The Green Fairy

Spec's eyes narrowed, slightly. He was getting tired of playing around.

"What sort of 'modifications' have been made to the Bulldog? We need all of the intelligence now, if you want us to stop this thing when it rolls tomorrow."

Chiller smiles, revealing his icicle tusk, at the enthusiasm. He steps away from the group a couple steps to pick a different angle on the room, and the other people in it. He was beginning to wonder if the J was going to actually come along and sit in on the teams planning session, maybe even get in on the tussle. It was looking like they needed the J's head to get all the planning details. A data file was usually easier to deal with then whatever dark things lived in a J's head.

Aziz shakes his head "We're not actually sure what mods it has. I would assume more armor, or something like that." He reaches into his suit, and produces a small disk. "This is a map with the route they're taking from the warehouse through the city. It should... come in handy.", he smiles.

"Now then, I'll give you your advance fee, and you can all be on your way." he says. He disappears into a back room for a moment, and comes back with five credsticks, each with two thousand nuyen on it.

"Right. Good luck on the job, and I hope to see you all soon.", he says, looking directly at Halo for the last part. He smiles and disappears into the backroom again.

“Thank you, Mr Aziz. We will call in when we got your package secured.”

Aeryn takes the credstick and pockets it, then flashes a good bye smile at Aziz and León before she turns around and heads for the exit.

“See you!”

As she watches Aziz walk away and disappear into the back room she shakes her head slowly and pockets her "advance" and turns her gaze onto the rest of the group.

<[Halo] We splitting up and regrouping for a strategy session since time is somewhat of the essence? Might as well start studying that data and the route. I'm sure Billy and I can put our heads together and come up with a good way to divert the traffic and specifically the van to a remote and more desireable location.>

Billy twirls the credstick between too-nimble fingers, slips it into one of his pockets. He figure's Aeryn's said their goodbye well enough, Halo's got Mister Johnson's attention anyways, and he said his part when he scored them all extra-and-up-front pay. Instead of yapping, he just whistles a cheery little aren't-I-just-so-fucking-happy-with-myself song as he strolls towards the exit with everyone else. Then Halo scrolls a bunch of text on the inside of his smartglasses, and he shrugs. Instead of digging his own commlink out, he turns his head and talks over one shoulder, "Let's wait and see if it's still raining. Then figure out where to go, and if we're in a big hurry to get there."

Left unsaid, of course, is the but first let's get out of here sentiment.

Spec nods appreciatively when Aziz produces the credsticks and the data disks. As his latest short-term employer walks to the exit, his eyes follow the figure towards the door.

Seems straight-forward enough, he thinks.

then turns towards Halo and the rest of the group.

Spec looks from Halo to Billy as the group begins to head for the door.

<[Spec] Where to?

oh, yeah...

Does anyone need a ride?>

He was already making mental calculations about how much firepower it was going to take to stop an up-armored Bulldog and two escort cars....

As the group walks towards the door, he fingers the data disk in his pocket.

A rocket launcher would be useful right about now, he thinks to himself.

Remembering the line outside, Chiller responds as he moves the the exit ahead of everyone.

<[Chiller] Cab's outside, holding one, but if someone else has wheels?>

Moving through the door, Chiller steps several meters out, all the way to the edge of the sidewalk, and scans the environs. Moving around in a full circle, and scanning the buildings and rooftops, as well as along the streets. Finally he checks the inside of the waiting cab, then holding the door open, he stands to the side and looks back at the doors to the Green Fairy.

<[Chiller] Clear.>

Billy contemplates, not for the first time, getting some sort of trode rig built into his glasses, or maybe his earbud. He hated being the only poor fucker in Seattle that still had to type into his commlink. Still, it's how all the cool kids were talking, so he might as well go with the flow. Still whistling, he fishes in his pockets for his commlink -- finds, first, his pack of smokes and lights one up -- and eventually tippity-taps out a quick message. Quick, that is, only because of how fast his fingers move.

<[bs] room on my bike, but only for aeryn or halo. aerodynamics, you guys understand.>

<[Spec] Ride with me, Chiller. We can check out this route on the way through the city.>

Aeryn heads out with the others. So far, things went well enough. Hopefully, it would stay that way. Not, that it ever did, but one would still be hopeful nonetheless.

< [Aeryn] I came with a cab, so I would take you up for that offer. I could also need some backup later, just in case, when I'm going to get us some help. Someone skilled in using a medkit might come in handy as well. Spirits, yaknow. >

Slapping the cab roof to signal it's release, Chiller turns and waits for everyone else to come out of the Green Fairy, before trailing the others to Spec's car.

I don't think Halo would let Billy drive if there was only half a bike between them.

Halo exits the club just behind the rest of the group. She was almost hoping she'd have a chance to catch up with 'Ziz, but it was business before personal life now. On her way out the doors she's messaging the crew as she's sending the small group of clubgoers waiting to get inside a nasty glance.

<[Halo] I can open up the garage to a strategy session if we need the space. It's secure enough and we can control just who is in on the planning session. I can at least offer pizza and beer as an incentive. As for a ride, I'm covered.>

Spec glances back over his should at Aeryn then tilts his head in the direction of the car.

Glancing briefly at the assorted clubbers outside, he scans the street as he approaches his Comet. As he approaches it, he says, "Doors unlocked."

There's a torn trenchcoat in the back, and the upholstery is shredded on one of the back seats as well, but overall the car is clean. It sort of smells like your grandma's Crown Victoria.

Grabbing the GPS unit out of the trunk (as he opens the trunk, you briefly glimpse a "shooter's bag" that seems to be containing some sort of SMG and some medical supplies) he gets into the front seat.

Slotting the data disk, he sends the following message:

<[Spec] Do both of you have file sharing enabled?>

Billy whistles as he strolls towards his bike, eyes on his commlink and not worrying too much about who's following him or isn't; Aeryn would ride in a car instead of a motorcycle in case the rain started back up, and he'd known all along Halo wouldn't need the ride he'd offered. His fingertips dance briefly.

<[bs] garage works for me.>

Halo takes the time to transmit to the rest of the team the location of the garage and places a call to the local pizza joint to deliver 5 pies to the garage in 45 minutes. She knew the fridge had beer, assuming Glitch and Acetylene didn't drink it all while she was gone.

The drive from the Green Fairy to her home base was uneventful, but relaxing. The prospect of working again was a good feeling since bills had to get paid one way or another. She easily beat the rest of the team there, taking back roads and avoiding the gridlock in certain areas along the way. Opening up the garage she started a quick once over to assure no one was sleeping, lurking, hanging around that didn't need to be there when the team arrived.

Now, all she could do was wait.

Sliding into the front seat of the Comet, Spec frowned. There were about a zillion easier ways to do this, but he didn't know very much about gadgets any more complex than a headware radio.

He reaches across Aeryn and opens up the glove compartment, grabbing a stack of datachips. He searches through them until he finds the one labeled "Elec." and then slots it in his card reader.

Instanly, several years worth of memories - going to college, building a DIY pocket secretary, the second Crash - flood through his mind. None of them are real.

He logs onto the small GPS unit which he's placed on the center of the dashboard, and slots the data disk that Aziz gave to him in the card reader hooked up to his Metalink.

Instantly, the GPS and location data are displayed to Chiller and Aeryn. Almost absent mindedly, he slots a mapsoft containing a high-resolution Seattle city street map; the map data is integrated into the route information instantly.

As he receives Halo's transimission, he says, "You guys check this out, I gotta drive."

The drive takes about 35 minutes.

Sitting in the car, Aeryn fiddles with her commlink, wondering for a moment, why she doesn't just say the words, considering that who she is 'talking' to sits right next to her.

< [Aeryn] Filesharing? Yes, I think so. That's the default setting, right? >

When the map is displayed and the data Aziz gave them, her eyes are fixed on the small screen, trying to figure out where the location is and thinking about what she might know about the surrounding area.

Chiller hadn't spoken much during the drive. Every few minutes he'd run some visual checks of the outside environment. Mostly he reviewed the data on the route, and thought through a few things. Like how to stop a truck and not spill the beans.

With as the drive dragged on, Spec noticed several things about the warehouse:
  • It was in a convenient location
  • It was well guarded, but the main force of the guards wouldn't show up until later
  • The layout of the warehouse made the idea of a smash-and-grab almost suicidal unless they could pull some major infilitration or were inserted by air.
He made a mental note to ask Aeryn about magical defenses there.

The residential route, he noted as they pulled up to Halo's place, had many very interesting places that he'd be sure to bring up later....

<[Spec]> I looked at the map. Does anyone here happen to have a rocket launcher?

Not bothering to wait for a reply, Spec sends out another message.

<[Spec]> Okay guys, here's the deal. I think the best place to hit this convoy is in the residential section of town, where the road is narrow and they don't have many opportunities to escape. I'm thinking of one person being on the roof with the heavy weapons, at least two of you on the ground to do the snatch, and a getaway driver to take the cargo once we've secured it. I've also got a smart platform that I can set up my MMG on. If we can stop the vehicles in the line of fire of that thing, I can lay down fire with my grenade launcher to take out the other vehicle.... We should talk about this in person, how far away is everyone from the garage?

He popped the data disk out of his comm unit and looks over his shoulder at Aeryn and Chiller

Chiller shrugged and hopped out. Then he flashed a smile and looked at Spec, "Gonna make this tusker do the fetch and carry?"

He looks around the garage, "Man making the meta do all the heavy lifting as usual."

"We'll have to carry away the heavy weapons too, lot of stuff to get together and drive away with."

Aeryn was just about to write a reply, when she looked up and catched Spec's look-around. “Oh...”

“Well, I could help stopping the cars. Spirits can perform a lot of useful tasks, and if their magical defenses are as low as Mr. Aziz said, they could do this pretty good, too.”

After a few more moments of general conversation, Spec looks around.

"Okay, let's be clear on this. We're going to have two groups, one that grabs the loot and one that stops the cars. It looks like me and Aeryn are going to be doing the latter, probably from someplace up top. I think we have enough firepower between the two of us, but getting away might be problematic. I have a lot of heavy gear to lug around, and I'm not willing to lose it for a sack full of coffee beans," he stops, and looks around.

"Any ideas where we can put my MMG?"

He indicates the alleyways next to the residential streets. "I was thinking of these areas, but I need to know where you guys are coming from, Chiller and Billy."

"Or does someone have a vehicle we could put it in?" he asked, directing the question towards Halo.

Chewing on the crust of his pizza slice, Chiller looks over the layout and comments, "This tusker will come from wherever that lead hose not shooting at."

"And thinking maybe we need to boost some wheels for this."

She couldn’t help but grin like the cat who ate the canary from behind her slice. Compared to stopping the small convoy carrying the goods, boosting wheels would be a piece of cake.

“Boosting some wheels shouldn’t be too much of a problem, any specific requests for vehicle type. Depending on who’s gonna be driving, might have a client’s vehicle that might need a little “extra work” to keep it an additional 24 to 48 hours.”
