Having a family van and enough skill to drive it without running down every pedestrian on the street would be nice. You can up the skill level if you want to be able to pull cool stunts, but there's no need to get decked out with VCRs and the like because I won't be using the rules for 'em.

DrJest: Aye.
Nightcrawler472
Pfft. Sod vans, I want two wheels nyahnyah.gif

Anyway, background's done and I'm working on stats now...should have it e-mailed in an hour or so.
Eyeless Blond
Bah; I've got 4 karma left over that I can't figure out what to do with nyahnyah.gif. Um, can you buy Edges with Karma? What's the exchange rate?

Meh, maybe I'll just buy a bike skill or something nyahnyah.gif.
tisoz
How about a Force 6 exclusive spell? Or a regular force 4 spell? Keep it to pay the free spirit.
Eyeless Blond
Maybe, but I can't really think of any other spells I want. I suppose I could get Mindprobe at force 6, but it's not really in-character. Fetish-limit Chaos/Chaotic World at Force 5? Maybe I'll just hold onto it.
Hat Trick
VERY IMPORTANT!

At this point in time, I have the following characters sitting in my inbox:

[ Spoiler ]

The players of the last three still need to send me their character sheets.

If you planned on submitting a character, but have not yet done so, drop me a line to let me know you're still interested. If I don't hear from you, I'll make my selections early and start the game. There's no sense in waiting if there's nothing to wait for, neh?

*Nightcrawler: That's your char. I can't download the character background for some strange reason, so you'll need to resend.
Panzergeist
You want character sheets? I thought you only wanted concepts, and sheets would come after you made your pick.
Hat Trick
I wanted you to post your concepts here, and send me the sheet and background. Sorry for not making that clear.
Nightcrawler472
I'm sorry I haven't sent you any stats yet Hat Trick, it's just life's been a little...odd recently, and my sleeping patterns've been more screwy than usual so I've not had much energy (or much time awake at sane hours), hopefully I'll get something done tomorrow though (ahh the joy of college libraries), so I'll e-mail you it them.

One thing I did mean to ask though, is the cap Avail. 8 or 6?
FXcalibur
Should be 8.

When are we starting, btw?
Hat Trick
Nightcrawler: No sweat, turns out we won't be starting ahead of schedule anyway. Yeah, availability is capped at 8.

FX: The window for submissions ends Wednesday night. The game will probably start Saturday or something.
Nightcrawler472
Hat Trick - I know you said no riggers, but did you mean no vehicle riggers, or no drone riggers? Or both?

It's just I've got a concept for a drone rigger that I've been throwing round for a few days, and I finally got a background (it's funny what comes to you while trying to fall asleep).

Edit:

Sod it, I'm going with my original sharpshooter type character, though I'm still trying to decide on a name.

I'm about halfway through his stats...got his cyberware, active skills & some of his attributes done, and I'll finish the rest after I've eaten.

Just out of curiosity though, is it wrong that he's familiar with most weapon systems? He's got skills for heavy weapons, gunnery, pistols, shotguns, assault rifles & SMG's, though SMG is his highest skill. Should I edit it a bit or is this ok?
Hat Trick
Design your character the way you envision him. I really don't care. smile.gif

By the way, you and anyone else who still owes me stuff have exactly 5 hours left. Get crackin'.
Eyeless Blond
Alrighty then! Let's get going! biggrin.gif
Nikoli
Woot
Hat Trick
Alrighty, time's up. The team has been put together.

Jude, played by Nikoli, is in.
Eyes, played by Eyeless Blond, is in.
Mary, played by FXcalibur, is in.
Peek, played by Tisoz, is in.

First order of the day: If you want any of your contacts to have a specific personality or backstory, let me know. Otherwise I'll just pull their strings any way I want.

Second order of the day: Decide amongst yourselves whether you want to start as a team or be complete strangers brought together by a common fixer. If you want to group up before the game, figure out how everything is going to work.

That is all. I'm off to hit the sack.
Eyeless Blond
Contact backstory should already be there, except for the fixer. I can't think of any good fixer-type personalities, so I'll just leave that one up to you, unless anyone else has a suggestion. smile.gif
Panzergeist
I'm going to have to drop this one anyway, I don't think I'll have the time for it.
tisoz
I'm in!

Ok, down to business. I would as soon have us know each other or have worked together a time or to before.

My backstory is grew up in Chicago, left when the wall came down, went to Seattle, masters degree in anthropology (fascinated by group dynamics, like how Chicago became kinda tribal after the bugs showed up), avoiding the corp recruiters while observing life in the Redmond Barrens. Shadowruns for the money, but since his needs are few, he can be a little choosy about what jobs he takes.

He could have run into Jude or Mary while providing magical back-up.
Nikoli
Strings is a published fixer that I happened to love the background for, she's a retired madame (think Ms. Scarlet from the Clue movie) who uses former clients to get work for runners etc.

Just seemed a natural fit for an Irish Catholic boy to have her as a contact.

FYI:
I'm cool with us knowing each other,
Jude is very Irish Catholic. Not a good Catholic mind you, as he still is a runner, but he does go to church when possible, uses the confessional (only the stuff that he can't avoid as an Irishman: fightin, drinkin, cussin, womanizin, anger, fightin, drinkin).

he doesn't care for wetwork, his talents lie in general thievery and rabble-rousing.

He has a single pistol, a Super Ruger Warhawk with a small medallion imprinted on the handle (St. Stephen, patron saint of Casket Makers).

Chances are, when you met him he was either on the way to a fight, on the way back from one or was in one and had the bruises to show for it. He doesn't care for professional boxing and prefers the street and private gym stuff.
Hat Trick
The first IC post is up. The second will follow as soon as you guys work your thing out. You may continue here or move it to the OOC thread. Feel free to post whatever you want in the IC thread, but the call for work ain't coming until you're done setting up the team.

And someone remind me to kill off Eyes as soon as the game begins. I just realized that I've forgotten every single decker rule that I've ever known, and gotta reread the entire section in BBB again.
tisoz
Already discussed connections with James. Mainly met during college.

I didn't see where anyone lived, but I'm assuming Jude is SINless like his mother. He might live nearby, and have noticed me observing. We could even have run into each other in a bar. Peek carries a lot of guns. And is in no way an expert in their use, but hopefully it makes people think the guy with all the guns is not the mage, and keeps me from getting geeked first. smile.gif [edit] Oh yeah, the point. I can see Jude razzing him for all the guns and saying Jude only needs one. [/edit]

I can easily see he and Mary knowing each other through crime and investigation. Maybe they are somewhat friends, she gets him out of hot water when he gets hassled by the other officers. Maybe he got her out of a tight situation when she was investigating in his neighorhood.

I think I'll use that if it is ok. During one of my obervations, I got drawn to the commotion of Mary doing some investigating of a group of hoods. When things looked like they might start getting physical, I had a spirit use confusion on the hoods. It was enough to tilt things Mary's way. It may have been enough to draw her attention, and even a bit of investigation of what I was doing in Redmond with no visible means of support.
Nikoli
BTW, the medallion is just Irish humor. Not to denote anything resembling SOTA skill.

I like the razzing about about the guns.
But since Jude doesn't have "the sight" he'd likely never know you weren't what you seem to be without seeing you cast.

Eh, don't worry about it. If you want we can just have you make up a TN mod for me to roll against and we can just BS most of the Matrix. I kept everything pretty simple in that regard; no specializations on the Computer skill, most programs at the same rating (except a few minor ones like Medic which aren't important). I'm probably not going to be decking by remote anyway, having too many other good things for the character to do as well, so the Matrix-based stuff can be easily glossed over. See my post (upcoming) for details.

As for knowing each other, remember that not everyone has to know every other person for this to be a possible group. In fact it would be a little contrived if everyone had met everyone else by coincidence. Since Peek and Eyes already know each other, Mary and Jude only need to have met one of them to be connected. It sounds kinda stupid to say it out loud, but really we only need three chance meetings and not six. smile.gif
tisoz
So what is your relation to Mary?
Eyeless Blond
Uh, dunno. Like I said before, I'm not very insightful. smile.gif I have SHadowland as a Level 2 contact; maybe they ran into each other there?
Nikoli
Well, since we're not a bunch of beginners, there's no reason to assume we haven't worked before.

Besides, PBP games take long enough, do you really want to spend 3 weeks getting through intro's and what not. I'd really rather just get into the run.
Eyeless Blond
Hey that's even better. So we all met somehow in the past and ended up doing a previous run or two together. Keeping it ambiguous lets us add in all sorts of in-jokes about stuff that happened on previous runs, like a time when Mary was supposed to seduce her way past a guard, but he turned out to be gay so .Peek had to do it instead. Or are we going for more of a dark mood here?
tisoz
Still in denial about that, James? We sent you in while I laughed my hoop off from the astral.
Eyeless Blond
Bah, I still think it would have worked better if it were you instead of me. You know you're better at talking to these meatspace Icons than I am. I still can't figure out if it was his laughter or the elephant-sized dose of gamma-scopolamine that paralyzed him more. 'Least I managed a Kraftwerk out of the deal; that warehouse has some wiz gear stashed away, and so easy to wipe clean.

Meh, it's no fun if the next poster just flat-out contradicts what the previous one says. If you're not secure enough with your character to allow him to be the brunt of a joke or two then these kinds of games end up being an endless series of one-upmanship, with everyone claiming that the person just above them is mistaken or wrong, and that something else happenned entirely. That's the kind of immature writing that makes so many play-by-post games such an eyesore. Bah, maybe I should just drop the suggestion; it's far too easy for a poor sport to kill everyone's enthusiasm.
tisoz
Ok, how is this instead.

<shudders as a chill passes through him at the reminder> If you have to keep bringing that up, James, I'm going to tell everyone how you wanted his telecom number.

[edit] then again I've gotten a tongue lashing for controlling someone else's character, kind of like what you did by creating history. Me too, though it could be I'm planning on spreading a falsehood.

How comfortable are people going to be with this? [/edit]
Eyeless Blond
<That was a bit snappish, sorry. I've had some bad experiences with a couple of people pulling stuff like that constantly in a four-year-long PBP game, though, and it starts to wear thin real quick. Go ahead and keep what you had before; I certainly don't mind making James the, "straight man," so to speak. biggrin.gif All I'm saying is, in a metagame of retconning, don't make secondary retconning a habit 'cause it gets too complicated to follow and totally ruins the narrative flow.>

[edit]Hmm, that's true. What's your policy on that, Hat? In the game I was talking about it was not only allowed but *expected* that we'd try to control each other's characters, after the char's creator had a chance to establish a good personality for him/her. A game like this, though, I expect will be different.[/edit]
FXcalibur
Sorry, I've been out of it for a few days.

I have to say I agree with Nikoli. It takes months to finish a run I'd pull off in a 4-hour AIM session. I just want to get this one started. I don't have any qualm with people making up stuff about their previous relationship with her or being the brunt of any jokes.

For those who need a quick summary of her background and don't want to read the paragraphs-long description (and I don't blame you):
