Full Version: Area 51
Dumpshock Forums > Discussion > Shadowrun
Artemis
It just occured to me that one of the most controversial places lies within the Peublo Corporate Council area, if I'm not mistaken. And I haven't seen a single book reference to the infamous alien crash-landing site.

What, if anything, do we know about it?
Artemis
Ah, I saw a thread from four days back that asked the same question. Not much is known it seems, aside from some mention in [Cyberpirates] and [Target: Smuggler Havens]. So Knight was seen chatting it up with an alien? Interesting.

Area 51 is in Rachell, Nevada. The crash was in Roswell, New Mexico. I don't mean to be mean by correcting you. Just wanted to inform you. grinbig.gif

Area 51 is now on a metaplane. What you see in Nevada is a large illusion maintained by dark powers.

Or at least, that's the sort of thing I'll be subjecting my players to, soon.

Good luck, Charlie.

Depending on who you ask, the aliens casued the Crash in '29.....

Nobody I know says that. I have heard various rumors about Knight and the Immortal Elves though.

Wait for it...wait for it.... wink.gif
Ancient History
They've been hinting for years that the Crash might have been pulling a Gibson. I fully detail it on my site, in the appropriate page.

See? All good things come those who wait. smile.gif

Personally, I think you might want to link your page in the posts in which you advertise it. smile.gif

Dumpshock should just have a big page of SR links. Listed alphabetically. So mine's near the top.

Didn't the virus initiate from NASA CETI mainframes? Wasn't ARES/Knight involved as well?

I understand the reference, but not the expression: "pulling a William Gibson"?

In Willliam Gibson's Cyberspace Trilogy (Neuromancer, Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive), an Uber-artificial intelligence finds proof of another Uber-AI in a series of 30-year old transmissions from Alpha Centauri. The encounter with this Centauri AI breaks the Earth AI into itty bitty pieces.

Ah, thank you.

So does anyone think that Shadowrun's next step will be into outer space? Apparently a few corps got their fingers into the moon's pie when we weren't looking and orbital space is positively cluttered, so obviously the Big Ten have stars in their eyes.

On a related note, has anyone read Eyewitness? If so, any theories on what Dante saw up there?
Ancient History
Ares had had interests in space since it bought out NASA (which bankrupted trying to hide the results of the Mars landings), which leads, of course, to Project: Cydonia and Dunkie's Will; and probably also Tom Tom's ravings regarding Area 51 and Ares.

Oh, Dante?
[ Spoiler ]

Seriously though, I think he just went apeshit when he hit the mana warp. 's not good for you.

Woah, really? Is there proof of this? I always thought that NASA simply suffered from a grotesque lack of funding and when Freedom's orbit began to decay, it found itself with neither the political clout nor the financial wherewithal to do anything about it. That's when Ares stepped in with those tired old lines about the private sector being able to "do it more efficiently." Voilą! Instant corporate space program.

Project whatzit?
(Man, I just look more and more informed the further this conversation progresses.)

Well, it does show that you have not read Missions, and likely missed Dunkie's WIll too.

Correct; when it comes to prioritizing my spending, gaming supplements fall somewhere between "DVDs" and "feather boas" and well below "rent," "tuition" and "comestible proteins." wink.gif

However, I have read the will (and skimmed your annotated version) but found no direct, clear explanation for what happened to NASA and its Mars missions. IRL, I think Project: Cydonia was concerned with photographing a particular section of Mars and specifically finding a rational explanation for why a human face could be distinguished amidst the rock formations--am I close?

What?! Damn, if I wanted to play Spelljammer I'd play freakin' Spelljammer.

Are you close? No.

Oh, and just ignore the dragon rumor.
