UPDATED POST:

Thanks for all the help guys! I've taken down the rough maps and posted the more complete (downloadable) maps and a general description of A-Technologies on my GM Campaign Blog. You can view it here. http://fromtheshadowsrpggm.blogspot.com/se.../A-Technologies

What software did you use to make this map? It looks exactly like the official ones. Very nice work, your l33t map making skillz make me jealous twirl.gif

Bravo sir, I greatly admire you skills.<<downloads quickly and saves same>> biggrin.gif

I use Illustrator for all my maps and InDesign for any overlays, copy and so forth.

I would see most of the security being focused on the outside of the building. A few acres around the facility, nice green verdant lawn, nice trees. But all that hiding sensor nets, patrolling drones, defensive lighting, human patrols with paracritter handlers. Once inside, aside for maglocks of various and appropriate strenght, there wouldn't be anything very hard. Sort of a zero-zone approach.

You can't beat live security. Automation is nice and all, but as anyone who's played some of the nicer mods for Tribes can tell you, nothing beats the old Mark I Eyeball (or a Mark II, for that matter).

Cameras and other sensors can extend the range that a single person can cover. If it was me, there would be cameras and other sensors at every entrance, as well as at all of the major junctions.

There are a lot of things that would be in a corporate HQ missing. Departments like Accounting and Payroll for example should have a significant footprint in the Building. Human Resources, Marketing, Sales, Operations, Purchasing, IT, and Supply Chain Managemnet all seem to be missing as well. Many medium and larger businesses also employ a variety of quality assurance programs, and these require staff and office space too, even if their actual value is questionable.

Remember that in any profit oriented business, Sales is the most important department. Without a competent sales force the best product, thought up by the best R&D people, guarded by the best security force is absolutely worthless.

Map is pretty good looking though, nicely rendered.
Backgammon
That's true, I don't think the map fits a corporate HQ, more like a single-purpose R&D facility. But whatever, it can still do fine.

I partly agree and partly disagree. You CAN beat live security. You can coerce it, you can trick it, you can disable it - just like automated security. One is not better than the other. Striking a good balance between the two is key, as variety is key. Overlapping security schemes are what work best. All tech is no more secure than all metahuman.

Actually, Single-Purpose R&D Facility is a much better description. Sorry about that.

Thanks for all the security ideas. I haven't used paracritters in my game yet, so my players are in for a big surprise. smile.gif

Very nice. Add a security fence with mono-wire at the top all around the perimeter with live guards at the only gate. Pairs of metahuman guards on scheduled patrols with 1 barghest each pair around the inside of the fence. Have a security rigger monitoring cameras inside with a few drones at his or her beck and call. Two patrols (in pairs, not animals) around the interior as well. If it is a data grab, have the files located on an offline server, with scramble ice embedded in the file. Grey ice in the system.

I've updated the original map and added the 2nd floor to the original post.

You may wonder what's up with the apartments upstairs... There are a couple very important people working at A-Technologies, that are not allowed to leave the facility and are RFID chipped. smile.gif

I've also added bathrooms (knew something was missing) and a few of the missing departments stevebugge mentioned. Thanks!

Put the apartments down on the first floor, and make them empty out into the reception area, so that people going in can pass through the security area. This way, any hookers, pizza deliverymen, etc will have to pass though the security area to get into the apartments, then back out through the security area on their way out or if they want to get into the rest of the building.

Move the kitchen and dining room down to the first floor/security area as well. I'd assume that the place employs catering/kitchen staff who you don't want to give access to the rest of the building. In addition the kitchen will have to take regular deliveries of food and move out all the food related trash, better to put them near the entrance.

This allows you to try to limit people who get onto the second floor to only those guys who are supposed to be there. Limit the access to the second floor by controlling the stairwell and second floor windows.

Well something must have gone haywire as I have tried several times but the links go no where.
edrift101
Hmmm. Just checked them both and the maps loaded just fine. GoDaddy (my server) must have been having issues.

If it's an R&D facility you don't typically need the fancy entrance. People entering are going to be vendors trying to sell stuff, customers escorted by senior salesoids, people who work there, and company VIPs.

You need more to ensure that bad things don't happen to the people or stuff inside. So I'd do a long narrower entrance corridor that can be covered by weapon and chem sensors, with the entrance lobby being a small space with all the doors locked. Exits from the lobby should all be controlled and require that the receptionist unlock the door or that they badge through the doors. After hours I'd close the corridor with a security door.

Vendors and visitors go into the waiting area, employees go though a door into the building itself. For really sensitive sites you use a second door designed to prevent tailgating, like turnstyles and other such stuff.

For vendors and visitors you need a conference room (or 3) right off the waiting area that doesn't have the person going through or by sensitive areas. The security c&c is something to keep deeper in the building. I like the display area.

Access to R&D should be much better controlled. I'd suggest putting it on the second floor (behind at least two access controlled doors) and putting sales on the first. R&D normally involves labs and such instead of just desks.

The other area to harden is shipping and receiving, as there are a lot of untrusted people moving in and out of there. It should be positively isolated from the rest of the building, and the dock area separated from storage by enough distance that the delivery guy can't "accidentally" end up in storage areas.

Did you download symbol libraries, or make your own? I have Illustrator and InDesign, and wouldn't mind trying them out for this kind of thing.

Hmm... I disagree. Well, depends. If it's just a R&D hub part of a larger corporation with no dealings of it's own, then fancyness is less required. If it's a standalone R&D corp, it will want to have to go as fancy as possible. When potential clients walk in there to, you want them to Wow them.

In both cases, though, making it fancy, open and green is a boon to the R&D people working there. Thinking is not like manufacturing. Your employees need to feel comfortable to be creative. Look at the Googleplex. It's not awesome for the hell of it. It's awesome it makes Big Brains think better.

pbangarth, I've been making my own symbols in Illustrator.

Eventually, I'll have a nice complete set of vector graphics, that I'll make available in an .ai or .eps file.

My work office is similar in size just replicate the number of building x4.

We have cameras watching each external door (visible), numerous 360-degree type outside ones on building corners and security patrols (unarmed) that seem to cover the campus every 30-45mins. There is one centrally located security office/monitoring/processing area that all patrols come from.

Access control consists of RFID type name badges as well as physically being seen my reception/security persons into public areas that don't require badges.

We do have wireless networks accessable across the 4 buildings (one private, one public one) for guests and legit users.

Server rooms and data center locations are cryptically labled like "MDF Room" or some other non-descrip title.

Now step up the paranoia for 2070 and you've got a basis to work from!

Cheers,
Jrayjoker
Grinder,I like your suggestions.

edrift101, thanks for the updated maps.

Thanks, edrift101, that would be nice.

In the past I've used Microsoft Visio which has office and building constructs built into it. That would be another way to go for those who have the software. It can also save .ai or .eps files.
