I know nothing about alcoholic drinks in real life, unlike my character, so I need to call upon his skill for ordering an appropriate red wine, Logic + Etiquette + Alcoholic Drinks. 11 dice, 1 success. Might get too cheap or too expensive, but at least it will be red.

We'll assume he can order appropriately.

I've been holding off, waiting for other replies, but I'll move things along tonight, and folks can catch up, if they are still of a mind to play.
crizh
She's deposited an RFID tag on the back of both runners hands. Both tags are slaved to the comm-link of the hands owner. In AR they appear as little glass stoppered bottles with a little hand written label.

Drink Me.

If accessed contains a small text reading

'Run this, it will create a temporary private network that is as secure as I can make it.'

and an executable of quite ridiculous proportions.

The text also lists the comm-code of Granny's one-shot.

@DWC

One of the things you'll find is a file containing a network map of the nodes in the club that two of the IC constructs in the Nexus have been compiling for a couple of minutes. Even buying hits they should have mapped out every node that has it's wireless turned on by now.

All common use programs are available at Rating 6. If you want any hacking prog's or to re-task IC to, for example, attack a networks signals encryption just give Granny a buzz.

You'll also find a Rating 2 TacSoft package available for download if you have any use for it....

BACKGROUND
Sitting on the couch watching television, not a care in the world. After all, what child that young has worries? Hearing a crash, he jumps in suprise of the suddenness of it.
Curious, he moves to investigate the noise. Cautiously moving to the kitchen, he hears several more crashes, quieter in sound. Scared, he barely peeks around the corner and seeing the kitchen torn apart he steps in a little further. Seeing his mother lying on the floor, so still and all that blood, he screams, "MOM"!!! Suddenly from the other
side of the counter there is a sharp thud and he hears his father's voice, "RUN, RUN NOW"!!!!!!. Frozen in terror, he stands there as his fathers head pops out from behind
the counter, he again tries to tell his son to run. All of a sudden a shot rings out, and his son jumps again. Unfrozen by the shot he runs in terror, not thinking about
where or not knowinghow long he ran. The only thing in his mind is the image of his father, one moment looking at him, the next a splatter of red and white on the wall. The
entire moment just keeps replaying over and over again in his mind as he runs.
Waking in a cold sweat, I shake my head trying to dispel the images. Shaking his head again, this time in disbelief, he wishes that was the one thing I could forgot about
that time in my life. As I get dressed, I decide to take a walk before I get ready for my run.
As I walk down the street, I ponder the outcome and changes of my life, them happening so quickly and unexpectedly, the same thought I have had many other nites, amazed at how suddenly and how much one mans life could change.
It was just 5 years ago, living on the streets, running with the gangers, so traumatized I couldnt even remember my own name. It was only then, 5 years ago when I met that man, that I heard my name, my real name, for the first time since he was a small child.
Lone star, sitting in the station, at that damn chair for hours. Wondering why I wasnt being processed. Then all of a sudden in a room, nobody else other than myself and some suit I've never seen before. Then the suit procedes to tell me about my family, my name, and some kinda inheritance and how my family have been looking for me. All these years, looking for me. God, it felt so weird hearing my real name for the first time in so many years.
Walking down the road, I come out of my daydream, realizing Im back at my place and decides to get ready for my run. chuckling at the last five years as I climb
the steps to my seedy apartment,I thinks about the last five years and the whirlwind it was. Trying to find my parents killers, all the learning, all the training. The
manipulating and the murder. Then once again, another life changing experience. Why live in the past, why for vengence? I was handend this gift from my parents, why tarnish their memory with thoughts of vengence and misery, mine and others? So, now here I am a runner and loving life, wondering when my next life altering change will be.Who knows what life has in store me next..........

also, do the bikes have any kind of carrying capacity? more specifically, the suzuki mirage?

@Carny: Am I correct in assuming that the Armstrong room is making sure that Granny's cluster isn't currently available? If so, Vice unfortunately can't be distracted from the meeting by his sudden obsession with finding out more about the flappers at the bar.

At this point, yes. The mesh tags just don't have enough signal to make the outside connection happen, given the defenses in play.
crizh
I've placed a series of Microscopic RFID re-trans units across the inside of the door-frame. They're called Mesh Tags, another toy from Unwired, and create an ad-hoc network with other Mesh tags. We've got our own private network that wraps around the edge of the door that acts as a bridge between the inside and outside of the Faraday cage. Trouble with Faraday cages is they need entrances and exits which creates exploitable cracks.

She wouldn't be much of a Matrix specialist.....

The Tacsoft if set up correctly will provide a 2 dice bonus to all relevant tests which boils down to just about everything you do on a run. We need another team member or I need to set up a drone as a fourth member of the Tactical Network to get the full bonus. We'll see how it goes...

Um, beg to differ?

A Faraday cage is all or nothing. The door can't create a perfect seal, so if the tags are in the gap between the metal mesh in the door and the metal mesh in the wall they will still be able to talk to each other. A bit like a bucket chain.

You're obviously perfectly at liberty to say that this tactic doesn't work in this instance for some reason. Like we're not in a Faraday Cage for example but some sort of area jammer.

I would like a reasonable opportunity to attempt to circumvent though. I wouldn't be very good at my job if I didn't.

Needle in a haystack, but upon looking over the picture of Ms. Silverzip, would the good doctor have seen her before somewhere? Possibly delivering for a patient of his, at a club, or something. (keeping in mind his Photographic Memory) I presume that because this is a "Do I spot this?" check, that the illustriuos GM would be rolling it.

There are two things at play here. There is a faraday cage in the walls, but the door isn't sealed, even at the best of times, so there would be leakage through it, even without the mesh tags. So when the door is closed, there is a jammer focused on the doorway itself. The designer of the room probably didn't have mesh tags specifically in mind, but the door, since it has to fit in with the 1920s theme of the place, was and is the obvious weakspot.
crizh
So what rating is the Jammer?

Is the background 'noise' from that not fairly obvious?

The rating is higher then 2 on the jammer, certainly. And given that the jamming is focussed on the doorway, rather tightly, it wouldn't be obvious unless you were pretty close to the door in the first place. It wouldn't do to blast out the whole club just to keep one room secure, after all.

No doubt if he had seen her he'd remember her, but in this case he hasn't, before the meeting.

They can run ECCM 2 so it needs to be at least Rating 5.

Surely I would have noticed when standing in the doorway and the signal degradation on the links to the Mesh Tags should be obvious.

You'd definitely notice once the door was closed the second time, when Cricket left, and the mesh tags got jammed. But the jammer only lights off when the door is closed, so there wouldn't have been a signal to pick up when she entered, or was doing her subterfuge to get the mesh tags in place.

Not too easy to give a good description when im brought in meeting you all at the door, soheres a bit more bout what u see. lol.

Bout, 5ft10in, 160lb. So im a little on the skinny side, but not much and what i do got is well toned. Hazel eyes and short brown hair(1-2 inches long), looks like hands just been ran through it, but not in a messy I dont give a frag kinda way, more of a shake things up kinda way.(Its kinda hard to explain. lol.). A single scar, narrow, splits my right eyebrow and runs down below my eye, ending right after it hits the bone around my eyesocket below my eye.
Jeremiah Legacy
I'm not very clear. Have the Johnsons left yet? And, in the Carny version of Shadowrun 4, is the amount being offered an appropriate amount? Doc's not going to haggle unless it's obviously not enough.

The Johnsons have indeed left, but we can roll things back a bit, if you had more you wanted to say to them. The money is pretty decent, 5-6k each, assuming full success. None of you really have the street cred yet to command high nu-yen for runs.

Nope. I'm good.
Street Slag
ok, well, to help move things along are we just simulating that i was filled in on the run, or is there something were waiting on?
DWC
Sorry about the delay. While I spend all week in front of a computer in my office, weekends are another story.
Street Slag
No biggie, i was just wondering if we were just waiting on posts, or if i was just expected to simulate the catchup since i could have just read the previous posts
DWC
Considering Vice's less than stellar natural memory and his newness to the HK racing scene, it's probably a long shot, but has he run across Silverzip in his travels?
Carny
I've been giving these things some pretty low chances (ie 1 in 6) because Hong Kong is a real big town, with literally thousands of social circles, most of which just plain don't intersect.

But, Vice does remember seeing her around at Happy Valley, once or twice. She rides a silver Mirage, modified to really scream.
crizh
Sorry, been a bit quiet. I realised that I'd messed up my equipment and kinda lost the will to live trying to work out how to fix it.

Long story short, I bought 2 Microwave links at Rating 8 which (headslap) aren't legal at chargen so I need to alter that but it's taking me forever to decide how to do it. Do I remove them entirely or just downgrade them? I also seem to have stuff I don't need that I put on the list before Unwired came out. I'll post later today when I have a gear list that makes sense again.
crizh
This is a bit of a quick and dirty fix...

[ Spoiler ]

That stops me retcon-ing gear I didn't have before into the character and takes out the stuff I couldn't or shouldn't have.

It makes my starting cash 4D6+12 x 500 = 27 (5+3+4+3+12)x 500 = 13,500 nuyen.gif

That should be enough to pick up anything I've forgotten in play rather than doing any more mucking about...
crizh
And here's the tweaks you said I could make to skills and CF's...

So, what's on the chip?
Street Slag
forgive my "newbie" question here, but the small handful of games ive played, i never even heard of a PAN. is a chipreader petty standard in em, or does it come as an extra implant?
Also, does it have any kind of small internal memory bank built in or anything, or is that an addon as well? what kind of software is built into the os as well? sorry, but im new to the PAN concept.
crizh
There will be some sort of chip reader in every comm-link, which forms the core of every PAN or Personal Area Network.

It's just shorthand for the the little solar system of wireless crap everybody has orbiting them in SR4.
Street Slag
kk thanks. well, guess thats why i never heard of the PAN, becuase its new to SR4, and this my first time with SR4. lol. again, thanks.
So there is no other basic programs built into it then, and there also isnt any kind of built in memory? i guess what im asking is can i use it to take notes or anything like that and can i record the info off of the chip onto it?
DWC
The rule of thumb I've always used is that anything I can do with my Blackberry, a commlink can do, so taking notes, playing music, looking up rudimentary information in public places, and things of that sort are part of the OS. And thanks to the infinite wireless bandwidth that's part of the SR4 matrix, and advances in nanomanufacturing, pretty much everything has effectively infinite storage space, since anything you want to store, your commlink will find free space "somewhere" to store.
Street Slag
alright, thanks. thats pretty much what i figured, basic pda type functions, just wanted to make sure what with this being my first time playin with a pan and all. lol
DWC
Out of curiousity, does running out and picking up a nanofax fabricated zoot suit fall under the blanket of high lifestyle? If not, what'd it end up costing Vice?

I think he can manage to find a zoot suit without paying extra for it.

I'm confused, are you coming with me or riding with the other two?

I think both Doc and Stray brought their own transport to the club.

I am wondering how difficult it would be to do a sort of Italian Job conversion on the bus? Add a compartment in the back with room for 3 or 4 bikes and drop down ramps for deployment and recovery.

Hmmm, back to the old drawing board...
