Seeking dedicated players to take on the roles of a top notch Mercenary squad.
125 points or priority character generation (standard availability/ ratings apply)
100 karma points +10 karma pool
250,000 yen added (availability of gear is 16)
5000 yen buys 1 Karma point
Edges and Flaws max 10 ( must be within 1 point of each other or may buy edges with character points or use Flaws to buy character points.)
Post brief/Semi-brief (as some of you are excellent writers) character concept/ Background.
Please do not submit a character sheet until I ask.
I'm not looking for purely combat orientated characters...a pure drone rigger wouldnt fair well though.
If all players (those picked) agree to it I will allow a team karma pool. Cost to start is 10 karma from each, and 2 karma per extra. [intial team pool will be number of players] This stipulates the Characters know each other well.

Here's one.

Description:
David Leroy Hamilton
Aka: ‘Sledge’ Hammer, Andrew “Andy” Wayne McConnor
Born and raised in Houston and 6’8” and 337 lbs., David exemplifies the saying; “They grow ‘em big in Texas.” Besides his massive, muscular body his most striking features are his eyes – flat gray orbs with a gold skull over crossed red scythes – similar to the skull and cross-bones of a Jolly Roger. The design is also carried over to a tattoo on his right upper arm – a unit ‘patch’ of the 34th A.I.A.G. An ironic sense of humor marks his personality. His routine activities include a daily Tai Chi routine, three gym workouts a week and building plasticast scale models of VTOL aircraft.
Background:
Fifteen years in the C.A.S. Army, 34th Airborne Infantry Assault Group to be precise, toughened a man, and Sledge Hammer was as tough as they come. Sometimes, life was tougher…
Hammer used to work as a contractor for Astella, a small subsidiary of Fuchi. After Astella was liquidated he started an offshore 'Independent Consultant' business – Keys Security (tax-shelter/money laundering) for himself and his partners. The price of the Aztechnology extraction cover-up, bribes, medical attention, equipment replacement, etc. has left the consultant corporation nearly bankrupt and Hammer looking for employment.
When asked (by the right person) about the Azzie extraction, he has this to say:
"Look, it ain't my fault that Corp decker got geeked! You probably know more about it than I can tell you. But, since you asked, here's what I heard:
The Johnson on that circus was a fella by the name of Sam. He contracted me an' some of my mates from Keys Security an' a bunch of other blokes for a low-profile extraction. We had every angle covered.
Then the drek hit the ventilator.
One-armed Bandit and TuJacks was doin' overwatch when the van got EMP'd then hit with missiles or explosives, I found out later that by that time the entire backup team was dead or dyin'.
I was in Alpha team, and things couldn't have been sweeter – we penetrated the enclave, located the principal, and quietly got out without a challenge. We headed out convoy style for Foxtrot where we'd split up and shake any tails the Bandit couldn't dissuade.
The first sign of trouble was when we got a garbled trans from Bravo team on our radio net, then Bandit an' TuJacks missed the radio check-in. We was discussin' splittin' up early, car one to provide support for Bravo, car two proceed to Golf an' switch vehicles and car three to assist at Bandit's van, when car one gets
t-boned by a garbage truck. I was in car two an' our driver tries to get around this mess when we take a rocket to the driver's compartment. Before th' car quit rollin' I was draggin' this whinin' Suit towards the remains of one 'cause it busted through the wall of this warehouse - we took some autofire from above an' I had ta carry this guy but we made it inside. Three got fragged by a rocket but I capped that guy, he was on the roof across the street.
I was firing from the cover of the warehouse an' the back of one when a rocket hit, blew me back an' when I got back up I saw someone in the car tryin' ta get out, they was on fire. The Suit was down, took some shrapnel an' autofire - I gave him a Trauma patch, I was hit pretty bad an' could see their mop-up team comin'. I found a floor drain an' dropped the Suit through, then climbed down myself. I launched a grenade into a stack 'o crates an' they collapsed on top of th' drain. The water was deep an' cold.
I'm told when they fished me out of the sewer I had a Trauma patch on an' was nearly dead, the Suit wasn't so lucky.
Two Merc's from three made it out alive, we split the costs of covering up the backtrail an' found out that someone on Mr. J's side 'o the operation had rolled.
I was at Our Lady 'o Mercy waitin' for a new spleen, kidney an' two an' a half meters o' small intestine when they found what was left 'o Sam Johnson - I didn't have nuttin' ta do with it.
The 'Star report said that his driver lost control 'o that Nightsky an' they found the remains of several go-gangers nearby. Huh, who'd think gangers would be in THAT neighborhood?
So, now that we got that straight, ya mind if I use this 'sniffer before we get down ta business?"
From the build rules this sounds pretty high level, care to give a few more hints?

Human Older "early 40's"
Ex military Special Forces, from CA.
He was the medic of the team but being in Special Forces you need to know how to use a gun pretty well.
Was a military man for 18 years and run with a Mercenary group for 6 until half the group got killed "the group was made up of mostly his core military squad.

I'm not completely sure but if he's from CA as a military man he's Japanese right? Thats occupied or what isnt is a Free state i believe. Also Atzlan is alittle above San Diego if i'm not mistaken. Run with the medic idea though its a good one...every team needs a medic/corpman.

A couple questions.
1. Did I read that right? 5000 nuyen per 1 karma point???
2. Can they be part of an initiatory group or do they have to self-initiate?
3. How much will background come into play in the game?
4. Is this a one shot game or intended to be a long running campaign?
5. Can we have a little more detail about what the team will be doing? Are they going to be in a set battlefield/war zone fighting (e.g. Aztlan) or are they going to be doing a lot of traveling and have a more international flavor to the game?
6. Do you mean mercenary as in 'soldiers of fortune' in a traditional sense, or the more SR-interpretation of 'urban mercenaries/soldiers for hire in any environment' kind of mercenary?

Alright this one sounds fun, I've been wanting to play a tactical game for sometime, I was going to run one but I'd much rather play.
Heres my concept (I'll flesh him out when I have more time):
Adept(maybe), Ex. counter terrorism and intelligence officer trained in urban and dessert warfare, functioning knowledge of explosives and HALO jumps.
Specialty: Counter sniper/marksman
After 25 years of military service, Major Jack Crawford retired from the marines. He tried civillian life for a few months but the fires of battle soon reignited when he got message from a private sector mercenary recruiter. He enjoyed being back in the swing of things and having a cause, even if it was the cause of the highest bidder. His Marine Corp training served him well and he soon met up with his current team. His lack in social graces is well made up for in sheer combat skills, an expert on a small arsonal of weapons including, assault rifles, pistols, and heavy weapons to name a few. He carries two custom made weapons into battle with him, an assault rifle he lovingly calls the Equalizer and a revolver he calls the destroyer(if custom weapons are cool).
Kaosaur

Here's my concept.
Name: Queenashano or War Eagle
Race: Troll
Age: late 30s-early 40s
War Eagle is from the Ute Nation, part of the Comanche tribe and named after a 19th century chief.
War Eagle dabbles in a bit of everything. Being from the Ute, he's used to harsh, nomadic lifestyle.
He got his start early on, having stolen a bike and joining a local combat biking league at the age of twelve. From the very start, he was a fierce warrior, with an eye for the kill and an extreme opportunist. He quickly became a local champion, for years running and decided that he should further hone his skills.
Using winnings, donations and anything he could "convince" people to give him, he was able to afford a technical school education (not something to take lightly in the Ute) and even some college. His primary area of study was medicine, and right out of school he signed on to DocWagon in one of their HTR teams. Milking his job for all it was worth, he picked up a varied set of skills, including Search & Rescue Operations, Biotech and Low-Altitude Drop. Not only that but he learned tactics...and more tactics.
War Eagle's problem was that he got a taste for the hunt. He started liking to kill. Unfortunately this led to a series of high-profile bloodbaths and DocWagon was nice enough to release him from his contract (Perhaps they were too afraid to try and kill him).
Being the resourceful fellow that he is, War Eagle used his hunting experience and friends to start up a hunting business specializing in exotic game. Touristy kind of stuff, for the corporate types. The basic, trap the prey, give goober the gun and let him take the kill...and an exorbitant extra cost if the loser wants the hide or a bust of his "catch". You know the deal..
Well, War Eagle must be cursed or something, because some poor slob, son-of-a-top-executive on his first hunt got himself geeked somehow. War Eagle still doesn't know how it all went down and strongly suspects foul play but all he knows is that it took some major favors to evade the wrath of the guy's dad and now War Eagle is out of business.
Following this, War Eagle got himself involved with merc-for-hire operations and in his spare time organizing smuggling groups operating between the Ute, Pueblo Council and the California Free State. Most of the smuggling involved getting unsavory types of Anglos (that's kind of redundant in the Ute) in and around the place...especially Salt Lake City. When this little business venture got noticed by the guys running things, War Eagle was given a polite but firm invitation to persue business interests elsewhere and an armed escort (more like a convoy) to the CFS border.
Skills Summary: War Eagle is very much a Leader in terms of his personality. He has a small but extremely proficient set of skills. What he lacks in skillsets he makes up for in the fact that he is both a walking tank and a brilliant tactician. He has yet to meet a match in this particular area. Being a perfectionist and a need to know everything that's going on around him, he's a bit demanding of the people that he leads/works with, but it keeps together a tight-knit and efficient team and all the angles are ALWAYS covered.

The two concept characters I have is.
1. Field Medic Level 8 Specializing in field surgery, with small arms training.
2. Merc for higher. The type who has a morale code which he lives buy.
I would have to say I would have to take chance with the werc for higher, as his morale codes may not suite the campaign.
Yet with all the extra Karma I could specialise with a Bear shamen field medic who uses convetional medicine as well as magic.
Yet even I could try the straight forward cybered field medic, or just a plan field medic.

"The Panther" was a feared name amongst the temple guards of Aztlan, the Amazonian guardian had made himself seen once again as he ripped through yet another platoon of guards who were out collecting taxes in the distant villages. His black form tore through them and left nothing but sickening carnage everywhere. More hunting parties were sent out, bounties were raised, but this mythical animal had become a legend amongst the commoners who were forced to live under the iron heel of Aztlan, something that had finally stood up and fought back. The guerillas became more motivated, attacks against Aztlan increased 10 fold over the past 4 months since the Panther attack started.
Panther is a shamanic warrior who has made magic his bed fellow, and used it to perfect his body into that of a killing machine. Despite all of that, the man who becomes the Panther, Cornelius, is a well educated gentleman who performs his vigilante work against the oppressors. His vengeance for his parent's deaths being paid back a thousand fold.

SIN: Unknown
Name: Unknown
Street Name: “The Grim Reaper”
Metatype: Troll
Gender: Male
Asset: *Magically active*
Location: Puyallup
Of the official records that's been compiled of The Reaper, he is known to be a part of the Spurned Wraiths wiz-gang in Puyallup and to use magic extensively. He has been seen to have a wide breadth of magical talent from knowledge to usage, theory to history, and especially, Astral combat; how he acquired such information leads many to believe he is formally trained – military or perhaps, corporate. It is known that he prefers to spend much of his time in Astral space meeting with other Awakened souls in "social meets". Attempts at "personnel pruning" while in that realm have proven to be universally unsuccessful.

1. Yes 5000 yen buys a Karma point
2. The Intiatory group is only if the players agree to the team karma pool. That isnt to say i will not pick someone because they dont want it.
3. Your background can come into play as appropriate.
4. My hopes is it is a campaign, thats why i want only dedicated players.
5. You will be traveling alot, provided this becomes a campaign.
6. You will be mercenaries in the sence of soldiers of fortune.
Kiedo:
Sounds good, only thing is Marine officers are not rifle handlers in the sence of snipers, that is enlisted men.
There is an alternative: Marine Gunner, which is a prior enlisted man who has been picked for the Gunner program. The program creates the Gunner into an Infantry specialist in all MOS's. The insignia is a bursting bomb (looks like an angry pineapple) and an oak leaf on the other collar. This is an actual rank in the Marine Corps.

Staff Sgt. Daniel Townsend
“Down Town”
Creator: Shadow
Ork Scout/Sniper Ex-CAS Army
Age: 29 Height: 5’10
Weight: 180lbs
Downtown is your average orc. Average for an Orc who has spent 8 years as an elite operative for the UCAS Military. He quit the military and went solo with a group of fellow mercs until an incident in
Azerbaijan left him and a buddy high and dry.
Danny has been free lancing out of Seattle since. He likes the freedom of being his own man so to speak. He is fluent in half a dozen languages, can and does use a variety of weapons.
EDIT: Added complete history for those interested. [ Spoiler ]
History
Daniel townsend “Downtown” to his friends goblinized at 11 years old. He lived in the slums of Atlanta Georgia. 3 years into high school the quiet, shy ork was very good at avoiding his fellow schoolmates. Who made a practice of beating the crap out of him whenever possible. Unbeknownst to Daniel he was using his adept abilities to avoid the beatings. Once on the way home he was unable to avoid the 5 gangers who were pursuing him. He was in the local mall when he saw the Recruiting station for the CAS army. He ducked in because he figured he would be safe. He talked to the recruiter and found out a lot about the army and himself. He could join without parental consent at 17 (which he was) at the moment he also did not need to complete high school. He thought about the offer on the way home. Which is probably why the gang was able to find him. They beat the hell out of him. The next day he joined the CAS army.
He picked 11-Bravo (Infantry) as his specialty, more because he felt after infantry training he would never get beat up again. During indoctrination his magical nature was revealed to him. He was pulled aside while waiting in one of the many lines. He was told what he was and what his potential was. And if he chose, the Army could help him unlock it. So far they had done nothing but help him, so he signed. 14 weeks later Daniel Townsend graduated Basic Infantry training a changed ork. Strong, agile and full of confidence. During the 12 week Advanced Infantry course it came out that Daniel was very good with a rifle, incredibly so. Immediate after he graduated Advanced school he as loaded on a bus and went to the other side of the Fort. For the next four weeks he trained at the Airborne Infantry School. Upon completing his 5th jump he graduated and wore the red barrette. But not for long. David was assigned to the 6th infantry division, 123rd battalion in Florida. He served there for 6 months. Shortly after being promoted to PFC he received orders to attend the Air Assault course at Fort Polk Louisiana. Over the three week course he learned how to jump put of helicopters. After completing the course he was held there and assigned to the 3rd Battalion headquarters to work as an armorer. He was stationed there for 6 months and then sent to PLDC school in Virginia. He graduated the 8 week Non commissioned Officers course at the top of his class. After only a year in the Army he was on the shortlist for Sergeant. David had found in himself a depth of loyalty, courage, honor, and patriotism he had never know. Loyalty, duty, honor were not just words to him.
After PLDC school he was flown to the Joint Training Command in Honolulu Hawaii. Where the Path Finder school taught him how to survive and fight in almost any situation. He stayed on as a Corporal at PF school to be a adjunct instructor for two years. His original enlistment was coming to a close and David was offered some choices if he chose to re-enlist. He picked Sniper school and the CAS was glad to give it to him. On the beginning of his 4th year in the CAS army David attained 2 things. The black rifle in a sniper scope on his chest (next to the wings with a parachute, and the wolfs head) and the rank of e-5, Buck Sergeant. It was at this point the David earned the nick, Downtown. For his amazing ability with a riffle to put a bullet anywhere he wanted it. After achieving sniper school David was assigned to the 181st Airborne division stationed in Italy. He spent two years there as a sniper. He was often put on “Leave”. He was tasked by the NAC for special ops. He was out in the field more than he was in the base. He shared a barracks with the 181st, but he usually was on assignment in Germany or Russia.
8 years after joining the CAS army Daniel attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and graduated from Ranger school in Fort Benning Georgia. His acceptance to SF was dependent on him successfully completing Ranger school at Fort Benning.
SF training started rather roughly at FT. Brag where he spent the first few days in the REC. Downtown was arrested by the MP’s for belting a officer in the jaw at a local bar. Luckily the officer was not wearing a uniform, nor did he identify himself. After that minor altercation DT got up and running in the SF program. Like all of the schools before him the strong willed ork put his back to it and excelled. The shooting wasn’t a problem, nor was electronics. He had a tough time learning the languages of his region, Eastern Europe and the middle east. He did well enough to pass though and before his 9th year was up he found himself stationed at the 1st special forces command at Fort Polk, Louisiana.
A year after he joined the elite SF units Danny, and his unit, was deployed to a small country called Basarah. It hid itself in the shadows of the larger Arabic countries and tried hard to stay out of the way. The CAS was trying to promote a change in government do to the high traffic of illegal narcotics that flowed from the small country strait into the CAS. The SF’s mission was to aid locals in raiding shipments as well as teach them tactics. Unfortunately the rebels were little better than the government they were trying depose. Instead of destroying the drugs like they agreed to do in exchange for help, they stockpiled them, and sold them to finance the rebellion. When Danny’s unit showed the evidence to the CAS there controllers turned a blind eye. When the rebels started executing locals who wouldn’t play ball, Downtown had enough.
On a windy day in the middle of the desert Downtown set his trap. He was on a hill over looking a small village the rebel leader was do to ‘visit’. Danny had used his access to the comm. Gear to over hear that the leader was planning on giving the village a choice, “send all your men to fight, or we kill you ourselves.” The leader arrived onsite at the specified time. When the man exited his vehicle, a 7.62 round exited his skull. To all the bystanders it was as if his head simply exploded.
While they were unable to prove that it was Downtown who pulled the trigger there was sufficient evidence to pull him out. Disgusted with his government Danny asked to ETS and exit the service. Danny now freelances out of the Seattle area as a merc for hire.

May I recomend and request the use of Rayguns weapons (not his rules) they certainly add to the feel of a tactical oriented game.
HobbeGoblin
May 12 2005, 05:18 PM
The guns from Rayguns would be on a case by case issue...being as they are current weapons which would be antiques by the time they reach 2064. In an impoverished area they may be more readily available. I dont have a problem with a similarly modeled weapon made using the weapon creation rules in the cannon companion though.
Shadow
May 12 2005, 05:38 PM
The reasoning is that a lot of gun models stay in circulation for a long time. The Colt 1911 is still produced today even though it came out almost a hundred years ago. Along with the MP5 (which came out in the 60's) and many other weapons. SO to say that the Glock 20 on RG's page isn't an antique Glock 20, it is a Glock 20 produced in 2063. Much like if you buy a Ford Thunderbird today it is not the same model produced in the 50's.
My point being that the guns add a variety of tactical flavor that is otherwise missing from Shadowrun. Having said that, a case by case basis is good enough for me

If the players picked dont wish to have the team karma pool then another avenue is available:
Collegium Legio Spathas
Also known as "The War College"
Accepts Mages, Shamans (of battle type totems), and PhyAds
Fraternity, Oath strictures
The College is split into Cohorts numbering from 10 to 30 members. (This may be seen as a circle in some traditions)
There are 10 known Cohorts with a mixture of social cohorts made up of members of the different cohorts who gravitate towards each other due to interests.
Rating 12 Libraries and lodges in Cohort houses, the College it self is a rating 15 library.
Titles within include: Legionare( includes immunes and Triarii)
Immunes- exempt from certain duties
Triarii- 3rd rank, no title/rank but trusted and valued as one
with title/rank.(this was the veteran warriors of Rome, and
the term to fall back on the Triarii meant a battle would go
badly without the Triarrii.
Centurian- Cohort leader or title based on achievement
All members have a tattoo: I TAN I EPI TAS (greek: WITH YOUR SHIELD,OR ON IT)

I know just about nill of military ranks. I had kind of intended him to be like the Director of counter terrorism or counter intelligence, but doing work for both groups and figured that he would need to be an officer to head up a division like that, I was going to make him a Liuetenant Coronel but I decided that it might be a bit much though my grandfather retired from the service as a lieutenant Coronel after 20 years. I'm assuming you know more about the military then I do, so I'll leave it open to your suggestion before I write up the detailed background.
Also jack could double as the leader for the group, since he retired a middle rank officer. And he's not a sniper, I don't like snipers, his job for the team would be to indentify and take out snipers. Playing a sniper doesn't leave much to the imagination, but playing counter sniper could give more depth to the character.
He would be good leadership material, I plan on making him a nice well rounded character not just a over speciailized killing machine, though he will be extremely deadly.
HobbeGoblin
May 13 2005, 12:18 AM
There is the job of just counter-intelligence 0211, they promote through their ranks almost exclusively ie their officers are over 75% prior enlisted from the ranks of the MOS. The MOS isnt available till the rank of Corporal. After the mandatory 6 month indoctrination period your next schools are CQB, and airborne (parachuting) school. Ranger and sniper school as mission tempo dictates.
On a side note: snipers are used as counter-snipers.....takes a thief to catch a thief theory in motion.

the leadership role will have to be decided by the players. I will say this though...you do have a Manager/Handler if the team opts for the team karma pool he is a free contact (lvl 3) to every member of the team. If they dont opt for it, he's mainly just a Mr. Johnson with a good rep. I'm not trying to force feed anyone the team karma pool and it shouldnt be voted on until i've chosen the players. I'm just throwing out perks as 10% of your "accumalated" karma in the characters life is a heavy price. Like I stated before I'm not forcing anyone into it and since it wont be decided until after I've picked it isnt a factor in the choosing.

Okay Sniper guys....dont forget the first part of the nom. the Marines use...Scout Sniper.
Kiedo
May 13 2005, 02:53 AM
Jack could scout, well he could do just about anything combat related, due to previous training, he was the leader of a Counter Terrorist team and worked closely with the Counter Intelligence guys, so it would make sense for him to know each of his team's jobs, just incase of a stray bullet or an ambush.
I had no idea that snipers were counter snipers too, but it makes perfect sense, I just kind of assumed that it was just part of a team and somebody needed to worry bullets from no where. He wouldn't make a good team sniper though, assualt rifles simply don't have the range for it(better than a holdout pistol, but still not 1,000 meters it's 550 for anybody who doesn't know it off the top of their head), and I don't feel like shelling out that kind of cash for a rifle, though the 121 looks pretty cool...

Call me Archangel.
Nice to meet you Mr.? Johnson, right.
My fixer tells me you're looking for a runner with military experience.
Yes, I was a Lt. Col in the U.C.A.S.' Special Operations Teams.
Yes, I'm a mage. That is what you asked for, correct?
So, just because I'm a mage I'm not supposed to be able to handle myself in a fight? Sorry to disappoint you.
My story? Why not, I've got a few minutes. Buy me a drink and we'll talk...
I never pictured myself a military man. In fact, I never saw myself leaving Puyllup. Running the streets with my friends, robbing good, honest folk, and harassing… well pretty much anyone who struck my fancy was my idea of a good time. All that changed when I, mistakenly of course, found myself in the possession of some stolen property. It must have fallen out of the undercover police officer’s pocket while I was mugging him. The judge was less than understanding. Can you believe that? He told me I had to join the military or go to jail! I would have strangled him and spit on his corpse if there hadn’t been three polices officers between us, and the fact that I was handcuffed (they do that when you bite) to my chair. I was so pissed off I could have chewed nails! It was then that a fire erupted in the center of the courtroom. The doctors told me later that it was my latent magic ability manifesting. Hell, I was nearly seventeen, well past the usual age for that sort of thing. But things like that do happen so I’m told. I spent until my seventeenth birthday in juvee and the court “emancipated” me. This means, of course, they chained me to a bus and sent me to boot camp. Upon retrospect it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I found that discipline and three free meals a day agreed with me.
After boot I was assigned to the Mage Corps where I was to learn how to use my newly discovered abilities. I found that I excelled at it. My photographic memory served as an invaluable tool in learning spell formulae. I poured myself into my work and absorbed all I could. Three years later I emerged 2nd Lt. James Evans. I spent the next three years hopping from one theatre to another. During a stint in South America I met a Colonel from the 35th Special Ops. He recruited me and I spent the next ten years running gray and black ops on nearly every continent.
I wrapped up my obligations and decided to go home. I found that my friends hadn’t changed much. They were happy to see me initially. But I had grown up and they hadn’t. Sell out, traitor, the man’s pet; all names they had for me. I found that without work James was a dull boy. So, I packed up my toys and went looking. Germany, Belgium, Brazil, anywhere someone was looking for “skilled” labor. Now I'm back in Seattle on vacation. So, you have my references, my resume, and my life story. Are you interested in my services or not? I don’t have all day. Time is money and you've burned enough of mine...

I wouldn't mind getting in on this game. I'm a pretty reliable poster, at least as far as frequency and dedication are concerned.
I usually play magician characters, typically shamanic, and only occasionally hermetic. I have been wanting to play an adept scout-type character of mine for a long time now, and at this power level, it should be possible to properly reflect the variety of skills that should be involved in real spec-ops-type campaigns.
Anyway ...

Race: Human Amerindian
Occupation: Staff Sergeant (ret), Freelance Security Consultant
Sex: Male
Height: 1.88m.
Weight: 96kg.
Hair: Black ponytail
Eyes: Ice blue
Age: 27
Field of Expertese: Scout/point man
Skills: hand-to-hand and several ranged combat skills (including bow), high stealth, mid-to-high level skills in most military-related, active, non-combat skills, etc.
More info on demand. I have a basic outline and background in mind, but I find things may change when it comes down to the actual numbers involved. I will definitely be purchasing a bit of Karma. I would also be interested in the Initiatory Group, and have no real interest in a Team Karma Pool. In my opinion, unless the characters are all members of an already established unit, as opposed to individual, best-of-the-best merc-types, Team Karma really makes no sense.

The night pressed down on the land like a warm blanket. Stuffy, and just plain hot in a way that made the tongue feel taut and the tongue dry. The silent 'whip-whip-whip' of the heli's propellors broke through the silence onboard, revealing a team of black outfitted rebels looking down at the Teocalli, the red lights from their night goggles creating an eerie effect in the darkness. In paired unison they jumped, diving for the pyramid-like temple below. The last one out was not a man, but a Hawk the size of a man. As the men activated the metal drone strapped to their chest, suddenly reducing their air speed as the drone slowed down their aerial fall. With a practiced percision, the team landed at the balcony near the top of the Teocalli.
The Hawk landed on the top, transforming into the Black Panther as he stalked his way down the steep incline of the Teocalli. Jaguar Gaurds never knew what hit them, the silenced rifles carefully picking them off as a Panther wreaked havoc through their midst. Within mere seconds, the guards were deactivated, and the Teocalli was theirs for the taking. The Panther slipped off into the darkness, the stench of blood already ruining the night air as the heat caused the stench to strengthen.
[OOC: Seemed the best way to describe my character is through story, so until characters are chosen, I'll post a new 'story' for the reading pleasure of everyone.

Most counter-sniper operations in the field involve a radio operator calling mortars or artillery. Using snipers as spotters in the field to narrow down the area, sniper as counter-sniper is more an urban enviroment concept.

[ Spoiler ]
Dawson Jude joined the UCAS Marines right out of high school at the tender age of eighteen. After five years and obtaining the rank of Staff Sergent he applied for OCS - Officier Canididate School - and otained the rank of 2nd Leiutenent and given the prestigious job of Marine Recon. His six years leading men through the active engagements both forign and domestic sharpened him to a perfect edge. Arriving at the rank of Captain he was head hunted by personal from the Central Intelligence Agency and brought in to be trained as an agent.
The marine made weapon was again schooled in espinoage and counter-intelligence. He learned alot more about handling people with a softer hand then a harden fist to the mouth. Though the fist to the mouth still gets results from those who laugh at the soft hand method. The young black man reinvented and evolved himself from the rough gung-ho marine to the sauve sophiticated spy helping out the UCAS against other spies and playing odds against dangerous entities. Dawson has dedicated himself to be the best of the best, doing it first and with superior efficincy.
Another five year stint took Dawson all over the world and into parts where a CIA man ususually is not welcomed with open arms. Daswon enjoyed the work, somtimes taking on cases from the NSA that needed to be finessed. By the time of his departure from the CIA, he was heading up small operations into the Mexico and the NSA lands, bringing in the information about the movements of these on-again, off-again, enemies. Dawson started to chafe under the buerucratic bongling of one particular superior which made him reflect on his work. It was good work of course, and he helped alot of people, but the people who called the shots were the ones benefiting from his work. Too many times had a promotion come up that Dawson was skipped. It eventually doned on him that he was going to be mover in the Company, not a shaker.
With this reliziation Dawson finished up his current missions, requsted a stateside assignment and turned in his resignation. It was time to work for himself, it was time to see what being a professional merc would do for him. Deacon Bullet is not shy about his views on Shadowrunning, its a dumb job for dumb people. It dosen't mean he wouldn't do it out of boredom, but Johnson has learned not to trifle with Dawson, especially after he suppossedly gutted the last Johnson that tried to screw him over.

Fool me twice, shame I'll have to rip your intestines out now.'

Go-kart
Dwarf Ex-Ganger/Vehicle Rigger
Working in a chop-shop was as close as he ever got to a legitimate career, but it taught him alot about cars, and gave him a doorway to the shadows. He got his name when he built himself a "car" from scrap parts, and brought it to the boulevard to race the big boys. They had their custom imports and muscle cars, while his looked like a suped-up golf cart. He didn't beat anyone, but he impressed (and entertained) everyone there. That night, he was approached by the leader of a local car-jacking ring, and offered some work.
He started working exclusively for the gangers and eventually became a full member, handling all their mechanical needs, which were many, considering the amount of cars they boosted. Usually, he was given a pretty fair cut, and started to make out real well. Alot of his money was spent on rigger-ware, and he soon became the best handler in the gang, too. He started going on runs with them, speeding off with the goods after they busted in.
In time, the gang got real good. They started going for bigger targets, like hospital choppers, the odd LAV, yachts, and even an entire UPS airplane (mail included). They got too good. The heat was no problem, but when actual crime syndicates took notice, the drek hit the fan.
The powerful Italian mafia forced them into very unfavorable working conditions, and used their influence to control their actions. They also started taking huge cuts. It reached the point where it was easier to flee. The gang disbanded and found other ways to use their skills.
It was relatively easy for Go-kart to fake a fiery death and then make his way down to Mexico, to fight as a mercenary in the constant skirmishing going on down there. It was a good way to push his limits, and he became a decent combat pilot. He could get behind the lines better than most, and could hold his own in a firefight.
[OOC - I'll leave off there. Kind of want to leave some options open for myself at this point, and I know I'll get carried away, if I haven't already.]

Everything was wrong, the moon was in the wrong orbit, the stars were aligned incorrectly, the fog even seemed to press in too thickly, that should have been my first clue. But I am a warrior borne, and we had a mission that I was going to see through. A Cabal had been identified, information brought to us from an outside source. Sure, we should have delved more deeply into the source in hind-sight, but we'd become immortals, immune to those that plagued the lands in our own minds. Our objective didn't even exist, their objective... was me.
We arrived at the glade, a patch of grass and rocks inside a canyon which hid it from the rest of the world, we stealthily made our approach, me in my Panther form, taking the lead. Down the steep cliff, not a single loose rock was touched in the descent. It was as perfect as our other raids, this time however, we couldn't see our targets. Sure, the fog, the darkness, there were a ton of reasons in our mind's eye, but we should have been smarter, there was no sound. Then there was... a high pitched noise that had all of us crouched down to the ground, not that it did any good, night flares went off all above our heads, a thick green gas started to cover the entire area from wall to wall.
The others were wise, they ran, escaping the gas before it took them over, I relied on magick, wanting to remain unseen, I put up an Oxegenate spell to overcome the sickness raining down around me, crouched up under a rock, relying on the black fur to keep me from sight, just another shadow on the walls. However, stealth didn't help a whole helluva lot when they searchers are spirits of the land.
To make a long story short, it was over for me. I'd been captured by none other than the Shamans of the enemy, magic to fight magic, sound strategy. Paralyzed from the gas that was too strong for my spell, I was dragged into the earth, our information having been somewhat correct, only about 6 meters higher than the Cabal actually was. I knew the torture and interrogtion to come, having prepared myself for it for weeks now, should I ever be captured. But, as if to keep me on my toes, they released me under the ground, dispelling the spell that maintained my panther form.
"You are sought by the government for crimes against the State, the bounty on your head is high enough to turn even a peasant's head toward you. Your life is forfeit, yet still, you never stop fighting.", a voice I recognized said loudly in the echo of the cavern, stepping forward I saw Alonzo, someone I considered a friend, a powerful Shamanic type who fought at my side... He was with these Jaguar Guard types? Then I noticed that about half the faces were those I recognized as allies, and the other half were definitely enemies. I nearly choked on how many 'traitors' were in our midst. "For that reason, you are being given a chance to join us. You are too powerful an ally to lose now, but now that you are finding out about us, the choice is to join, or die I'm afraid my friend.", did he say ally?
This was my introduction to the Collegium Legio Spathas, a group of warrior borne shamans and mages (although in the Aztlan rebellion, that was 90% Shamans), the tattoo was branded onto me as I accepted their offer, an offer unrefuseable, not because of the threat of death, the threat almost made me refuse actually, but rather, because they were the most powerful weapon I'd ever seen for my own cause. The Jaguar type Shamans were the spies, not those I called friends. Spies caused by the damage to the forests and landscape by those they started out protecting. Aztlan created their own traitors through their actions. Life from here changed dramatically. I'd become a part of a well oiled machine.

Name: Jason "Johnny Reb" Jackson
Specialty: Vehicle Rigger/Weapon Spec
Background: Hunting and cars were the things on a teenager's mind in the sleepy little town in Alabama that Johnny hailed from. However, he took both to a whole new level. He managed to curtail some of his fun to apprentice with the local mechanic to earn the money for his first VCR, and to tinker on his old fixer upper.
As he was nearing graduation, one of Johnny's friends introduced him to Edward Maxwell. He was looking for new recruits to help him fight the Azzies. Johnny, being proud of his family's military heritage that could be traced all the way back to the great Stonewall Jackson, jumped at the opportunity to defend the boarders of his country.
No, this wasn't the military. But rather a branch of the Sons of the Alamo, that was out to turn the cold war with Aztlan hot, and hopefully get the full force of the CAS to take back the Texas territory that was lost...and then some. It was here that Johnny developed a love for military grade weapondry for the places where his rides just couldn't take him. The pay was good, and gave him access to items that he wouldn't have dreamed of having back home.
It was too good to last, though. Eventually one of the border patrol stations they hit turned out to be a heavily fortified ambush. What was left of the unit was scattered to the winds. So he was left adrift in Texas, a rebel with a cause, but unfortunatly without the support to follow it.

Keep the 10 karama in reserve as ALL players must accept the team karma pool idea. I believe its a good idea but, its up to the players picked and i wont be basing my decisions on the team karma pool. In fact it shouldnt be discussed till after picking in the ooc post i'll create.
