Hello!
I was just wondering if anyone out there has had a bash at adapting the Augmented Reality rules from the 4th edition for use in the 3rd edition?
Many apologies if this has been mention before, but I can’t get the search function to work properly. Maybe someone could point me to an appropriate thread?
Thanks in advance!

Adapting the 4th ed. rules, not so much. Plain ole' augmented reality is available at a modest level without any tweaks to the rules—take an imagelink, a GPS, an orientation system, and maybe a spatial recognizer, add some memory and link them all together. Or hell, Smartlinks—augmented reality has been in the game since first edition, they just never needed to slap a fancy name on it.

Virtual dashboards for cars, imagelinks for displaying chipped data, DNI-enabled equipment like the pocket secretary.... Ironically, the only thing you absolutely had to go catatonic for was the Matrix (read: the Internet). For some reason you couldn't visit a website without turning off your physical body for awhile, though obviously common sense houserules have nixed that long ago.

Tortoise mode. You absolutely could use the Matrix without going full-DNI.
Edit: Virtual Dashboards are debatably not AR/MR, since they're not actually altering any of the information they display, just taking it from the vehicle sensors and slapping it into the user's sensorium.

*facepalm* I can't believe I forgot about that.

Well, there's so little reason for deckers to use it (and really, how often do we have to ask "how are you doing that?" when a character looks up the weather forecast?) that it's certainly understandable to forget

Corrected. Somehow I knew I'd end up grabbing an extra one. Thanks Link. 2 karma.
