Hey does anyone have any advice about shadowrun campaigns in NY? I hear it will be covered in corpate enclaves but will be relegated to a few paragraphs like the extras in runner havens (which means no NY capaign book in the future)

Now I was wondering if anyone knew more about ny then was provided in the old (2nd/3rd ed?) book.

for example i was envious of the detail that seattle and hong kong got in runner havens. even going so far as too list hang outs. The cathode glow sounded awsome for example. Does anyone know of a similar bar in NY?

NY is a big place, create your own. It is unlikely working on that kind of level that you will introduce anything that won't integrate with any official releases.

Just rename cathode ray and put a version in NY . . .

Actually, the Neo-Anarchists Guide of North America created a (very sucky!) version of NYC.

I despised how it handled New Jersey.

New Jersey, until the 1980s, really -was- the Garden State! Until 10 years before I was born, there were corn, tomatoes, etc. farms near my house...Which is maybe 5 mi. from the ocean, in an area which has been a resort area for NYC's rich since the 1800s. ONLY North Jersey, closest to NYC and Newark, could be called the industrial hellhole NJ is so often popularly seen as. It's -still- a rather undeveloped state...And it'd be prime to remain undeveloped, because there aren't natural resources to extract. At worst, it'd be a large mass of Suburbia.

...

But anyway...Actually, NAGNA's depiction of the NY/NJ area sucked generally.

But it was something.

well, there is always the quake...

but overall (early) shadowrun location stuff have often put "would it be cool if..." over realistic representation...

Just FYI, the upcoming settings book Corporate Enclaves will feature New York as a minor setting (the big chapters will be Neo Tokyo and L.A.). There's a possiblity that additonal material on NY might be added elsewhere.

It's been awhile since I've looked at SoNA, but I think it had some updates.

The big thing to remember is that without a legitimate pass or a solid forgery, you aren't going to get anywhere in the Manhattan sprawl.

And sadly, later ones don't.

You mean idiocies like "wouldn't it be kewl if we dropped 4000 square miles of California a mile so they got flooded by the Pacific!" don't happen?
BishopMcQ
Alchera happens.

As a San Diego native, I'm kinda happy to see LA get dropped into the bay. It'll improve the air quality if nothing else. smile.gif

SprawledOut.com is DSE's site right?

True.

There will be a full-length NYC write-up appearing somewhere. I know they'd like to see it on Holostreets, and as long as Holostreets goes up in the near future, I'm all for it.

There are definitely some issues with the NAGNA NYC write-up that I hope to correct.

Some issues?

Only some?

I too found the entry on NY......lacking. Since I live but an hour's train ride form the 'Rotten Apple'.
Especially since the novel Steel Rain made Long Island into a Japanacorp-owner 'Tokyo West'. mad.gif

Here's hoping the new writing in Corporate Enclaves does better.

I'll admit I don't have the most flattering view of Long Island, but I lived there for a few years. wink.gif

I definitely don't see it as Tokyo West, though.

The Corp Enclaves entry will be fairly short, since it's not one of the main entries. But I'm shooting for 45,000 words for the full write-up, which is around the word count I had for Runner Havens Hong Kong.

Oh yeah, I read Neo Aanarchists guide to North America. But I didn't find as much detail as was present in runner havens. One of my biggest questions is fuchi town....is it called nettown now??? That'll probably be in the corp enclaves book though.
Demonseed Elite
No, it's not called Nettown.

so it's called neotown then? biggrin.gif
limejello10512
Well is it still called fuchi town even though fuchi enterprizes doesn't exist??? net town neo town or neonettoen seem like the most likely places.
Demonseed Elite
None of the above!

I've lived on Long Island all my life, & I've always seen it (since reading all of the SR books) as a 'poor cousin' to Manhattan; more room & a good tech-base for the corporations to put their manufacturing & warehouses, lots of neo-runners to find work, and with The Hamptons just a modest panzer-ride away, plenty of opportunity.

Still, I'll look forward to those 45,000 words.

Looking forward to some updated info on New York in Corporate enclaves, while the old background info isn't great, I still find it interesting, theres nothing worse than reading about a picture perfect setting... Besides if u dont like it u can always make ur own version smile.gif

Glad to hear that we might even get a longer writeup on the city through holostreets, personally im hoping that site starts up soon so I can get Shadows of Latin America!
limejello10512
Say, what is holostreets anyway?
Fortune
An Urban Myth.
limejello10512
care to be more specific??? why is it an urban myth...what's the myth?
Demonseed Elite
Holostreets has been a long time coming and did not appear when they initially said it would. I've been told that it will be moving along much more seriously now that the SR license is in the hands of the same people that would be developing Holostreets (and run Battlecorps, the already-online Battletech equivalent website).
