Okay, now, aside from that being one DAMN big bug, does this imply that the queen/mothers (and thereby all) insect spirits are always and constantly materialized? (and therefore take damage from being shot multiple, if not many, times by a very frightened shadowrun team...)

Aside from the Immunity to Normal Weapons power, yes.

No.
True Forms are just like other spirits. In this case, the term "always" means that there are no queens who are smaller or larger and there cannot be any queens who are smaller or larger.

However, one should not forget that one's Astral Body has a volume, just like the physical body does. So a Queen would appear to be a giant insect on the Astral Plane and would be a giant insect on the physical plane if she chose to materialize.

Wait, so they get to be the damn Xenomorphs from Alien, AND they can essentially become insubstantial? Wonderful, makes you wonder what exactly an ares bughunting team LOOKS like.

I would imagine they look a lot like the bug hunting team from Aliens.
Except they're all initiates. eek.gif

I don't know what the Ares teams look like, but I was in a campaign that did a lot of bug hunting. That team was a mage, a shaman, a physad (all initiates), two sammies (fast, heavy armor and big guns) and a rigger (lots of drones with big guns).

Tactics varied depending on the type of bug. Solitary ones like Roaches and Beetles were a lot like the Alien movies where the team went in looking for them. One, if not both of the mages were Astral where they were faster and spells could affect astral Bugs as well as the manifested ones attacking the others, since they were still dual-natured. Both mages had Slay Insect Spirit spells as well as the Hiver Burner spell I developed and can be found on this site in another post. They also had spirit backup with them. All spells used Body as the target rather than Willpower so as to avoid the Queen's Hive Mind ability.

The mundanes and physad would pretty much handle the flesh forms with heavy firepower. They would also protect the mages that were along in the flesh.

Big hives and nests, like those of ants and wasps would be handled with High Explosives. One of the Sammies had a high Demolition skill level and would make a sort of Fuel Air Explosive bomb that would be hused on the hive. It would kill or rattle most of the flesh forms and workers, and take out some of the cocoons.

Also, the team's vehicles all had strong wards on them. That would provide a degree of safety against the Bugs. It wouldn't keep them out and it wouldn't stop them from tearing up the vehicle, but it made it much harder for them to manifest inside. The Reflective Ward that causes damage when attacked was preferred.
