shit and personal "things"

So this Harpy is off to work (nothing like going to work after all this) for a few hours and then I'll be back to try to post up more stuff/responses and keep my mind occupied. biggrin.gif

Here, have a short story to take your mind off things. I figure this takes place maybe three, four years ago IC-time (give or take). Shows how Billy stopped being a two-bit smuggler/hustler, and moved up to the "big time" of steady (if illegal) employment. Also shows a little of why he's so very very willing to be such a fake-ass all the time, and really not care too much about the people he works with (it's certainly nothing personal).

It was actually pretty interesting, the fifteen minutes or so of semi-research I did on this. Googling "joss paper" after it was mentioned in the Underworld Sourcebook got me to reading about Hell Note Money, and I thought it was pretty interesting stuff. The ritual side of things is a mix of the Underworld Sourcebook details and my own imagination. Fun stuff.
Thanee
I'm back now. smile.gif

Just thought it would be appropriate:

CODE
Alcohol Addiction (Mental addiction)
Dice Pool: Logic + Willpower - Moderate Addiction = 2
Rolls: 4, 6
Hits: 1
Craving resisted.

Well, that could have been strange nyahnyah.gif
