The ground rules:
[ Spoiler ]
320 BP.
Caps on chargen qualities are 25 positive/negative.
The last stat point does not cost 25 BP but 10.
Skills and stats can all go up to 6 without penalties, but only one at 6 or 2 at 5.
You can spend all your BP's on stats, if you'd like.
Skills are capped at 4 normally, 6 with Aptitude.
At chargen, skills cost 2 BP per point, groups cost 5 BP, and stats cost 10 BP.
After chargen, skills cost the rating you want to raise them to, groups cost twice the rating, and stats cost 3 times the rating.
For cash for Karma, skill karma costs 2,500

, stats cost 5,000

, and you can't buy Edge or Magic with cash for karma.
Orichalcum now allows you to shave 2 karma per unit off of bonding costs. You can buy half a unit.
Creating a focus from scratch, harvesting all the telesma for a focus, designing the formula, and enchanting it using materials you collected and made radical, will reduce the karma multiplier by 2. So power foci will cost 6 times the force instead of 8. But this is only if you do the whole shebang yourself. Otherwise, you get no odd benefits. This means sustaining foci will be completely free if you do this. Of course, "free" means 3 months of designing, harvesting, and enchanting.
Each exotic telesma you integrate into the focus that isn't there to pay off a critical glitch reduces the multiplier by 1. Finding one is an adventure in and of itself.
Complex forms come in at Resonance and level up with Resonance. They cost 3 BP and 5 karma. They balance against hackers because hackers can shoot technomancers in the head.
You get charisma in contact BP for free.
Magic is capped at 4 at chargen no matter what. It's capped at 6 out of chargen and is raised by initiation as normal.
Availability is now limited to 10.
This will be a very street-level campaign. Your network of contacts will be quite limited, and you'll have to scrimp and save for every little advantage. Nevertheless, it will be AWESOME. *DBZ powerupping*

Tempting... tempting indeed... could be a good venue for Tim "Boingo" Whitestead after his first encounter with Humanis, when he was hiding out from the good old boys. Tim's an elven adept, handy with a baseball bat, came upon a few Humanis thugs playing games with a young ork gal and decided it was time to man up and play ball with their skulls.
He's not a bad guy, just a bit demonstrative. Left home to keep his parents safe from retribution. Can cook him up tonight, if I'm feeling lame in L.A. which I should be on the road to travelling to now.
...so I shall be.

bah, i can't help it... you've got me interested. hopefully i will be able to keep up with the rate of posting on this game... should have something up in a day or two.
i do have some questions, though.
1) is resonance limited same as magic?
2) skill groups at 4 acceptable?
probably gonna make a TM, most likely a little bit rigger-ish.
further question... supposing i was to have a resonance (or, i suppose, magic) at 5, reduced to 4 by cyberware or something. would that be acceptible, or would it have to be 4, reduced to three?

i assume this is a different game? he doesn't say anything about IM game, meeting on sunday at 12, or anything like that in this thread, and on top of that, his IM game link in his sig still points to the other thread.
i suppose he could have just forgotten about all that, but it seems unlikely.
[edit] in fact, upon closer inspection of his IM game thread, he seems to have mentioned something about starting up a forum game (i assume this one) separate from the IM game. and also, never says anything about the IM game being cancelled. my best guess, therefore, is that he is running both games, plus his game IRL. it's a GMing marathon, how many simultaneous campaigns can emo samurai run? step right up and make your bet, folks

[/edit]
[edit 2] i am further going to speculate that grinder will have a spot reserved in this game

possibly as a drop bear surfing ninja pirate. [/edit 2]

I'm cancelling my RL one and keeping up my IM and forums game. My local players are really annoying.
Should I make another AWESOME game on Welcome to the Shadows, too?
For Resonance, it'll have to be 4 reduced to 3, and it's capped at 4.

ok then, i'm gonna be submitting Swarm shortly

as i was planning, orkish technomantic drone commander/rigger.
and now, some more questioning: would you consider some non-core drones? specifically, i'm thinking something that would be useful for remote use of various technical skills (that is, it would have something similar to a weapon mount, only you could attach tool kits for remote use of skills... ie, construction robots, vehicle repair robots, demolition robots etc) along the same line of questioning, would you consider autosofts for such skills also? (presumably these already exist in concept, they just aren't statted out in the BBB... my personal guess is that the most probable design is anthroform, either two or four legs for climbing stairs and such. would probably set the cost and stats equal to the autodoc, only instead of a medkit it comes with one toolkit, and you could buy extra toolkits).
(and hopefully i'll be able to squeeze in the cyber i need for the concept without losing 2 points of essence, and therefore resonance...

)
[edit] oh yeah, and another piece of gear i was wondering about... basically an autoinjector type device, but external (you just strap it on to your body and it can dose you as needed). probably uses DMSO slap-patch type design (or possibly just a one-use slap patch that applies DMSO when you tell it to) and if i could get a price on that, too, that'd be handy (assuming you allow it of course) [/edit]

ok emo, where do you want the numbers? at any rate, here's the background (there may be more, the backgrounds come to me over time, and i don't necessarily remember it all when i write it out officially. if you have questions, ask and i may have an answer ready)
and wow, is it ever hard to fit the concept into a measly 320 BP... he's definitely got some room to grow

[ Spoiler ]
Swarm (real name Paul Johnson) started off working for Renraku. Initially he was hoping to get into the Red Samurai, or to work as a spider, and had started job training in appropriate fields to reach those goals, but was denied any of the more advanced training (he wasn't naturally gifted enough) and instead got stuck in a dead-end security job guarding a minor facility (he didn't really understand his technomancer abilities at the time, or their value). over the next years, every nuyen he got that didn't go to basic needs went towards furthering his abilities in those two areas, resorting even to the use of cyberware in spite of his technomantic abilities
unfortunately, while he was still young, disaster (for his career at renraku anyways) struck. He goblinised at the age of 27, and was placed in a lab during his change for study by researchers (cases of goblinisation are getting rarer all the time, and are therefore harder to find cases to study) and during examination by awakened personnel, they discovered he was a technomancer. having heard horror stories about technomancers being experimented on, when swarm discovered they knew about his abilities he used his sprites to get into their records to check up on their plans for him, and found out they were planning on running some "tests" on him (incidentally, they wouldn't have been dangerous tests at all, but he thought they were, which was enough to cause him to act).
during a runner break-in of the facility, he used his drones to escape while the security forces were distracted, escaping with a number of his drones. he has been hiding for the past few months, worried renraku would be looking for him (they aren't really, but he has been blacklisted for his disloyalty in leaving, and unofficially for being an ork, and is technically a criminal for breaking his contract. he's just not worth the effort for them to track down as long as he's willing to go to any effort to hide).
he has just begun to get himself set up in the shadows, and is now regretting the time he spent using skillwires instead of practising his skills on his own (but the old skills will hopefully come back... he got rid of the skillsofts, they were renraku produced, and he was worried about them spying on him or worse)
i still have some work to do on it (i often focus so much on the runner, i forgot to think about what contacts they have and such), so the contacts may change in the next couple of days while i think about it (but then again, it's not too hard to work in the contacts i chose either, so they may stay the same. certainly, i will be adding in a little bit more about his contacts, unless you prefer that you control that.

This looks like it could be an interesting game. I've got an elven adept who would probably fit in pretty good. She wouldn't be redundant with Digital Heroin's, either, since she's more gun-oriented than melee-oriented. So like Jaid said, where do you want them? Here in spoiler tags, PMed to you, or something else? Also, will the runners start out knowing each other, or be relative strangers brought together for a job?

Here's my background,
[ Spoiler ]
Sharky was born on the street. Never knew his parents and all that stuff. Well, sucks to be him. He wanted to join the local gang when he was younger, but he was frail and not fit for street fighting. At the same time, he started to listen to goblin rock and his favorite band was The Eleventh Toenail, an all-ork gang. In was only a matterof time before the young, uneducated elf started to idolize the strength and musical talent of these orks. He even dreamt of being like them one day, and did everything he could to reach that goal. He started to exercise on a regular basis and developed an impressive muscular mass for an elf. With minor biomodifications, he was also able to look like an ork fairly easily and was accepted into the ork underground, where he joined an all ork gang and started to kick some asses as sprawl ganger. The leap from the street to the shadow is really easy.

any word on those two possible items emo? or is the plan to wait for either hell to freeze over or arsenal to come out (whichever happens first) and make a decision then? (the point being: those seem like the kinda stuff that should already be included in arsenal, hopefully).
emo samurai
Nov 22 2006, 01:50 AM
Oh, I forgot about those. Sorry.
Yeah, the drones are okay, you'll have to buy separate autosofts for them. I mean, if you have skillsofts for complex muscles, you've got to have autosofts for simple robot arms with 3 points of articulation. They'll cost the same as normal autosofts.
The DMSO patch will cost twice as much as the equivalent slap patch, but will activate with DNI input.
Jaid
Nov 22 2006, 02:19 AM
k, i'm not gonna start with any (because the nuyen shuffle is a crappy dance!), but i will definitely be including that into my future goals

the DMSO patch is not so much for standard chemicals btw... i am considering the possibility of using in case of battle to keep my character alive (combat drugs, basically). can't see why security forces would use anything else (i mean, hmmm... one dose of jazz every time something happens, in a hands-free quick use format... OORRRR! we can give everyone 11,000

implants to be able to not instantly die when even the crappiest runners show up)

Hey, I've been lurking this forum on and off for a year or so. I've just come back, and I'm going to try and stop lurking. XD I'm a novice Shadowrunner (in fact, I've never played a SR4 game, so bear that in mind if you decide to accept ^^;; ), but I'd like to try out anyway.
My concept is an ex-military, possibly special forces, slag (with an dark, shady, [insert another hue of "dark"], and possibly emo-ridden past, of course) who's burned out on [drug to be decided] trying to get himself back on his feet the only way he knows how. A shady past, a depressing, midnightted present, and the possibility of a brighter, shady future kind of thing. I have in mind a human tactics and weapon-specialistesque type person.
EDIT: Well, looking at the qual/neg a little closer it seems I couldn't do burnout, but I could have a severe addiction, which might work just as well. ^^;;
I'll send out a charsheet as soon as I get it banged out, if you're willing to accept me.
Jaid
Nov 22 2006, 01:35 PM
gonna be hard to do a proper special forces character on 320 BP though. ex-military might be possible, OTOH.
still, you never know... tight squeeze is different from impossible.
bishop186
Nov 22 2006, 01:52 PM
Indeed. I ended up just going ex-military in the end, with a little flavoring. It's actually amazing what you can do with 320BP, especially with what he gave us for skills and stats. ^__^

yeah, just you try making a technomancer

actually, had i gone for a more min/maxed TM, i might have been able to pull off something a little stronger... for example, none of his 'ware is terribly useful to a TM, and he could probably benefit more from the point of resonance. similarly, had he focused pretty much exclusively on being able to pilot and shoot, rather than being still capable of hacking (whilst threading, that is) and also being the guy who can fix his drones... he would have probably been a lot scarier.
on another note, emo, i just noticed i forgot to include some BTLs to feed his habit

i'll probably just drop a few rounds of ammo or something.

ok, last second touch up, don't want to overfill your message list emo

[ Spoiler ]
here's the plan: dumping 100 normal assault rifle ammo (200 nuyen) for a moodchip (~50? 'sunshine' chip) and a P-fix chip (~150?) which preferrably mildly overlays his actual personality. the basic idea for the P-fix is to make him still in control of himself, but change his habits a little bit, if that's ok. he would have used it to make himself harder to track (he's a little paranoid... which is probably good)
also, is it allowable to start with programs cracked or not?

Is the format ok Emo, or do you prefer something more along the lines of full-fledged headers? (and on a side note, i'm not sure how to reflect speaking in AR, so i just indicate with words he's thinking it for now. i'd color code or something, but it seems that would be a little distracting.)

[edit] that being said, i usually seem to fall behind on posting because the other players post like 50 times a day, so i guess i shouldn't complain about actually being able to keep up with the rate for once

also, it's kinda looking like this has turned into the 'official' OOC thread for the game, but if you would prefer i can keep the rolls in the IC thread spoilered in the future... [/edit]
