Full Version: Glow City gold mine?

Glow City, The site of the former Trojan-Satsop nuclear power plant in the Barrens until it's partial meltdown in 2013. This place is a hidden gold mine for terrorists. No materials available for making a nuclear device, but there would be a possibility of being able to accumulate enough radioactive material to create a Dirty Bomb.

Just some food for thought.

Glow City itself isn't ideal because of its age - you'd only end up with mostly long-lived actinides. The high-radioactivity short-lived stuff would be burned out, or leached out by the rain. And long-lived actinides (uranium, plutonium, etc.) are no fun. Contrary to urban myth, they're not much more poisonous than other heavy metals (lead, mercury).

But I'm sure you could find more entertaining stuff in other meltdown sites. Shadowrun has an inexplicable number of meltdowns.

Of course, that leads to a problem: would any one notice a dirty bomb in SR? ("Oh, more fallout? Which plant melted down today?") wink.gif

Interresting point. However a radiation scare in downtown seattle would definately raise some corporate eyebrows. In big money areas, there is a want to keep it radiation free.

Fair point.

If there was enough there to make a dirty bomb, no doubt the Toxic Shaman who lives there would have built it by now. I forget his name but it's related to the fact his skeleton is so irradiated it glows through his skin, particularly when he casts spell, can't remember his name, it's in the Seattle book...

No chance. It's been 50 years since the melt down. Anything still usable would be burried pretty deep. You'd have to bring in heavy equipment and people in suits just to get it out- you think the locals wouldn't report that activity? I don't mean to the Star, but maybe to a local gang- "Guess where you can boost some good stuff?" The gangs would either report it to a well heeled contact or make enough of a bang hitting the security teams on site that the Star would have to notice, Hell if they were beaten off, they might drop a dime on the activity for revenge. "Well we couldn't beat 'em but the Star's HTR teams have got better stuff"

Shape Earth in the hands of a Toxic Shaman, along with his gang (the Rusty Stilettos?), and a toxic spirit of the Earth...

...or maybe they'd hire runners to snatch the earthmovers from Project Hope...

You can be unique and have a radical cult of Atom worshippers in the same vein as toxics and similar nuts.
