"Shit!" exclaimed Kyle. He stood up straight, then quickly reached down and flipped a switch on the Fairlight Caliban strapped to his belt. His reaction looked like nothing so much as a man suddenly caught naked in public. But an easy grin immediately returned to his face.
"Well," he began, vaulting the edge of the building and catching himself on an exterior drainage pipe; he scrambled down it as effortlessly as a monkey, chatting all the way, "I believe you are who you say you are. So that means you've got a deal with Cerberus. Not me though - I stay out of this Mafia bullshit - for reasons that should be obvious. Right now, though," he said, dropping the last few meters and landing as lightly as a cat, "my personal and your professional problem is that Cerberus is hurt. Hurt bad. Can't say how soon he'll be of much use to you. And as I understood the offer, your end of the deal is making sure he stays alive."

As soon as she had taken a few steps away and turned her back on the group to keep watch on the main street at this end of the alleyway, Sledge had palmed the defiance shocker and made note with a mental marker of the spot she'd have to move to get the upper floor warehouse in range. Ignoring most of the chatter, but making sure to pay enough attention for the key words Fortunato had gone over, she edged towards one fo the walls and hesitated briefly before slouching against it.
you've seen Morris in enough alleyways to know what it looks like. how no one pays attention to a tusker chiphead sleeping it off in the trash.
Sledge slowly slid down the alley wall into a slack position.

The fact that her glasses didn't show any evidence of her hacking anything in AR wasn't lost on him - but it wasn't impossible that she had a cranial commlink that he wasn't being shown. After all, if the girl had had her eyes cut out, who knows what else she's had replaced.
He also cringed a bit at the man's words, but started to head back to his team - he had done his part by staying away from that encounter. Now it was time to get back to buisness.
<<@Team:: "On my way back. Great, both trolls are injured badly. We really need to get them some medical attention, if we're going to pull this thing off. See if you can find out how bad Cerberus is. Can we talk to him? Can he be moved? I don't suppose the doc can look at Rocky's arm?">>

Fine, if nobody here wants to handle this thing delicately, and talk about it like civilized people, we can jump right to the action. Fuck me for wanting to make everyone's lives a little easier.
He decided not to bring it up, in case everyone except Angel had the mistaken impression that he couldn't see and hear everything they were doing. It might give him some better insight into just how far he could trust them when he wasn't around.
He hoped the reminder, that Cerberus needed him a lot more than he needed Cerberus, would hit home and change Will's attitude. As the team chattered on private channels, Smith watched Kyle's reaction to his latest verbal salvo through Angel's eyes. The easy smile disappeared from his face, which started to turn red. He quickly got that under control, however, hardening his features into a dark smirk. He slowly looked around himself, and while he didn't reach for a weapon, his hands came out of where they'd been sitting casually in his pockets. He took a deep breath before answering, and when he did Smith could see that he was no longer looking at Angel but instead keeping his gaze fixed on some other point in the alley.
"All right," he said into the air, assuming he could be heard, "I see how it is. You make all nice while I'm relatively safe on the roof, then when I'm on the ground surrounded by your people you start with the tough talk. Back at the clinic, they told me someone was looking for Cerberus. They asked me to blow you off - they didn't know you and neither did I. But you're right that I'll do about anything for my friend. So I went to meet you. Then I see in the diner you're sitting right next to a Mafia watchdog. Then I go in the can to work something else out, and they send me a feed of your guy here sticking a pen in the receptionist's eye. Well, you'll just have to pardon me if I decided a few more precautions were in order. All right," he takes another deep breath, "I suppose my temper here has probably talked me into a beating - or worse - you'll just have to decide if it's worth the life of at least one of your people."

"Alright, give me a minute."
Fortunato walked up to the troll and poked and prodded his shoulder, which was conveniently at eye level for the slightly shorter than average elf.
A pained expression crossed his face as he studied the wound because this wound was old and the body had started doing its best to form clots and scabs. Fortunato knew that his healing spell required him to know precisely what was wrong with the aura of the patient in order to fix it, and the body's natural healing processes made that harder to discern. The spell itself also limited his ability to observe the wound, which led to negative feedback that eventually limited its effects.
Given the state of this one, and its relative severity, he suspected most of his efforts would be window dressing. The spell would stop the bleeding though.
He looked at Rocky and said "I'm going to be able to do some good, but probably not as much as they can do," as he jerked a thumb in the direction of the clinic. "Also, the spell is going to close the wounds and make first aid impossible, if someone can patch the wounds up a little bit first then you'll heal much faster. That said, I can cast the spell whenever you like." He began a series of wrist stretching exercises, based on the rate the troll bleeding he was going to need to warm up for this one.

Since the situation had calmed down along with Kyle, the young elven woman moved out from behind Rocky's hulking form. She looked over at Mr Johnson as he moved farther into the alleyway, giving him an angry look before turning away from him to look at what Fortunato was doing.
'Why did he have to make Kyle angry enough to want to fight us? It's not like he was even here in the alley if Kyle did start fighting...', Caittie fumed as she crossed her arms infront of her while watching the older elf inspect the troll's shoulder. 'If he is going to provoke someone if I make a connection for him, I dont know if I'll do that again...', she continues as she closes her eyes and takes a deep breath to calm down. As she was getting worked up, the throbbing in her head was getting more painful by the second. After a few seconds of regulated breathing, the pain started to subside again and she opened her eyes to continue watching Fortunato perform his work.
Listening in on what Fortunato was saying to the wounded man, she raised her eyebrows some at hearing talk about spells and healing. "Um... So you can cast spells? Magic and all that? I have... had... a friend that do that...", she said to the suited man, though the thoughts brought up images of Alex, her now dead friend. Feeling a shiver run down her spine due to the images, she hugged her arms around her a little tighter and lowered her head. The past half minute had been rather tense. Being on the receiving end of an officially nasty look from a professional shadow denizen (and possibly an adept) had put Fortunato a little on edge. Angel's interest and Rocky's respect put him in a much better mood than the icy rage he had been ignoring moments earlier.
In response to the teenager's comment he said "Yeah, I do the magic thing." It was impossible for the father in him to ignore her distress; it was almost a physically palpable thing. "You can have a front row seat if you like, I've been told this looks cool."
Breathing out he moved his hands in parallel with the troll's meridians as the graying magic instructor from Shanghai had shown him in the CIA's magical training center. He felt the flow of energy and tried to intuit where the disruptions in Rocky's aura would be. Unsurprisingly they were lumped over bullet riddled shoulder.
A faint greenish glow appeared between his hand and the wound as he understood the local flows of astral energy and shaped them, cajoled them and occasionally forced them into swirling patterns that he could feel on his palm. The glow settled over the largest section of Rocky's torn flesh as Fortunato's hands moved slowly across the wounds. Sweat drops rolled down the elf's forehead as astral feedback poured from the wound; the mana was demanding balance, one harmed for one healed.
This process went on for a full thirty seconds and with each pass of the mage's hands over the wound it grew a little shallower and a little harder to fix. By the end of the half minute the changes were merely cosmetic and Fortunato stepped back. It wasn't bad work.
"Should be about all I can do for you," he said to Rocky. "I'd warn you to stay off of it, but I've seen people jump straight from being healed into firefights, I think the warning is kind of hollow."
He breathed out heavily. A headache was gnawing on his prefrontal cortex. Not serious, just aggravating.

Watching Fortunato examine the wound on Rocky's shoulder, she noticed Kyle moving past them towards the entrance to the alley. She heard him and Johnson starting to talk behind her, but ignored them both in favor of watching the mage perform his spell. She was interested in how the wound grew smaller each time the elf slowly waved his glowing hands back and forth over it.
When it was all done, she smiled at Rocky as he worked his shoulder to test it out, though she noted how he still looked ill. Looking towards Fortunato, she asked, "Um... That was pretty cool. Thanks for letting me watch."

Turning his attention to his team after Angel speaks up, Mr. Johnson sees that Rocky still looks pretty bad and adds, "Maybe the Doc could give you something to ease the pain at least. We're going to need you functional, fast."

Without waiting for Smith to finish his conversation with the troll, Kyle Sanders said, "Okay hotshot, time is money. Let's go see what the doctor orders." He turned and led the way out to the street and started up the last few dozen meters to the warehouse/clinic. As Smith followed he heard the roar of Sledge's Harley just as a message came in informing him that she and Fortunato would be scouting the perimeter. Rocky caught Smith's eye and tapped his commlink, letting him know he'd be on the net before slipping into a smaller, darker alley that branched off the one they'd been in. Seeing everyone else take off, Angel shrugged and followed the two humans up the street.
Arriving at the clinic, Kyle opened the door and went in. Following, Smith and Angel saw the beehived receptionist, apparently none the worse for wear, plucking her graying eyebrows as a cup of tea steamed next to her. A slovenly-looking ork security guard sat on the right side of room sipping some strong smelling soykaf. He looked like he might keel over at any second, and gave Smith a venomous look.
Passing through an interior door, they entered what appeared to be a very large plastic tent, separated into two stories by a floor of sheet metal sitting above them on scaffolding. The bulk of the space they were in was hidden by hospital-blue partitioning curtains. On the left, against the wall, an brown-skinned elf with Indian features sat with an elaborately moustachioed dwarf at an array of security monitors.
Kyle led the two would-be shadowrunners to the right down a passage between curtains on the left and some only slightly sturdier looking plasterboard barriers on the right. A woman in a nurse's uniform emerged from the curtains on the left and passed by them disinterestedly. Kyle knocked on the plasterboard to the side of a curtained opening, got a "Come in," and went through.
Inside, the two men and the elf girl stood facing an older fellow in a white jacket. He wore a Cascades Wine & Run T-shirt under the coat, and sat behind a very nice desk/workstation. He motioned to some metal folding chairs and introduced himself simply - "I'm Doctor Cline."

While being lead through the clinic, Mr. Johnson looked around quite a bit. He had never been in a black clinic before but, given his new line of work, he didn't think this would be the last time.
He smiled at everyone, and nodded with respect, despite their glares and looks of disapproval.
Man, what did they do here....
The situation didn't seem like anything that put Johnson out of his element, though. He was used to Franco sending him to talk to people who had every reason to be cautiously hostile initially. More than once, before the night was over, "Mr. Smith" had them laughing and sharing drinks. Of course, at least once, "Mr. Smith" ended up in the hospital - so he wasn't going to let his guard down yet.
After Doctor Cline introduced himself, Mr. Johnson stepped forward and offered his gloved hand, unsure if the doctor would accept it. "... Johnson." After a slight pause he added, "...and I would like to apologize for any inconvenience that my Shadowrunners might have caused you or your staff. If there is anything I can do to make reparations - say the word. In fact, I am fairly certain we will have an opportunity to make it up to you very soon...."
Realizing that the man from the alley probably intended to make introductions, Johnson backed off and let him speak up.

But all Kyle did was grab a chair, unfold it and sit down. The doctor, however, was quick to respond to Smith's overture. "Why wait? We can talk reparations right now. Have a seat." He didn't seem angry, but it was clear he knew what he wanted. Once everyone was seated, he said - "Your people caused me and my security staff a lot of trouble, even after we tried to be accommodating. I think Y2,000 would clear the air, help us let bygones be bygones keep everything professional. If I don't ask for that, it would be an affront to my people to continue dealing with you, and it would set a dangerous precedent. Then, if you agree to that, there has been some question of who will be paying for Mr. Cerberus' treatment here - he seems to be without resources. I think clearing the bill for services rendered so far - that would be Y750 - would also go far toward opening my mind to whatever else you may wish to discuss."

Cerberus's bill was a little high, but if he was as tough as he had heard, he was worth every penny.
He absolutely did not believe that Kyle brought him here without any way of paying for his treatment - but he wasn't about to bring it up. In fact, letting it go quickly might make him seem a little more generous, or willing to make amends.
At the very least, having no idea what it was that

Johnson smiled and nodded to assure the Doctor that the terms were acceptable. At the Doctor's question, he considers how best to approach this delicate topic. "Doctor Cline, I am sure that a man of your profession doesn't ask a lot of questions of his clients... er, patients. I can respect that, so let me shed some light on the situation without you having to ask. I'm afraid it is a bit of bad news, but I believe you have a right to know."
Make this quick and painless....
"As I am sure you know, someone shot up Cerberus pretty badly. What you might not know is that this wasn't random street-violence - it was an ordered hit. Someone rather powerful, a man named 'Louie Finnigan', wanted Cerberus dead... and still intends to see the job done, properly. Unfortunatly, I don't believe he will see your clinic as much of a barrier - in fact, patching poor Cerberus up would likely be taken as an act in direct opposition to his desires. That's a bit of bad news, for you."
"Secondly, if I was able to track Cerberus down here, I am certain he was able to get the same information. I honestly expected him here about an hour ago while your staff was taking understandable, but time-consuming, precautions. In fact, this man..." Johnson gestured at Kyle, "spotted one of his goons at the diner down the street where he went to meet us. I am most certain that another squad of hit-men have already been dispatched to this location. That is more bad news, for you."
Better get to the 'less-bad' news quickly....
"The reality is, whether or not we get Cerberus out of here, as far as you are concearned, the damage is done. When those guys show up looking for him, they will be unlikely to stop shooting long enough to ask notice their target isn't here, and if they DO ask questions, it won't be politely, and they probably won't believe you. However, I think we both have resources available that allow us to help one another out - and hopefully you will agree."
Get to the chase....
"I happen to have an interest in seeing Cerberus live through this, and I would like to help him settle his score. I have a handful of Shadowrunners at my disposal that, as you may have noticed, are a little bit anxious to get to work, and have already agreed to do the job that needs doing. You have a good number of mobsters en route to your clinic, that you would certainly like 'stopped'. Cerberus isn't in any shape to fight off a second attempt on his life, but has already done his part by being bait. I've upped the ante by locating Cerberus's partner-in-crime and the girl they threw their lives away for. If the man who wants them dead takes the bait, and shows up himself, we can end this right here, but even if he doesn't, we can convince him that the second attempt on Cerberus's life has failed, and that he has moved on."
Too many words...
"To put this simply, Doctor. Things don't look good for either of us right now. I believe your clinic is in danger, as are the lives of my Shadowrunners. Currently, Cerberus and Rocky are both wounded from previous attempts on their lives - and neither of them are going to be able to defend themselves." He puts his hands together, "Together, I think we can get through this with both of our professional interests intact."
"Do you agree that our cooperation is the best course of action?"

Ignoring Smith's question, Cline turned to Sanders. "You saw a Finnegan man at the diner?"
"No, no." Kyle waved away the question. "It was just Arty. But I'm sure he got plenty on this bunch."
Cline seemed relieved. "Mr. Johnson, I think you have overestimated the threat - maybe not to Cerberus, but at least to my clinic. The man at the diner is attached to the Bigio crime family. He is there because I pay for him to be. This clinic is in the heart of Bigio territory, I pay them serious protection, and they get all the work for their soldiers done here. And although they nominally take their marching orders from Rowena O'Malley these days, believe me, the Finnegans won't violate their jurisdiction here lighly. Neither are they likely to share Arty's information with any of the other families. I have no doubt poor Cerberus' days are numbered, I cannot imagine any direct action being taken here.
"That being the case, I can see no reason to invite more trouble by allowing you to turn my operation into the OK Corral. Listen, it'll be several hours before Cerberus regains consciousness. Why don't you let me have Kyle here put him in touch with you once that happens?"

Mr. Johnson shrugged, hiding his disappointment with the Doctor's reaction. For a brief moment, he had convinced himself he might have had a good reason for the Doctor to help him out, but could now feel the advantage slipping from between his fingers. "Fair enough. If you're convinced of your safety - so am I. And if you're safe, I trust your patients will be, as well.... at least until they step outside."
"I would appreciate it if Cerberus were to give me a call before he leaves the relative safety of this place. We'll be close by, just in case either of us are wrong." He considered negotiating for some treatment for Rocky before giving up, but wasn't sure how bad the wound was anymore. Fortunato had done some magic back there in the alley, and Johnson had his attention on Kyle at the time. Subvocally, he spoke to the group - a little curious if it would automatically be directed to Kyle - but he didn't really care. It was faster than typing it out.
<<@Everyone:: "Rocky, do you still want the Doctor to take a look at your arm?">>
While he waited for the troll to respond, Johnson put his briefcase full of cash on his lap, and began counting out the Doctor's money.

As Smith made his call, the doctor apparently received one - his eyes took on that distant look of someone accessing AR, and he spoke quietly, "Thank you Mildred, patch him through please...Yes, my friend....I am very sorry to hear that....yes, that sounds serious....I don't need to ask you if your six is sterile....ninety seconds out?...We will be expecting you. Can you walk him in?...Good....Ninety seconds, then."
The doctor looked up. "Well, when it rains it pours. It appears I have new patients inbound. People that are known to me. And time is of the essence. Please just leave the cash on my desk..." At which point he stood and began manipulating an invisible AR image, now thoroughly ignoring them. "Becky, I'll need you to access Patient 32-double-A's blood type and pack...."

Hunkered on the Harley behind a huge dumpster, Sledge and Fortunato continued to watch the dirty brown van. It looked like it belonged in the area, except that the cab window were tinted black - not in itself suspicious - but something had set Sledge on edge.
They were about to call it good when a hatch in the roof opened up and a tiny helicopter sporting what looked like a less-than-tiny gun took off into the sky, climbing until it was out of sight in the low cloud cover. Then, without warning, the van roared to life, turned a corner, and peeled out down the road in the direction of the diner and the clinic.

Johnson stole the words right off the matrix, since he didn't know enough about the scene to rephrase them. He was half-convinced that the van belonged to whoever called the doctor a few seconds ago, and that he already knew about it, as well. But the "serious air support" thing had him worried. He moved to exit the room, but went slowly, allowing Kyle to follow, if he was going to, and giving the Doctor time to ask further questions. At the door, he said, "Of course, I am sure you're capable if handling this yourself... but if you change your mind - here is my number." Then Johnson sent his number to Kyle and the Doctor, giving them a moment more before letting himself out.

Caittie sat listening to Mr Johnson and the doctor talk back and forth. The knowledge that the clinic she was sitting in paid a mob off for protection and regularly treated the mob for injuries made her uneasy. She got a little confused though when the topic continued to discuss how this place was protected from the mob Fishbreath was in by another different mob. The teenager had never heard of anything about multiple mobs in Seattle, just the 'Mob'.
It was also disturbing for Angel to find out that almost everyone she has met since the whole incident had some sort of connection with one of the mobs. Luckly, her train of thought was derailed a bit when her eyes went to the suitcase full of money that Johnson produced and while he counted out the agreed upon amount of 'restitution'. Her eyebrows were raised during the whole interaction since it seemed straight out of a trid movie, but she was shaken out of it and her worry about the mob by Fortunato and then Sledge's messages.
As she listened in, Caittie watched Johnson lay a stack of money on the doctor's desk before moving towards the door. Seeing this, she also stood up, picked her backpack up off the floor and moved towards the door, following Johnson out without saying a word throughout the entire exchange.
Stepping outside of the small office, she spoke up over the team's network, responding to the request for matrix support. <<@Team :: Ok, I'll see what I can do. Sledge, thanks for the map, it will help out a lot.>>

Standing, Doctor Cline nodded in acknowledgement of Smith's commcode and, sweeping the cash into an open desk drawer, held the door for his guests.
Kyle wasted no time on pleasantries, leaving immediately.
The doctor said, "One of my customers is a rigger. They are very careful not to lead anyone here, so I'm sure it's nothing to worry about." But looking into the man's eyes, Smith was not 100% convinced the doc was 100% convinced. Still, with a wave of his hand, the man said, "I'm sure they'll be here at any moment, so I'll show you out."
"Thank you, doctor," replied Smith, but as soon as his host had his back to him, he quickly typed, <<Best let the drone be for now - if it's hostile, this doc needs to see that for himself.>> Then he said, "So between the Bigios and your own people here, you seem to be ready for anything." And even as he said the words, they were approaching the clinic's makeshift security station - stacks of monitors leaning against a cacaphony of fiber optic bundles that told him there was almost certainly no hacker in the house - where the two men he'd seen earlier still sat. Their boredom stood in contrast to the hurried activity of a handful of nurses that bustled in and out of the curtained area in preparation for the incoming arrivals - the moustachioed dwarf yawning widely as the Indian elf absently twirled a heavy pistol on one finger cowboy style while balancing a silencer on the tip of another finger.
"Oh, we're not the Heywood Clinic, but I assure you my staff and patients are quite safe here," assured Cline as he opened the door for his two guests. Smith saw Rocky enter and then almost immediately shrink his huge frame back into a corner as a brown GMC Bulldog screeched to a stop outside the still-open front door. The rear doors opened and two men hopped down together, and one helped the other toward the door. The left leg of the one being helped was drenched in bright, shiny red, which matched the T-shirt he wore under an olive drab armored jacket. His head was shaved and he looked pale as a ghost.
The man helping him was huge, although his form was draped in an armored jacket as well - black, like his shirt and trousers.
