Interesting read on the new "Stryker" brigade, designed to react against guerilla fighters in Iraq.
It also promises to set the tone for self-contained forces, severing the need for protracted support units.

Ah yeah, that's the APC that got bashed because they said it couldn't even stop small arms fire. Well, I think that was just the competition trying to discredit it. IIRC, it's very lightweight so that it can be easily shipped around the world and stuff.

Faszinating vehicle - not!
Sorry guys but vehicles like the GRIZZLY/PIRANHA series (Swiss MOWAG), the german FUCHS/LUCHS or the French Blindices can do that stuff since before the UdSSR abandoned us to the Americans (Okay, Putin's staging a comeback finally)
Old stuff and not really a good one since:
Light armor should not expect to be proofed against RPG'S, thats what IFV are for (okay, unless you drive in a Coke can aka Bradley)
Light armor with teeth (Rookiat, Lynx, EPR-10 etc) is relatively heavy. On the other hand, most situations don't need air-deployment and those that do only need few vehicles. Unless you are into invading foreign countries that is.
If you need a wheeled APC / gun carrier - Buy one, they are better!
Oh, "chicken wire" have been used back in WWII against RPG's and HEAT grenades. Commonly known as Schürzen and copied by the US until they realized that Tiger and Panther were using solid shots.

Except that the cavalry has been doing this for seventy years.

Don't blame me -- I'm not responsible for US military planning, structure or dogma.
