I would appreciate your guys help on this one. We are playing a SR4 game.

A character with a Strength Attribute of 3 has just charged and attempted to perform a lunging kick at another character who has decided to block the attack.

The Attacker has rolled 6 hits and the Defender has rolled 5 hits. The Defender is wearing an Armor Jacket (B8/I6).

I make the Attackers DV to be 3S. So the Damage Resistance Test must be made against a 3S. Am I right? Where to from here so I can resolve this Initiative Pass?

Thanks for helping out guys. I know it sounds like SR4 Melee Combat 101 but a helping hand would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Sounds good so far. Now the defender gets to roll his impact armor (6) + his body for damage resistance. Each hit subtracts one from the damage dealt. (If he gets 3 hits or more, he takes no damage).

How did you get 3S damage?
Punches, kicks, etc. do STR/2 damage. Half of STR 3, rounded up, is 2.

Attacker 1 hit, defender 0 hits: the attack just barely connects, no bonus to DV.
Attack 6 hits, defender 5 hits: mathematically equivalent.

Tarantula, am I off somehow?

You're off because a net hit isn't considered just barely hitting your opponent. Even a single net hit is enough to qualify for an increase in damage value; a winning opposed roll will by definition always fulfill the requirement for gaining at least a one point bonus in damage value. To graze or barely hit your opponent requires a tie in the opposed test, at which time the GM may rule that you touched your opponent and may inflict shock or poison damage even if you didn't accomplish enough to deal damage via sheer impact.
