Full Version: Firearms/Infantry Supplement

G.NOME
Hey all,

I've been working on a supplement that converts a lot of the gun's of Raygun's list to SR4 stats. I also am statting a lot of guns that he didn't, with an eye towards the guns that are commonly out there in general circulation. I was also going to have a list of firearms by country as a resource for GMs.

I thought a list of "old guns" for GMs would be useful. For example, if your players need a sniper rifle "right now" from a gun dealer in Bangkok, what are they likely to find for cheap? Also, what are the drug dealers and militia members in various countries likely to be packing?

I'm putting a lot of research into the guns, not only looking online but also at Raygun's rules and several other resources (TW2K's Infantry Weapons of the World had some nice formulas for calculating in-game damage of various firearms).

I'm also working up some rules that seem like common sense but never have been put into effect (i.e., muzzle brakes/gas vents increase the noise given off by a bullet leaving the chamber and others). I also have an explanation for some of the alleged "wackiness" of SR's gun rules (which make sense for game balance, but a lot of people moan about).

The question I have is this: since I've already put in like 40 hours worth of work into this thing and will require at least that much more to finish it, is anyone interested in using a supplement like this?

What the other guys have said, even the worshiping gesture too.

Firearm supplements are generally very well received by the community smile.gif

On a side note, while I don't want this to be a "backseat gamer" comment to the massive amount of time you're investing in your project, on the subject of what country has what weapons - have you taken into consideration the changes in world arms manufacturing and selling? Today, arms manufacturers have close ties to governments, so if your government is not friendly towards a certain country, you can't sell them weapons. In SR, the megacorps don't give a hootnany about what government A thinks of government B, they'll sell anything to anyone. So I think you're more likely to find an equal distribution of most weapon models.

Not only would I be interested in using said document, I would be more than happy to contribute. As it is now, I have a spreadsheet that has 4th ed stats for about 180 firearms (most of them real world), and have been pounding away at developing more realistic rules for things like Auotfire, recoil, CQC, etc.

Let me know if you are interested in having a partner.

Oh, and I have 1000s of firearm pics, to boot.

@Ronin: Yeah, I'll contact you about that. I'm trying to make my gun stats jibe somewhat with the "baseline" SR4 stats for different weapon classes (i.e., I don't want to make the old AK-74 massively better than the BBB's AK, because, well, that would defeat the point of having developed a *modern* version, right?). It'll be interesting to see what your stats show. BTW, why haven't you shared this with anyone before? smile.gif

@Backgammon: By focusing on the old guns in a future setting (current modern firearms in 2070), I am able to mostly avoid the problem of trying to guess who will buy what weapons in the time between now and the SR4 time frame. Since I'm trying to provide a resource for "what happens when your runner team is surprised by a Peruvian border patrol"-type scenario, I am focusing on the modern-day firearms that will be the "junk guns" of the future. There are a lot of guns out there and a lot of groups who are trying to keep track of them. For instance, since Aztlan took over Mexico's arms stockpiles, they will would have a large number of FX-05 rifles on hand for potnential distribution to second-line units. I'll have information on the FX-05. The various Chinese nations will have Chinese miltech, etc.

I would be very interested, especially the guns by region/country. It would be nice to have some new options for my players when they're dumped naked and shivering in the middle of Siberia - desperately seeking a hunting rifle for protection smile.gif

...another "Yep!" for this idea.

Well, you'll probably have to tweak the DVs and APs of my weapons then. I changed them a bit to better match up with real world terminal ballistics. The changes aren't really drastic, but they tend to work out better and give players more real choices.

I might consider doing the work for you, but that will largely depend on the time I have available to devote to this.

As for not sharing, do a board search for all posts by me. I've offered to share in the past (and as recent as this thread) but no one has really taken me up on it.

Hell yea.

I want my archaic M-14 sniper rifle again.
TheOneRonin
Why go for an "archaic" M14 when you can have this?

[unabashed bump]

Any progress update?

The nostalgia. Though that does look cool.

I would most certainly appreciate this if you did it.

G.NOME, how dare you allow Real Life™ to impede your work on this supplement. Don't make me summon the angry mob...

I would love to see it, even if my GM would probably never use it.
