Are any of you running or playing a campaign set before the new edition's starting year of 2070, especially before Crash 2.0, or even earlier, but still using the new system? If so, are you running into any problems, such as dealing with decking versus hacking, or otaku versus TM's? How are you dealing with it? Has it been a smooth transition? Or does the lack of rules governing old-tech become a pain soothed by houserules? Thanks.

Yes, we played SR4 in 2064, and had no issues at all. We house ruled that commlinks (except for a very few) have 0 signal and require a DJ to use and wires to connect Smartlinks and other things. We didn't have any TM or Otaku, and ignored their existance for the most part so they weren't a problem either.

I've been running a SR4 ruleset campaign for about 4~5 months that started in 2055 and haven't had any big upsets. Pretty much what Lagomorph stated, you just have to be physically wired. Took a little bit of time to get going smooth, but it's been a good ride so far. Haven't had any otaku/technos, but I don't think they would cause problems. Houserules are very much on the mild side, really nothing beyond "XXX" isn't available yet, and signal doesn't apply to decking.
