Wirelessly hacking pacemakes with Defribs is still a deadly hobby.

We're considering a general warning here at work so that the new script kiddies don't hack any of our board members biggrin.gif

Signal was low, had to be 2 inches from the appliance to hack it, sounds like standard procedure for runners ware, don't broadcast at full signal.

The first book in the John Rain series by Barry Eisler has him doing exactly this - hacking into a pacemaker and effectively shutting it down to make it look like the target died of natural causes. IIRC, he had obtained the custom software used in hospitals to adjust the setting and had it hacked to remove the limitations.

I saw this at Yahoo News.

The signal rating on a pacemaker in SR4 would likely be either 0, or a skinlinked device. Either of those is still hackable, if you're creative... routing your traffic through a Fly-Spy equipped with a skinlink would be a decent way to pull it off. You could also hack their car while they're in it, or any number of other things they keep tucked close to their body (like the ubiquitous commlink).

Even randomly firing a defibrillator is a good way to give someone a really, really bad time. I'd hate to think what someone with some understanding of heart rhythms could do.
