Hi all,
It has been ages since I have last talked here. I was a long time Cyberpunk player and now I am moving towards playing Shadowrun (thanks also to ToreaadorVampire who runs a game for us on Sundays), who was a former Renraku Arcology security employee.
So it meant I had to read up on Deus, at least what I could find, Renraku Arcology Shutdown and Brainscan. So now that I have gotten to Brainscan, where books have the story which culminates in the great netcrash and a change to 4e type of Matrix?
Is Deus still around in 2070? What about Magaera?

Threats 2 and System Failure have the info you're looking for. Also, the SR4 core book intro.

Emergence flat out tells us the fate of the First Gen AIs as well.
[ Spoiler ]
They all bit the dust.

The Deus progression really goes:
Renraku Arcology Shutdown > Brainscan > Threats 2 (The Network) > System Failure > Emergence
Or you can just as Ancient History for the recap (he's the best at it).
As for the end result? Ravor has it pretty much right. The great AI of the past are gone, no more are Morgan/Maegera, Deus, and whatever that General looking one was. They seperated into many more smaller AI that appeared in Emergence. Not as omnipotent, but still fun and available if you want to add it to a campaign. Hell, maybe you can have one as a contact?

or can play one when unwired comes around?
who knows?
and with SR4's matrix tech, it should not be to hard to play one either, as getting hold of the rest of the "team" should be quite simple...

HAHAHAHA, I hadn't even considered that option. Truly cool, however, given how they fucked TM's to deal with their power, I dont even WANT to know what they'd do to AI.

I am reading through threast 2 as we speak. Got up to Pax. Did she die or is she another street preacher now?
Well Deus was always one for having backups. And there are still the floors from 200 up that have not been breached... I could see him operating inside of SCIRE still and in some of the parts of the old Matrix. Hiding away on servers that are still somehow operate in the Matrix. I would see he does not really have any real power outside of the top arcology floors and in some of the wired Matrix systems.

Deus removed himself completly from the SCIRE into the Network. That's his backup. (Brainscan) He tried to restore himself during the Novatech IPO in '64, but thanks to the all the crash buisness he and the other AIs got wacked good. (System Failure). Also in System Failure after the crash are 3 Matrix entities that act like Deus, Meagara and Mirage, but if they are still around in '70, they can't be considered those AIs.

I've been wondering this myself; if she still had her powers, I think that we'd have seen something happen by now (in Emergence). Best possible scenario (IMHO) for poetic justice is that MCT captured her and handed her over to Dr. Halberstam.

Nah, he's gone from the Arcology... however, there's still the matter of the Network Nodes which are currently in comas around the world; I wonder how many died during the Crash when their life support failed.

Reality will collapse for about 0.0134 seconds and after it is restored you have two toasters.

Could someone give me a page reference on the fate of the three AIs after the crash?
(I'm currently running plotlines involving leftovers of both Deus and Megaera. One is a fragment that the last remaining Whites are trying to re-compile up to full strength. The other has become inextricably linked into the Nodes Mirage had separated from the network - a metahuman/AI hybrid)

System Failure page 123, the Hello World story. The three idols the woman mentions have looks and behaivior that match with the baseline characteristics of Deus, Maegara and Mirage. But they are not them anymore and what happend to them after that is unknown. Emergence also states that godlike AI are toast.

hmm, with both being ally spirits? sounds like it needs a errata then, as a TM and mage in cooperation could then create a infinite number of ally spirits without paying the costs.

The two toasters and spirits would be still the same toaster and spirit. And the moment you figure out what that'S supposed to mean, your ally spirit never existed. And the Toaster will rule all.
