Do you need Pilot Software for each drone or type of drone, or can you use the same program for multiple drones?
Same with Agents, can you run only one copy of an Agent program or multiple copies?

You would definitely need to break the copy protection on software like that to create duplicates (Software skill). I'm a jerk, I would probably causes glitches to crop up because the programs got cracked. That said, though the rules are silent on this (I think), I wuld say you'd need a different pilot program for different models of drones. The program has to deal with very different interfaces and functions in different drones.

The only thing I could find is in a black text box near the Pilot Program description.
There is a mentioning of a rotor drone pilot program.
Going from there, it's probably reasonable, that you need one Pilot for each type of drone, i.e. each different Pilot skill (Aeronautics, Ground Craft, etc).

I agree with Thanee that it should be based on the piloting skill involved not the model. If you use pilot groundcraft it jump into and rig, then it's the same pilot autosoft as anyother drone that uses pilot groundcraft. If you say that the drones are too different consider that you could buy a skillsoft that lets you drive them all, so why not one autosoft that does all groundcraft.

Once you break the copy protection on the software(s) you can duplicate it into oblivion. I chuckle thinking any Runner would spend time registering their copy of "Norton McDeath Dealer" Attack IC.

The Pilot program is basically the main decision making program with BASIC skillsets in ALL vehicles. When it comes to vehicle SKILLS then you load Autosofts as running programs for your Pilos OS.
Pilot: Operating System with decision making abilities
Autosoft: Actual skill for driving a vehicle
I'd say that any pilot program NOT having the apprpriate autosoft would default - and only groundcraft allows defaulting.
As for copying I'd say that you only need 1 program but you'd probably have to crack it ONCE and then make a gazillion copies - it's simple today so it will be simple tomorrow.

Hmm... you certainly have a point there. The Maneuver Autosoft is surely there for a reason.

I think the distinction between a Pilot and an Agent is similar to the distinction between a thrown grenade and a launched grenade. They have quite similar stats, and cost the same amount, but are functionally different, in that one only works in a machine and the other can't be.
