Notes are a good idea, I like that. I did have a good holiday, but I didn't work at all. Probably should have, but I didn't really want to. Now, though, I have to dig myself out of the hole..... Oh well.

Well if your going to do that, maybe you could make it into a true virtual notebook. With separate pages that can be named whatever the poster wants so they can separate NPC's and setting or item info, or however they would choose to have it displayed to their players.

Would also be handy if it were a permanent fixture for a campaign, so very important things could be referenced from the beginnings of the campaign or that item that seemed totally worthless, you can figure out where you left it or who you sold it to, or that you thought it would be a good idea to strap some C4 to it just to see what it would do. I know it would require a lot of storage space but it would be pretty cool, and if it is text only then that cuts down on a lot of the potential space.

Notes (regardless of how they're arranged) is definitely something I'll include. My idea was simply to make the Notes tab a wiki interface. That way a person can create as many different pages within their Notes tab as they want to. We'll see what happens.
Method
Hey Dashifen, any progress on the Shadownet front? Just curious. I know real life has a way of interfering with projects like this...
Dashifen
There could be. I kinda just stopped working on it because it seemed like there was decreased interest in it and the online game that I was playing in ended so a personal attachment to the project was somewhat lacking. I still have all the code and what not so I could pick it up if others are interested in it. I'm putting together a vehicle modification system from Arsenal at the moment, but I might have a solid working beta by the end of the weekend for that system and I could take a break from that and get back to this. The part I got stuck on was the tabbed interface to the private messaging, images, and notes side of the application.

I wasn't aware of this, it sounds like a great idea. Allow me to heap encouragement on you.

And we should bitch up a storm and get that online game going again wink.gif

Or start a new one and let me know what kind of character I should start building... devil.gif

with no gaming group for miles and miles.... I really need this. So here comes the praise

Works for me. I'll put it back on my list. biggrin.gif

As always, let me know if there's anything I can do to help!!

Unfortunately, for this one it's basically just straight coding. I think what's probably best is if I start from scratch with respect to the right-hand side of the interface which has to cover multiple features. Trying to adapt my earlier code to work in the newer interface design was not going well.

I'll second that.

Just discovered this project and it looks like something I'd like to try out - I have a player leaving the state in a month or so and the group isn't keen on loosing her.

(Ironically, she's moving to Seattle.)

If she's looking for a local group to play with, send her my why. Me and a few other Dumpshockers are trying to get a regular group together out here.

I was quite interested in this project back when you started; I currently have 2 friends away from my main group and I and have been trying to figure out a way to get them "back in the game" per-say. I have been keeping my eye out for updates, but I now see why there have been none.

Alright, I did a lot of work over the weekend to get the right hand side of the screen running personal messages, image uploading and sharing, and some basic note taking features. My question is this:

With respect to the notes, should those notes be for everyone or for individuals? It seems like it'd be useful in both cases. The rest of the interface on that portion of the screen is all for shared activities: message communication and image sharing. Thus, it might be nice to just stick a wiki screen there and let all the members of a game session have at it, but I can also see the need for individuals to keep their own notes. I could add another area for personal notes, but I'm running out of screen real-estate!
Method
Yo Dashifen,

My original thinking was to have only the GM (or whoever opened the session) be able to edit it, but it might be more useful if anyone can edit, especially for the GM because then he can see how the players are interpreting the story line, clues, plot devices, etc.

So I think a single wiki would suffice. If individual players really want to take their own notes they can always cut/paste/edit into a different app.

Dashifen
Or ... gasp! ... use a pen and paper (NO!)
Dashifen
FYI: I'm almost ready to upload the new code and interface for people to look at. I just have to polish up a few things and we'll be good to go. The Images and Notes pages aren't quite done yet, but I should be able to do them this week or, at the latest, this weekend. My biggest day to work on this (and other side) project(s) is Sunday so my progress is slower. But, I'm still plodding along.

Awesome... I can't wait!!

dunno if this is possible or whatever but how about a button that makes it pop out or away, or make it moveable/hideable/dockable? Like the pallets in Photoshop or something on the order of that?

sorry not a coder at all, just tossin out ideas

edit: Changed opo to pop

Having a Personal & a Group tab for the note section would also work great for space-saving. I would think it would also be more user-friendly.

Look forward to seeing this project.

That's probably the way I'll go then. I worked on image uploading this weekend, which took longer than I thought it would since I also recoded the entire javascript engine because I could. But, it's the sort of thing that needed to get done in the first place. Probably, I'm on the home stretch to get images and maybe notes done this evening. The downside is that I have dental surgery (wisdom teeth) tomorrow so I might miss my primary working time: the weekend.
Solracd
wow,

Please tell me that this is making progress?! I would love to have something like this to bring my SR team in 4 time zones back together.

What is the latest status? I would be thrilled with an alpha test!

Later,
Sol

Currently non-functional but under development. I got a for-profit feelance gig with a deadline of May 4 and after that I'll get back on track for my pro-bono shadowrun programming. I thought I had mentioned that above, but I didn't because I suck.

Here's hoping that the 'sucking' isn't actually an integral part of your current for-profit gig. wink.gif
Faradon
Any news?
Dashifen
Not really. No development for months, but I haven't given up on the idea. I'll return to it when I have the time. I run a for-profit programming business, too, and that has to take precedence over stuff I do for free and for fun. It'll happen, but I have to make my clients happen so that I can buy food, too. biggrin.gif
Dumori
Is this open source? Also what language do you use?
Dashifen
It isn't really open source because it's not done. Once it's done I might let people download it to install elsewhere. It's written in PHP5 with Javascript (Prototype Framework) for the client-side and a MySQL backend.
Dumori
ah PHP not too hot with that I use the more interdependent languages (not the best term though I mean pascal and the C family as well as java I think you'll get what I mean)
DamienKnight
The link leads to a forbidden page. Is this project still online somewhere?
Dashifen
Interesting. I don't know what happened. My other sites are still online (I'd catch hell from my Larpers if that site went down) so I'm not sure exactly why this one's unavailable. Since it's a 403 forbidden error, it might have been the hosting provider that had to kill it for some reason. I'll look into it and get back to you.
