Moo-Juice Marathon OOC ThreadMoo-Juice Marathon IC ThreadI'd like to get some practice running SR4, so I thought I'd start a game. After reading many threads that died after the meet or into the planning, I am going to try a few things to keep this alive.
First - plan on posting about daily, or leaving instructions for how you want your character played. If you are unheard from for a week, do not get mad if your character is given to another player. If you really want to play - you will play.
Second - deadlines for coming up with a plan. In the real world time is of the essence. Somehow that seems to get disregarded in many of the games I've followed. You are likely to never know every detail or if you do know every detail, may still think you are missing something. Plan with what you have and rely on your character to handle the curves that come your way.
If you are a person with a fetish for creating characters and seeing if you can get them accepted into a game, then quitting the game when your one trick pony looks useless, or you the player do not see a quick easy solution, that is fine. See my first caveat.
Also, if others see a
problem player trying to submit a character, please PM me. By problem I mean they disrupted or halted your game.
Enough of the sticks for trying to discourage potential problems.
Character creation is standard ratings, availability and 400 points. One run is currently planned. If this goes well and people want to continue, I'll see about coming up with some more. Only if it is fun for everyone!
The run is of the B&E variety. There is likely needed to be a hacker to overcome security, magical talent to overcome any magical security and muscle for the likely combat. If you guys happen to accomplish everything without a shot being fired, I feel compelled to throw in some random violence.

Other character types could be integrated.

I would be interested. The terms don't sound unreasonable. The only problem I see is that I sometimes find it difficult to post on weekends, due to often being away from an internet connection.

Depends on if others want the weekend off or if you can leave instructions for what your character would do.

i am interested, i am not really experianced but i am willing to put forth the effort to play and willing to learn and adapt. i have two models of my character made so far, one for stealth and infiltration lock picking etc. and one that is ranged weapons (and a subvariant being either a sniper or a support gunner depending on what is needed more.) let me know what you think is more needed and i will submit it. also do you want the characters background to be an experianced runner or a beginner?

These forums dont have enough high action shadowruns going on. They are all about people taking days to say how they got from the shower to their front door and still have 50 other things to do before they get to the meet with the johnson.
I think GM's should railroad the group in directions. Like, one of your contacts got ahold of you and told you to come see him. At the meeting you are told of a johnson who has set up a meet at a place at a certain time. As you waste away the hours of the day doing whatver it is you do in your free time it is finally time to go see mr johnson. As you arrive at the location and enter you notice blah blah blah. Asyou begin to ask about this mr johnson you are shuffled into a private back room where you see a johnson, his bounder and several other runners.
players ask questions and negotiate. johnson lays down intel.
Gm railroads players to the start of their run. You describe how they all go there seperate ways and meet up later fully geared up for war or how they all goto their new base and sort things out and you skip letting the players do all the legwork and bonding.
Then you put them all in front of the building or pile them all into a vehichle and tell them to go.
Those full on rp threads are ok but those are the ones that die off. Wow its been 3 months and i havent fired a bullet, taken over a drone or killed anything with my magic woo hooo this rocks!!
I'd love to join with my rigger but i've already started two other characters and its pretty overwhelming at times.

It is a B&E (Breaking and Entering) run, so I am thinking the stealth & infiltration guy would be more apppopriate.

As long as my never having GMed 4th edition is not a problem. I would rather have a noob than an old pro that has helped kill several games.

I'd like to put my name in the hat for this one. I have a neat concept for a sorta ex-mafia muscle guy from Boston. He should be able to hande the "combat" duties.
Do you have a deadline for character submission?
BTW, I can post from work, so Mon-Fri posting is guaranteed. Weekend posting is not a "for sure" though.

i can post from work, and i work from 8-4 est weekdays, also i can post after work and except in the event of a rare camping trip, which its to hot for anyway, i can always post on weekends.
and now for a question, should my characters weapon skills be in pistols and automatics or pistols and sniper rifles, as i can play either.
i am guessing since i will be opening doors and such that i would want automatics.

There is no hard and fast deadline for characters. When I get enough acceptable ones, is about my best answer.
Sniper rifles doesn't seem to fit with an up close and personal infiltrator.

you got it, im going to flesh out my character bio as well,
basically he is a elf from the tir, who worked a number of year for the border partol, before moving up to a member of the black daggers, which is the agents the tir sends out to do shadowruns for it, and he does other shadow work on the side, as well as being a member of the ancients. tell me if that sounds good.

I may be interested in doing this, but there's a possible snag: I will be in the Seattle area on vacation (squee!) from the 5th to the 9th. If the campaign starts before I get back, perhaps I could be late for the meeting or some such? I just need a little guidance to figure out what my character should be like, so tell me quickly which archetype you might like me to play - no elf nymphomaniacs, please - and I'll write up a character sheet ASAP.
EDIT: It's 10:30 here in the US Central time zone, so I'll check this thread again in about an hour.

So far, I have no characters submitted, so none accepted. Like I said, the run is a B&E so the team needs to be able to overcome mundane and magical security. The target is not at all a zero zone, more a private residence.
Deadline for characters (at least a first draft) will be Monday night. This provides 2 work days and the weekend plus the elapsed time to get them done. If we can't go this quickly, maybe this game was not meant to be.

Okay, FanGirl. Physical infiltration expert. Maglocks and other security measures shouldn't be a problem. Stealth's the key.
As for me, I think im gonna go Adept hacker....how's that sound? Thrill seeker Matrix explorer. Scoping out the hidden nodes of the recently wireless web. Like Urban Exploring, but VIRTUAL. I was thinking hackmage before, but I don't want to have to cover two important parts.

Hacker maybe rigger type to overcome mundane security.
Magician and/or shaman to overcome magical security and compliment intrusion with spells and/or spirit abilities.
Muscle for the inevitable violence. (As a consequence of blowing the run or as random violence because people like to blow shit up.)

I don't think that my taking phyiscal infiltration skills will take too much away from FanGirl's character, since she seems to have accepted the proposed archetype. My character doesn't specialize in being sneaky, but he can if he has to. Same with my limited social skills. That way I won't be a dead weight decker.

Ive always wanted to participate in one of these and would love to do so in this one. I'm a little rusty and I have the problem of going to Gen Con this upcoming week. any idea if your game will start after Gen Con? If so then I will work up a character to play and try this out. If not then maybe next time?

Mekalus, I'm going to the con, too, so posting would be light then on my part. My plan was to get the characters in by Monday night, post the run objectives Tuesday, answer questions clarify Wednesday, and let the group plan Thur & Fri. This does not look like it is going to be a weekend posting group, so adjusting start of infiltration to Monday.
That was the plan. So far, 2 incomplete characters with less than a day and a half until first deadline.

Leader of the ancients, good friends with Garrett

Garrett Lightblade was born on September 25th, 2020 in Tir Na nOg. When born his parents recognized his potential at a very young age and at the age of 10 sent him to live and learn among the Elves of Tir Tairngire with his twin brother. At the age of 20, ten years after migrating, he was allowed to join the special forces of the Tir. He spent a further 20 years learning and training while serving to protect the borders of Tir Tairngire against spies trying to get in, outside threats, paranormal creatures and all manner of other things. During those 20 years he outfitted himself with a variety of cyberware, as much as he liked nature and elven society, he liked technology more. In 2050 it was rumored that Garrett got inducted into the Black Daggers, and shortly after for little explained reason, Garrett disappeared from all databases across the world and all trace was erased. Garrett spent the next few years learning the ways of the Seattle and how to fit in. He eventually became friends with the local gang “The Ancients”, and shortly after became a member. He does quite a few runs at the request of the Ancients and the Tir, as he is one of the few who still openly has ties with them.

Okay, I'll make some changes when I get home Wednesday night. In addition to changing the cyber, I was thinking of:

-Giving Judith some skill in Forging fake IDs, in order to help case the joint (e.g.: "I'm Agent Scully and this is Agent Mulder. We're from the FBI; we're investigating some illegal activity that might be taking place in the neighborhood. It's probably nothing to be worried about, but we're still gonna need to check your house just to be safe...").
-Changing the Mr. Johnson to a Street Doctor and possibly bumping up his Loyalty. You want to be able to trust the guy who's cutting you open, and doctors can keep you well-stocked in illicit substances as well (see below).
-Bumping her Mild addiction up to a Moderate one (

ok i goofed, i missed a few things on my character sheet, so i will fix it and re-post it but until i get home to it i will update the little problems.
1. that agility mod is supposed to be an 8 not a smiley.
2. both physical and stun tracks are 10
3. initiative passes are 1(3) because of wired reflexes.
4. i spent 10 BP on the contact total.

This really did NOT look like it was going to happen.
BUT, I ran it at GenCon and it actually works with 4 people, any more and people start getting left out. I don't think that would be as big a problem in a forum game.
Jonathan C, if you want to submit a character we can try to play if everyone else is still interested. The group needs a MAGICIAN. I hope that is clear enough. If not, we will wait for a magically active character (full mage), or a couple of adepts to be submitted. In running this at the con I noticed a group without a magician or a hacker has much trouble.
Samaels Ghost, does your character have weapons or weapon skills? Or was that on an updated copy or am I totally thinking of the wrong character?

If there's still a spot open, I'd be interested in filling the Mage position. Is there any particular archetype or desired spells? I was kind of thinking of a mage that specializes in telekinetic-type stuff, and uses blades for combat, which could lend itself well to an infiltration-type dude.
I'll whip up a char sheet in a few hours to see how well it works.

im thinking a mage with banishing/counterspell abilities would be very usefull for breaking and entering, as well as invisibility silence and maybe a few other infiltration style skills.
