so I had a question(I was thinking of posting it in the shadowrun forum) . people always joke about the "everybody meets in the Tavern" scene in D&D, and I think that the great thing about Shadowrun is that everybody is meeting because they're being hired for a job. much smoother, but I find that , unless the team is real proactive about running together, the second job seems a little odd. A Johnson hires the exact same people that didn't know each other at all a few months ago. It starts to feel like they're the only runners in town. you guys ever run into this?

Sort of... I actually did a really neat campaign a few years back when my group was sort of in a state of flux and I there were a lot of people coming and going. Probably a total of about 9 people, but rarely had more than 4 or 5 together at once.

Anyhow, I had my players each create between 3 and 5 characters (I think I had a total of about 35 different PC's) and then threw them all together. They would show up to a session not knowing which of their characters might get a phone call from one of their contacts with a job offer, nevermind who they might be partnered up with for the run. Sometimes it was random, sometimes it was characters I knew worked well together. There were even a few times that I had one PC get contacted with a job offer and instructions to build a team.

I'm 28, I live in Omaha Nebraska, I've been playing but mostly GMing shadowrun since sometime in second edition. I rent an apartment that I share with my future wife who is in my unbiased opinion the most awesome gamer girl in the world, or at least North America. I've tried a bunch of other games with mixed results but SR is my drug of choice.

On your question i've ran it a number of ways, it could be that fixers network quite a bit and tend to keep teams that work reasonably well together as a chance of increasing chances of success and known qualities. It could be that we all agree out of character to work towards a situation where our team gels somewhat unless something comes up where it's just unworkable. That's the approach I tend to encourage in my home game and we may be well served by here. Generally then in the future the face contacts someone, usually the teams face and and asks the team to come to a meet, fixer calls everyone else.

I've been delayed in posting as I would have felt really horrible if i posted in this game more then the one I'm GMing so i wanted to get that updated before I came back here, my apologies.

As a final note is there still standing shadow bounties on technomancers? The reason I ask is I wanted to know the level of exosure Light is taking if he outs himself to the team so they know what he's capable of.
GrimWulf
It was 20 up front Lurker, unless Light missed that.... then Noise will keep the other 10K... and expect a cut from the first 10K too. nyahnyah.gif Like she'd get away with that. dead.gif

There is absolutely no truth to the rumors about the 8 thousand nuyen referral bonus program for "natural DNI" test subjects.

I think the mega's are backing off after the hong kong incident, and the AI's are the front page news now
Red-ROM
well, plato o plomo is at an end I think, Fuchs is moving onto greener pastures, and another game bites the dust..
I'd post something IC , but the ball's kinda in y'alls court.
LurkerOutThere
For the record, i'm still posting and making a conncerted effort to post more actively now that things have quieted down a bit at work.

Sorry to hear about that. He's a good GM and I really enjoyed the game while I was in it.
imperialus
hope no one minds but I fast forwarded things to get us to Light River's noodle shack. Just figured it would keep things moving.
imperialus
whoops double post.
LurkerOutThere
I'm certainly in favor of it. Giving it some thought I think lights gang mentality will give him a certain sink or swim trust with the other runners out of a desire to belong. Plus he's aware of his own shortcomings and figures he won't be able to hide it for long so better to get his capabilities on the table.
imperialus
Well one way or another Mongol and Noise are going to come to an understanding nyahnyah.gif
LurkerOutThere
Yea, i'm not trying to be the wet blanket but this is starting to fray my sense of disbelief on Light Hanging out. The two angry foreigners are worrying him more then the opposition at this point.
GrimWulf
Noise was calm... *shrugs*

Also trying not to bring the game down about our heads at this point.
DireRadiant
psst.. I know chinese swear words... smile.gif
GrimWulf
so does anyone who's watched firefly biggrin.gif
DireRadiant
When I first watched Firefly I could not figure out what they were saying though, and I've been sworn at a lot.
GrimWulf
Heh yeah, they didn't have any language coaches apparently. Just were given the lines and told to speak them however they figured it'd be correct.

Ditto for Mongol. Twice now in the past hour Noise has threatened him. If he wasn't so desperate for cash he would have walked out of the initial meet.
DireRadiant
They aren't negative qualities for no reason.
Red-ROM
ok, things have escalated a little bit, but we can chalk it up to good character interaction without derailing anything.

or we can start rolling dice and forget the whole adventure smile.gif

I like a little conversation between characters, even an argument or two. I think the trick is to step back for a moment and not write the characters out of the movie. We're getting a good sense of noise's hatred of men, but she obviously functions in a world full of them, so she should be able to curb it when needed. Also, Mongol can probably take comfort in his superior composure and not let a braggart get under his skin. I'm sure after working together a while, you guys will have the witty banter of the odd couple.

or again, roll initiative smile.gif

That is also true.
DireRadiant
Will it be easier for Noise if Litany works out as the Team Leader? That might be something to work towards.

Yeah, also at the moment Mongol is running on the assumption that Noise hates Orks... After all the two men on the team also happen to be Orks. I'd rather not start rolling for initiative, in no small part because I suspect that Mongol would end up dead, but also to keep the adventure on track. It shouldn't be too hard to have the two of them come to an understanding. I did another post for Mongol, keyed him down a bit.
GrimWulf
Damn Trogs! Ya deserve it all. Pfft, how dare you goblinize. j/k of course. ;D

And I totally am not trying to write anyone out of the story, on the contrary, playing to the character and keeping the thing together is proving to be interesting.

@Dire: Probably. Certainly would work better (for everyone I think) then the alternatives.

@All: Sorry if I've caused too much problem.
Red-ROM
No worries grim. you're playing your character, nothing wrong with that. I think everything is coming together. I have had a character's personality run a muck before, just read Plato o plomo. Jasper had a charisma of 2 and it showed. He also solved problems with full auto firepower.

Red-ROM
Just checkin in. Its looking like Dire Radiant is up to bat?
DireRadiant
So what do you all want to get to next?
LurkerOutThere
I need to post but I'm having trouble thinking straight, Light will likely propose that everyone heads back to his pad for the planing as he's damn sure it isn't bugged.
Red-ROM
hey guys, how're we doing?

everybody still playing?
DireRadiant
yes.
imperialus
I'm still in. Mongol's sort of at a point where he realizes that his foot is jammed firmly in his mouth. He's not sure what to say to smooth things over so he's just plain clammed up.
LurkerOutThere
I'm here but I've got finals and projects for work and other stuff do this week
GrimWulf
Here and dropped a quick post earlier, at work so couldn't drop too much into it.
Red-ROM
I think this game is dead.
LurkerOutThere
I hope not, I havn't been able to post as much as i'd like but I hope to be coming around.
imperialus
I'm still around... Like I said before though, Mongol isn't likely to have much to add to the conversation right now...
Red-ROM
alright! the game is still hanging in there. I'm gonna let Lurker describe his own place.
