Give me a:

Magic Background + Intuition
Occult Knowledge + Intuition
Power Site + Intuition

You don't have to roll them all, but those are the ones that could net results for you.
Cogar
Magical backgrounds + intuition

5 5 3 3 6 5 4 3

Also when he mentions K'tala

Artifacts of power + intuition roll of

6 2 4 5

is there anything else i know from legend of the blade?
adamu
Al will put the chip in his commlink so everyone can access its contents.
Kiedo
Can you go ahead and roll the occult on too, I know your not uber in that area but you might get lucky....

But on to the results of you mental queries as it were.

Scott Valley
No power sites in the valley, or really close to it.
It was however on of the first places Dunkelzahn stopped on his campaign tour and as such is rumored to be somhow important.

The K'tala

This mystic tome is supposed to grant the user an ability to recall the past clearly, and gives hints to the future.

The Sword

The word unfound strikes you as somehow familiar, despite not being an actual word. If you'd like to investigate the stangeness further let me know, and I'll tell you what to roll (though for some of the rolls, you might be defaulting, but it probably worth it).
Cogar
occult + intuition

6 6 1 2

Arcaeological sites + intuition

1 5 4 6 2 3 6

and yes id like to investigate further....
Kiedo
Occult
You remember from Unaussprechlichen Kulten that the ineffable were rumored to have a sect somewhere around scott valley.

Acraeological sites
limited fossil digs but nothing major.

Well your going to have to wait until you have access to the matrix before you can finish your search for "unfound"
GingerKid
Negotiation + Charisma = 3 dice
1,5,5 --> 2 successes

Let me know if you want me to roll individually for each item.
Kiedo
man those are some killer dice....(two hits with three dice, I need some dice like that).

Jack Crawford (Negotiation + Charisma opposed test)

vs. Patch (Charisma 3 + Negotiation 4)
6, 5, 5, 2, 1, 1, 1 (woooh that's too close to a glitch for comfort)

3 hits

But I agree with at least the jacket, so I'll compromise with you, check IC.
adamu
Okay - first off - the LAST thing I want to do is step on anyone's opportunity to say what they want to say.
But speaking only as regards payment - virtually everyone has made someOOC or IC comment about wanting more money, and virtually all of those comments have been accompanied by requests for someone with 'better skill' to step forward and ask for it.
Well, from comments made by everyone but Sebastian (and from what we've seen so far, probably not a face character!), I feel confident in concluding that Ginger Kid's three dice are the best our little band of brothers has to offer. And if he puts those up against Crawford's seven, well, we'll all be lucky if our esteemed GM doesn't REDUCE our pay.
Again - I seriously am NOT trying to rush the roleplaying (Al's sure not going to shut up!), but as regards the fee negotiation, I reckon we ought to just bite the bullet and either just move along or someone take a deep breath and take your best, incompetent shot.
I think we are all eager to move forward!
Kiedo
I'm sorry but, rotfl.gif that's exactly what I was thinking (minus the pay reduction).

This is soooo where a whiz worm would come in handy. Because I was looking at sheets and:

al - defaulting 0 dice (fails automatically)
Gore - defaulting with 3 dice
Patch - not defaulting with 3 dice
Avenger - defaulting with 2 dice
Sebastian - defaulting with 1 die

you guys as a group barely have more dice. Not to poke fun but you guys will be lucky to get out with your watches, lol. I guess, again, it's partially my fault since I created jack and didn't bother to look at your sheets when I did so (well he's an old standing NPC and once a PC, so it was more of an update to SR4). I didn't even think to check negotiation skills for the meet. But Jack is special anyway, he gets all the cool jobs, and is the most like my personality.

What were you guys thinking about money, how much more I mean. Even if you had 30 dice for that test you still wouldn't be getting any more up front, but I might be willing to compromise since you've all been roleplaying so well.
Cogar
What do you want me to roll with as im defaulting, charisma + ?
Rokur
well if I use con, (like a bluff) then i get 5 dice... but that's about as good as i get)

which is why mages with high charisma should be around... nyahnyah.gif
Rokur
oh... and avenger's not leaving yet.. unless crawford leaves.... (but did anyone even answer yes to do it yet?)

but defaulting for negotiation is charisma-1
GingerKid
QUOTE (Kiedo)
man those are some killer dice....(two hits with three dice, I need some dice like that).

My dice are pretty erratic.

They giveth (in this case 2 successes on 3 dice) and they taketh away (I've glitched on 17 dice before).

I was affraid that when Aku left we no longer had anyone resembling a face. Ah well.
Kiedo
Yeah, I was worried about the same thing.
Kiedo
why don't you just suggest to jack the joint price, then if you still want more renegotiate with him once you have a very powerful bargining chip (like Jewel or one or both of the artifacts).
Cogar
3 dice from charisma

1 6 6 (2 hits)

here comes the pain from jacks dice !! smile.gif

Divine Virus
May I ask what inspired you to ask for 3 times the named price?
Kiedo
well here goes.

Jack Crawford (Negotiation + Charisma opposed test)

vs. Gore (Charisma 3 + Negotiation 4)
5, 5, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 (well if I were playing yatzee....)

I'll post something IC, as soon as I hit reply
Cogar
Kiedo can you give me a name of a cafe thats close to the night club were in, so i can get the guys to meet there. its a place that gore would know well as he has been eating and drinking there since he arrived in seattle
Cogar
What inspired me is the information that i know

A book that can maybe tell the future?!

HELLO smile.gif

and were getting 10k a head to get it smile.gif

thats why i asked, he knows that i know what the book can do and what the sword can do because he was surprised when i said it.

Those 2 items and the retrieval of the mark is easily worth more then 10k a head

wouldnt you agree??

Kiedo
Yeah, I agree but there are two things your not considering.

Once you have them, you can renegotiate of price, once you've got him over a barrel (and maybe by then Aku will be able to join in, if he still wants to, so you might have some help with dice)

And you don't have the view of the story that I do, and wouldn't know that there might be some other sources of income, once things get rolling (not to mention I never said what or how much the bonus was for the safe return of the artifacts).

About your restaraunt, you have two choices (well you could always give me a place if you really wanted to).

Chicken Foot Pete's - a family friendly bar and grill open 24-7-365 (think TGI Fridays, or Chili's). Chicken Foot Pete's is a franchise operating mostly in north america, but there are a few locations in other parts of the world (It's like the Outback/McDonalds/Starbucks of my runs, lol,)

The Sombra Cafe - a quiet little patio cafe, with occasional live acoustic bands, and good food. (a new place that just opened up as of Fourth edition, in my runs that is, there is one other location and it's in Houston).
adamu
Okay - most of what Al needs he can pick up at a sporting goods store null sheen, but he needs a license to buy a hunting rifle, and no time to get one. So that is my first priority in the next few hours from 1:30ish when the meet ends.

At an availability of 4R, the Ruger 100 is about as un-illegal as a gun gets, so I just need to find someone that won't ask about licenses, and it seems the best time for that would be at night.

To find such a place, Al gets a cab to the dockyard district, where I will roll my Seattle Dockyards (specialization: criminal activities) to see if I know or can hunt down such a dealer. Intuition + skill + specialization = 9 dice.
In case you want to add/subtract modifiers, I am listing my roll in order I rolled, from left to right, so if you want to do a negative modifier, just take numbers off the right end, or if there is a positive modifier, just roll the dice for me, please (just trying to streamline the back-n-forth of posting).

2 6 2 4 2 4 5 2 5 three successes barring modifiers

IF I find something, I will use Etiquette to introduce myself - and since my search is in the dockyards district, I am hoping the dealer will be from a blue collar background. Charisma + Skill + specialization

Again, the specialization dice are on the right, in case you rule it does not apply.

1 6 1 1

Well, that's a glitch with or without the specialization (though not a critical glitch). I hope that just means they will deal with me but take me to the cleaners, but that is up to you. In any case, you know the ridiculousness of Al trying to negotiate price - so -

IF he finds something, and IF they still want to take advantage of him after the glitch, I can go as high as Y2,500 for the rifle and 20 rounds of ammo.

One thing that I hope will not happen is getting bad merchandise. I will check the rifle (if there is one to check) with my armorer skill -
Logic + Armorer + Maintenance/Repair specialization = 8 dice

1 5 4 2 6 3 5 6 = 4 hits critical success If things actually get this far, maybe Al can win some point back in these people's eyes by demonstrating his encyclopedic knowledge of hunting rifles.

If and when this transaction is completed, and assuming he has any money left over, Al will ask these fine folk if they know where he can get some lockpicks or tranq patches.

I hope you don't mind this style of post - I just am trying to adapt to the online style and streamline the process. Of course I will accept any ruling you make.

After this, Al will get home by four or five for a couple of hours sleep.

Once you let me know how it went I will translate the results to an IC post.

Catch ya, Adam.
Cogar
Charisma roll for my question to the barman:

6 4 2 (1 hit)

If there is a talismonger that is open at that time ill make a note in my commlink and make my way home on foot.

when i get back ill go to sleep wink.gif
GingerKid
Etiquette roll for talking to Stubbs.
Char + Etiquette = 3 dice
3,3,3 --> 0 successes

Negotiation roll so he doesn't drive the price up too high for short notice.
Char + Negotiation = 3 dice
1,1,6 --> 1 success and a Glitch.

Great so I piss him off with etiquette then I glitch on the negotiation. This should be good.

After he gets off the com with Stubs, Patch will do a quick search on the matrix for a sporting goods store that has survival gear. He will buy these:

GPS 200
Flashlight 25
light stick (10) 50
Magnesium torch (5) 100
Survival Kit 100
Duct Tape ???
Standard Rope (100m) 50
Micro Flare Launcher 50
Micro Flares (100) 100

Feel free to knock off anything you feel would be in the survival kit. smile.gif

After that he'll go to the PPR and go to bed.
adamu
Kiedo - up to mischief have I been.

One of the next things I was going to have Al do once we resolved his little night of shopping was, on the way to the next meeting, access some basic public info on this Scott's Valley place, maps, weather, etc. I have literally dozens of questions I need to plague you with before I can hope to make an intelligent contribution to our little planning session.
Well, to save you some trouble, I had a hunch it might be a real place, and I figured whatever I could find in RL, Al could easily find, since he's smarter than me and actually knows a little about computers.

[ Spoiler ]

If this is helpful, cool. If not, just forget it. In any case, we are definitely going to need all this sort of info if we are going to make a decent plan and have any chance of survival.

Catch ya, Adam.
Divine Virus
well, Sebastian don't need sleep for another 44 odd hours thanks to the sleep regulator, so he is going to sit outside the cafe and run a seach untill its time for the meet.

I run my stealth complex form and then start by threading a browse program.
(resonace 6 +software 1+fulll submersion 2=9)
5 5 6 1 1
4 1 1 6
four hits
that was frighteningly close to a botch. I have a browse 4 complex form. soaking fading (resonace 6+willpower 3)
1 1 2 5 6
3 6 1 5
four hits.

No Fading damage.
Now, dice pool for the seach.
thats Datasearch (0)+Browse (4)+FUll submersion (2)-sustained complex form (-2)
so thats four dice. That enough for me to buy 1 hit.
Lets say I get in 6 hours of seaching, all things saidn and done (I beleive the meet was at 8am) searching the whole matrix, so thats a 1 minuet interval. now. 6 hours means 360 intervels. To keep things simple I will buy 1 hit per roll. giving me some 360 hits by the meeting.

Now: optional:
Since I am overclocking, I should have 1 more inniative pass then anyone else possibly could. That means I should be able to search faster. But instead, I would like to use that extra overclockingness to be constantly spoofing my datatrail. I don't even want to image the mechanics of that right now, cause I need sleep. Be back in about 7 hours RL time
adamu
Rokur - the chip with ALL the info - Jack already tossed it to Al, who put it on his commlink and sent it out to the PAN we had up during the meet.

It was just a couple of lines of text IC and OOC (not the chip, but my posts to that effect!), so not surprising you missed it.

By the way - totally off topic - was lurking on another run and saw your lengthy description of the lifestyle of some Native American troll sniper - wow - great stuff (not that our own vengeful ninja thief hasn't been great fun so far as well!).
Rokur
oh.. i thought that chip was just your map that you asked for.... well then i guess I'll access your comm while we're in the room still and download it all if you don't mind.... I don't want to risk having it passed along in a open environment.

PS Also, if wanted and necessary since Patch and Gore have worked with Avenger before... they know they can get their comms subscribed to his, so they are offline but subscribed to me, so they run any mail or traffic through my commlink (thus benefitting from my stealth 6 and firewall 4)
adamu
That's great thinking. Also, Sebastian distributed that file he got by backtracing Crawford's initial commcall to just about everybody - so everybody should have everybody's commcode.
Kiedo
Adam

Seattle Dockyards (specialization: criminal activities)
You know that there is a fixer by the name of Flash operating out of dock 27.

Etiquette
He is friendly but you can tell he doesn't really like you.

Hunting Rifle
He's got an old model, no wifi, that is in desperate need of a little TLC, ie hasn't been clean is quite some time, and as a result functions less than perfect.
final cost: 1200 nuyen.gif (with ammo)
additional notes: until cleaned (using a armorer+logic 8, 1 hour, extended test, it's really dirty) the rifle does 5P and you incure a -2 dice pool modifier trying to shoot it.

Scott Valley

Yeah I used google earth to get such exact lat and longs (and elevation), it's very real, I've been there IRL. But looking at Google earth again I apparently got the elevation wrong, it's actually 3715ft above sea level. You might be looking at a different part of scott valley than I am, but the coordinates I have put it exactly 28.78 miles from the California/Oregon state line. And from the map in the back of the SR4 source book it looks like that conflict area is bigger than 30 miles wide. The location of the place I gave I guess is technically Siskiyou, but I'm thinking it's still in Scott Valley, I'll have to check.

Population -50% everything else, the same

I picked Scott Valley randomly off the map, to be honest, but I am very interested in what you found, I'm going to google it after I'm done, replying to everything.

Yeah but Al can know anything you can find on the place with out rolling a test for it.

Everyone who wanted a sporting goods store

You can a) make a place up, or b) got to Colonel Bubbies, it's a real place, near were I live, but for the purposes of my run it's located in Seattle.

Take 1% (up to 15%) off the price of your haugepage survival kit for each item after the first, so simulate a packaged deal. (ie, 11 items =10%).

Cogar and Ginerkid
I took care of the results of your tests IC so you can just roll with them from there.

Divine Virus
Don't think I forgot about you, I've got to create some mysterious and cryptic sounding search results that include all the information that I want to share. I'm going to give you the results once everybody gets the gear they want, and is at least on the way to the cafe.
Kiedo
Adam, were you by any chance looking at Scotts Valley, because I found a bunch of wikipedia entries about it but none about Scott Valley, which is the location I found.

QUOTE (http://www.co.siskiyou.ca.us/)

Siskiyou County is located in inland northern California, adjacent to the Oregon border. As the fifth largest county in California by area, Siskiyou County features spectacular natural beauty and scenic cities and towns including Yreka, Mt. Shasta, Weed, Dunsmuir, McCloud, & Tulelake as well as Butte Valley, Scott Valley, Shasta Valley, & the Klamath River Corridor.

So it's a simple case of mistaken identity.
Divine Virus
no worries, take your time.
Cogar
edited... whoops wrong place

Also Kiedo

Can i pay a bit extra for the riot shield to have it custimised???

i want to to be retractable, Kinda like the one in PDZ (perfect dark zero)

would you allow that?
Divine Virus
BTW, Kiedo, in addition to the keywords noted by Gore, I am also looking for the names of nodes that might have more information on the sword encrypted, passworded and hidden away.
adamu
Kiedo - ouch - that is exactly what happened. My bad.
I realized it when I saw your mail this morning, and I've spent every spare minute all day at work digging up info on the REAL Scott(no s) Valley.

So I have now compiled lots of great, accurate, not contradictory data for the meet, and adjusted it for the parameters you stated so it will be valid in the game.

Kiedo
Yeah, I was pretty sure you were searching for scotts valley once I found the articles about the "bomb" and computer viruses.

[edit]...And the plot thickens, bum bum buuuuum[/edit]
Kiedo
Ok this is what I'm feeling for your custom riot shield

Retractable Riot Shield
Cost 400 nuyen.gif
Availability: 8R
Ballistic/Impact: +3/+7

notes: Using cutting edge technology this riot shield uses four retractable titanium poles to produce a strong electromagnetic field. While is is virtually useless against natural weapons, such as a wooden club or fist, it is more effective against bullets and alloy weapons (including bone lacing and things like that).

Mechanics: Unlike a normal riot shield this one can be concealed. To spot the presence of the item, the searcher gains a +3 dice pool modifier when retracted. Due to the delicate nature of the electronics it cannot be used as a melee weapon. If it is used as on, roll it's barrier rating, against a threshold of half the wielder's strength.
Cogar
nice ill have a normal one and this one biggrin.gif

joy!!

and i can afford it biggrin.gif
Kiedo
I forgot to tell you, you guys are on the honor system about money, I don't want to have to keep track of all that, sorry.

alright, I don't generally roll for anything a starting character can get, so you've got it as soon as you shmooze Flash. But once the availability jumps over 12( or 8 if it has an R, or 4 if it's F), you've got to start rolling for stuff.

By the way, the search results may not seem to relevent now, but you rolled good so it's fish free (especially those pesky red ones...). I think I might have gone a bit too cryptic though....
Cogar
want me to roll for the Riot shield then ??
Rokur
Kiedo - did you notice my post about watching the footage on the file etc etc? just checking
Divine Virus
Kiedo, do I have that message that Gore pointed out? The one thats supposed to be attached?
adamu
DV - it's right there near the end of the fat IC post Kiedo sent you yesterday.
Divine Virus
Right. I was pretty tired when I read that post post, and I got quite confused. It makes sense to me now. I had to pull an all nighter so my brain wasn't in top shape...

Anyways. I am going to be making an analyse check on that message I got.
So:
Thread Analyse (software+resonace+full submersion*)
6 2 1 1 6 1 5
1 3
Yikes. I don't like how close that was to a botch again. thats 3 hits
soaking a fading of 3
(resonace+will)
6 6 3 5 2 1 4
5 3
and looks like I'm clear.

so Analysing the message at the end.
thats (computer 1+Anaylze 9+ hotsim 2- sustained CF 2)
5 4 1 1 6
6 5 6 1 5

So 6 hits. I suppose I can now forgive my dice for those 4 ones on that earlier roll.

*Its ambiguous as to weither or not threading counts as a matrix action for the purpose of hotsim bonus, rereading the rules I think it does. If I could get a ruleing I would appreaciate it. For ease sake, if it doesn't count scap the dice on the second row.
Cogar
"AH! Good morning, good morning! My name is alex higgins i work for a small magical research facility in the UK, i wish to talk to someone who deals with magical artifacts......"

Chrisma roll : 4 6 6 (2 hits) Also i have a Fake Sin Rating 4 do you want me to roll that too ? as this is what the sin relates to?

"Ah yes! hello, im calling on behalf of thebastion magical research facility, we are in posistion at this moment in time of getting a hands on a artifact of significant magical power, i was researching on the matrix and came across your node stating that if we can return said artifact to you to contact you, obviously we are a magical research facility like your own and would like to make a few notes on the item before signing it over to yourselves, however, is there a finders fee for returning items to the DIMR?"

Charisma roll: 5 4 2 (1 hit on that one)
Kiedo
Hey sorry about not posting yesterday, I've been sick and as it stands right now I have ten saltine crackers and a bottle of sprite in my system. So bear with me if I'm not making much sense.

DV

I'll have to check on that threading matrix action, thing.

But the results of your test:

The Message seemed to have come from your own commlink, I was going to post it IC using the commcode I abitrarily assigned for Avenger's trace, but I didn't think you went to all the trouble of writing down the commcodes.
Rokur
sorry about not being there for breakfast... but there's LOTS of stuff i wanna do... but it starts by reading that file... that I said i was gonna read.... sorry all
Kiedo
Oh, Rokur, that reminds me. Yes, the file has video, from four different angles, including several officers equipped with cyber eyes. You have a total of about 10 hours of video for the 15 minute break out. As I said in my last post, I'm sick, so I'm not feeling up to posting a play by play, but if you want to just wing it here are some details.

obviously what I put up in the first post. She uses no obvious signs of magic. When she encounters and kills the gaurds it is no more than 2 on 1 at any given time. she escapes through the fire exit, in the gaurd shack, and flees on foot.
Rokur
could you tell me... how does she kill them? like punching/kicking? or grabbing their guns... or does she kinda walk by and they crumple to the ground (but that would be obvious magic i guess)

also the file on her? does she have any cyber? what's her tradition? what spells are known that she knows? Her voice patterns? her sign? her languages spoken? known relations? next of kin? etc etc.... it may be time for avenger to go sniffing around this night, but he wants to know where he could do it.

Also, he's looking for any survivors that may have fought her and not died. and whether she talks to anyone before leaving.... or if she picks up the tasers or the pistols or the shields or the stun batons. and where she was headed after the fire exits

Also, I'd love to be able to track where she went, is there still video from after the fire escape? does she steal a car? fly away? this way i can either hack grid guide, or maybe have some lone star security satelite feeds? or something
