Marwynn, you're welcome to keep the Rating 3 Fakes if you'd like. But if you'd like to trade them in for FFBA, that's fine as well.
Update on OperationSpirit's character: Finished! Finally. Well, except for gear. We'll knock that out tomorrow evening, and hopefully get it posted up here for everyone to see.

Good news!
How do you want us to do software?
Can we give the hacker some cred to cover his or her time and expense to get some decent pirated software for all of us or do we need to buy it ourselves?

How do we want to tie the character's backgrounds together?
For example Rev knows Escrima. Perhaps her and Shotgun Sam have trained under the same teacher together?
Her best contact is a street doc named Harrison who is a pretty good surgeon. Runs a charity clinic on the side funded by his paying customers.
Marwynn
Oct 12 2009, 05:51 AM
Hmm interesting. A low-level "ganger" contact runs a community outreach centre of sorts from Shotgun Sam's old neighbourhood. His lil brother and sister attended there, and the administrator joined the same gang as Sam for protection and closer access.
I figured that outreach centre would've had maybe a visit from a doc every now and then. Rev may have accompanied the street doc Harrison to this place while Sam was on duty guarding the place. Maybe even teaching some of the kids the basics.
Or it could be the other way around, Samson accompanies the troll admin to the charity clinic along with a few kids who need help. They meet and spar.
Or as you said through a trainer, though I don't have a contact that does that for Sam. Just a street mage sparring partner.

So, you said that we could have used vehicles, but you never said what exact discount we could get (Since the book says from 20% to 50%). I figure since my character is a mechanic, could basically get a real junker and be able to make it usable.
Also, I figure we need to apply the +4 availability to the vehicle in question, so there is a limit to what we can get used.

I'd like the game to start this week sometime. I've got my initial post basically ready; just a bit of fine tuning left. Maybe Wednesday (the 14th) night, or Thursday (the 15th) morning? So, having said that, I'm going to officially close character creation on the morning of Wednesday (the 14th). So if you haven't submitted your character for final approval yet, you've got until midnight tomorrow night. After that, and I'll have to ask you to wait until the beginning of the next run.
So let's get those runners cranked out!

Fake SINs and Licenses have an availability equal to their Rating x3. So Rating 1 and 2's are fine. Anything higher than that, and you'll need to contact me.
Consider yourself contacted.

Got my SINs and Licenses at Rating 3 right now. I do have good relations to a cool fixer contact to provide those, however, if that's good enough an explanation.

P.S. Still have 10kĄ to spend... maybe I will get me a nice car (though I probably have to drop a skill by one to actually be able to afford a
nice car). And after reading the section on customized lifestyles in RC, I will probably add some profile to that one. Will have that ironed out by Wednesday for sure.

Okay, a question on advanced lifestyles. The positive quality of Homegrown Farming states that it adds two to neccessities as far as food is concerned. Could it possibly be applied in the same manner to say...Entertainment if the right plants were grown? Obviously it would be one or the other if allowed.
Also, is a roommate allowed? Was thinking of a cousin (taking perfect roommate for him) and splitting the cost of rent. Of course since he's big into the gang life, it becomes a crashpad.
Karoline
Oct 12 2009, 06:23 PM
What kind of plants could you.... oh... wait

Never mind.
If you do go the roommate route, don't forget that it increases the overall cost of your lifestyle by 10% before the roommate pays for half.
Thanee

Ok, made some final changes (small change to skill list; swapped one spell out; advanced lifestyle; spent rest of equipment money).

So, did anyone mention about how all hacking programs are availability 12? Because I feel that is an important fact when trying to buy hacking programs.
Karoline
Oct 12 2009, 11:39 PM
Also, how much are autosofts adaptable between drones? For example, does each individual drone need its own maneuver autosoft? What about targeting and clearsight?
I always figured that autosofts where general enough that they could help with any drone with a few tweaks of the program, but I figure I should ask to be safe. So will I need seprate Targeting autosofts for each weapon and/or drone type? Will I need a maneuver for each individual drone? Will movement type (Flying, wheeled, anthro) be enough, or will one maneuver be good enough to handle anything?
I ask because the book never really says how encompassing autosofts are. It never really says that you need a different one for every kind of drone, or that one works for all, so I figured I'd ask before I show up with too few autosofts.
Marwynn
Oct 12 2009, 11:53 PM
Maneuver is by movement type I believe. I know that Targeting is by weapon class (Automatic, Heavy, Longarm, etc). You can crack the copy protection and it's all good. Clearsight I believe is by individual drone model, buy I could be wrong there.
Most of this is from the dumpshock forums though.
cndblank
Oct 13 2009, 12:58 AM
I think the the piloting software is going to be customized to each drone.
The targeting software would be easier to adapt between comparable weapons.
Karoline
Oct 13 2009, 01:15 AM
No, I know Pilots have to be unique for each drone (Although once again the rules don't expressly state this) but I'm asking about the maneuver autosoft.
I'd also like to know for the Covert Ops and Defense autosofts. I figure both are universal enough to go onto all drones. I mean there might have to be some slight tweaks to deal with exact type of movement and drone size, but I figure that for the most part that should be small enough to not require entire new programs.
I figure that the autosofts work like skills for drones. Maneuver gives Pilot (whatever) so you could have them for groundcraft, anthro, flying, aerospace, and ships (And anything I might be forgetting).
Targeting I figure would be gunnery, since all mounted guns fall under gunnery, regardless of type.
Defense is dodge (or possibly block since it only works in melee), and CovertOps is infiltrate.
Clearsight is perception.
I figure that if a rigger can jump into a drone and have all of his general skills work on every single kind of drone, the autosoft should be able to do the same thing. Anyway, this is why I ask.
I currently have 3 different maneuver autosofts for different movement types, only have one gun type, so should only need one targeting regardless (I'm even going so far as to buy my own instead of just ripping a copy off my doberman).
Karoline
Oct 13 2009, 01:43 AM
Would it be okay for my bus to have fung shui? You know like, provided that I park facing due north or whatever.
Edit: I also took no neighbors because I figure I don't have any real ones, based on where I park. Took lax security and ambusher's delight to help even it out, going to take a level of 'no privacy' since there isn't a lot of space and there are a bunch of window.

That makes sense.
The software analyzes the situation and tell the pilot what to do.
Method
Oct 13 2009, 03:42 AM
SR4A is pretty clear that Maneuver is specific to vehicle type and Targeting is specific to weapon type, basically like the analogous Active Skills. The rules for other autosofts don't really specify, but the range of situations they apply to are much more limited.

Ah, don't have 4A. Still, seems odd that targeting requires a particular autosoft for weapon type (emulating pistols/automatics/longarms) when a rigger jumped into the drone uses gunnery regardless of what is attached to the drone. Oh well, works for me and means I have the right programs. Now I just need my other dozen or so questions answered and I'll be ready to submit my character.

I don't know about everyone else, but I plan on getting an IC and some programs to feed it to help keep my comm a bit more secured. Combine that with slaving all my drones and I'm basically golden... well, maybe a real shinny bronze

I bought a working comm + OS (3/3/3/3) for my PAN and a throw away comm just to run fake SINs on.
I also bought a (very simple) IC program with armor and attack (all at 2) to load on my working comm. Hopefully this, plus running in hidden mode with everything skinlinked will be secure enough until we get some cash for upgrades.
Besides, if we run into a competent hacker early on rating 3 software isn't going to slow him down a bit.

What do you netheads think should be the minimum matrix security protocol for the group (weakest link and all that)?
What are we going to use to communicate with each other?
I guess that should be what do we want to have now?
And what should we shot for in the future?
FYI She is running a rating 3 comm with a 3 OS via a skinlink to a disposable comm. The comm is DNL (jacked in) to her wetware. She has a second one with her main Fake Skin. Everything she has is ran via skinlink or voice protocol (including her bike).
Her bike as a spoof chip. I'm thinking I should get the morphing license plate too.
Rev is a pretty good at Etiquette and Negotiation (12d6).
She is willing to trade some help finding and negotiating for software/gear if some one will go in with her on some decent software for the comm link.
She is also looking for some pirated skill softs not having the cred to pay 10K per rating (I do not like the new prices for skill softs. They are way too high on something that has been around for years. I mean how many ways are there to swing a blade or change the plugs on a car?). I mean 20K for a rating 2 auto mechanic chip?
Maybe we need to steal a van so we have a disposable work vehicle and knock over an electronics shop for some gear?

Oct 13 2009, 02:39 PM
Rev has been approved but I'm open to suggestions if anyone has one.

A team van would be good. I'd chip in.
But if we have the skills to boost an extra van, then we should boost a van.
It will be good practice.
I'm not talking about a van for making a hot exit, but rather one for surveillance work and backup delivery and exit.
Something that could be done up like a Edison work van or a Exterminator's van and could be parked by the side of the road for hours and no one would give it any notice.
Something that we could abandon at a moment's notice. (pull the spoof chip which starts the timer on the C squared aerosol and walk away.)
After a few months, we can clean it up, strip it down, and leave it some place likely to take it to a chop shop and then steal another.
Karoline

I could likely preform any re-wiring required to steal a van. Another option is we could buy a real junker and fix it up. Cost us more but it would be safer.

50ish drones later.... and then the fire finishes engulfing the building, which after several long minutes filled with blazing heat, collapses into a pile of still burning rubble... you are fairly sure your target has perished in the blaze.

Hah, Spirit doesn't actually have any drones at all. Seems like you've got it covered, lol.

I told him that he can submit his character to me, and if SincereAgape doesn't end up creating a character in time, then I'll talk to you guys about including him as the 8th member. How's that sound to you guys? I haven't seen his final character yet, but he told me he'd PM it to me this evening. Last I knew, it was some kind of combat medic - but that may have changed.
Anyways, just a heads up. Wanted to see what you guys thought.

QUOTE (Karoline @ Oct 12 2009, 11:05 PM)

I don't know about everyone else, but I plan on getting an IC and some programs to feed it to help keep my comm a bit more secured. Combine that with slaving all my drones and I'm basically golden... well, maybe a real shinny bronze

Edit: I forget, we are supposed to have all known each other for a while, right? That would make having the hacker be able to crack everyone free copies of whatever software they needed make alot of sense if he/she is cracking it anyway.
I'll kick in 1K for software.
Team van is good.

Actually, strike out what I said before about my friend stepping in if SAgape doesn't finish his character before cutoff; we spoke about it, and it'll be better if he sits out and just observes this run. If he's still interested when we recruit for other runs, he can apply then.

I vote we steal a van in game. It seems to me like it would fit the tone of this group, and it makes for a simple introductory run.
I have software I would offer up to crack, but its up to milk ducks how he wants to handle cracking. I always make my players roll for cracking in game (basically to avoid trashing the original on a glitch). Otherwise cracking is just too easy.
Also, we still need a back story for the group. I guess we could always go with "we worked together in the past".

Sophie Mcallister
Background Information:
[ Spoiler ]
Sophie is a young up-and-coming auto mechanic living and working with her uncle. Like any normal young girl Sophie decided to leave home and strike out on her own. Even with years of experience working in her uncle's shop, she found it almost impossible to find steady work in the outside world and she soon found herself considering moving back home, but her pride kept her in place... and kept her struggling for food and shelter.
After the sudden disappearance of her father, Sophie decided to return to her uncle's shop, not only to help out, but also to dig for information on the whereabouts of her Dad.
The contacts she made through the shop (she and her uncle had a strict 'don't ask don't tell' policy that was greatly appreciated throughout the gangs in the area) were integral in her search for answers, and she found more and more information leading her into the shadows. She soon found herself all but addicted to the thrill of anonymity. That, coupled with the search for her father, draw her into the shadows.
