"It is regarded by enthusiasts of the genre as 'the best and, frankly, only film which manages to mix swords, guns, gangsters, zombies, zombies with guns and swords, zombie gangsters with guns and swords, god-like super-beings, martial arts, assassins, police officers and combinations of all the above into one film set entirely in a forest on a timeline that spans millennia."

I keep expecting C. Thomas Howell and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper to show up in the video. I won't ruin the surprise and specify which one is inexplicably dragging a cross.

well since everyone has a different idea on what a good shadowrun style of movie is out now or going to come out...how about everyone give their own ideas. I got a few you guys can debate and try not to include any personal prejudice to actors/actresses.
I personally did not like versus, but hey i loved the concept, just not the delivery. I do want to see smoking aces. I do have no rule to declare is that Blade Runner not to be put in here because I think everyone can agree that is what started it all and a pretty good movie anyways. alright here we go:
Renaissnce - Futuristic Setting and great amimation and cast, it does not have to do with anything relating to a shadowrun, but it has corps and such.
Johnny Nemonic - it reminds me of the D&D movie that came out. A good idea that just didnt get executed the best way, but I would rather watch that than the D&D movie.
Heat - The shadowrunner team at its core and WHERE IS THE VAN?! THE VAN IS SUPPOSE TO BE HERE!!
It is pretty late at night, but what other good shadowrunner movie can we debate about...

Johnny Mnemonic is more Cyberpunk than Shadowrun; there is no magic in Johnny Mnemonic. Johnny Mnemonic was written by William Gibson, the father of the cyberpunk genre. "I want room service!"
There are a lot of cyberpunk movies. The trick is to find a movie with the magic of Shadowrun.

Avalon is well worth a look. It's subtitles unless you understand polish, but a bloody brilliant matrix-heavy setting.
I'm a fan of Serenity and the Firefly series, and I think that it has a lot of common elements with SR. Although no out & out magic, it does have a psychic, an HMHVV type of thing going on, and a good mix of high-tech and primitive living. Most importantly to me, it has a group of outcasts who make a living by committing crimes while trying to stay a step ahead of monolithic oppressive powers that be.
I'll try to check out all of these great suggestions, though.

I wouldn't recommend Avalon in a Shadowrun context. It's more visual poetry than anything else (such as a thrilling movie). The irony of Avalon is that it's perhaps a beautiful (spectacular visuals) but boring film. But Shadowrun? Eh..I'd sooner say Firefly was Shadowrun in space.

Versus is nothing like Shadowrun, nor is it very good. It's convoluted and absurdly long (not to mention down right boring it parts) for what it is. While most of the action in it is passable, it's still not worth watching.

Man, I tried watching Versus. I didn't get past the first scene where the escapees meet some other felons. It didn't help that it sounded like every male character was dubbed by the same voice actor. Unless their lips were moving I couldn't tell who was talking.
From what I saw (samurai vs. zombies in a forest) it wasn't a thing like Shadowrun. Or at least, like any Shadowrun sourcebook I've ever read.

Dubbing means cutting out roughly half of the original preformance by the actors and replacing it with preformances by (usually) less talented actors speaking in a language that is out of context for the story and trying to sync it with lips originally speaking completely different words … *gasps for air*
Somehow I don't find it surprising that it's a hard thing to do well.

Hey, I've seen some porn movies that had rich and satisfying plots...like the one in which a strangely mature little-orphan Annie has lost her cat and all sorts of people offer to help her find it...or the one in which the pool boy helps the well-equipped household robot initiate an orgy with the majority of the rest of the cast...
Hmmm...perhaps you're right after all...

My advice: watch it three times back-to-back. The first time, do it sober. Second time, bring out the beer. Third time, vodka.
I've heard rumors of a fourth round that involved either LSD or Everclear, but it sounds inadvisable.
(I watch it sober and love every minute, but YMMV)
