The preview, it is up...
Cthulhudreams
There is no PDF?!?!
Matsci
Huh. Was there supposed to be anything but a paragraph and some art?
BishopMcQ
Not yet. If I was to guess, I'd say that Unwired is one of the books that Adam sent to press tonight (per his Twitter). That would mean that we can hope to see a pdf in the next week or so--there are digital hoops to jump through for bookmarking etc that you don't need in a press-ready file.

If it hit the press today, then Unwired SHOULD be out for GenCon and maybe Origins. This of course depends on a dozen factors that I'm not privvy to, starting with whether or not this was in fact sent to the press today.

For more information, talk to a Catalyst employee. I'm just here to spread rumors and gossip.

In general the first preview is just art and some splash info. The second preview has actual pages from the book.

I reference: Street Magic, Runner Havens, and Corporate Enclaves. All three had a preview like what is showing for Unwired.
tsuyoshikentsu
Well, one step closer to street release.
hobgoblin
art looks good smile.gif
Method
Art looks awesome!! I hope that is indicative of the entire book.
JonathanC
I hope we get some BTL rules in this book.

Very seconded. Now I have to wipe the drool off my keyboard.

Rather than limit ourselves to doing "simple" art previews as we've done in the past, for Unwired we've opted to accompany the artwork with a brief description of the content of key chapters. Matrix Overview, now up, is the fluff chapter that covers all you ever wanted to know about the everyday Matrix use in 2070. More will follow in the next few days.
hobgoblin
gimme gimme gimme!
Blue eyes
Cool! Thats some really really great art! Any chance we will see more art from that artist (Eric Williams) in more upcoming books? "crosses fingers"
Drogos
I know it's been said, but since I don't believe it can be stated enough, that artwork was HAWT!!!!
Ryu
Yep, cool art. I want to see the cover, was it published already?
Heath Robinson
Art is nice, material will be interesting for various reasons. It's a shame I have no money.

Of course, we see only the best sides of the book right now. I expect that I'll have different opinions when I finally read it.
hobgoblin
heh, no way in hell that unwired will come away without critique.

for one, i expect trollmann to hold a book burning session with it as the central offering silly.gif
Zen Shooter01
Adam, when you say "more", do you mean, you know, the pdf?
CanRay
"WANTWANTWANTWANTWANTWANTWANTWANTWANTWANT!!!"

Sorry, Speeder got away from me, but I know how she feels!
paws2sky
Wow, that art is nice. And the description of the Matrix Overview chapter seems promising.

I'm going out on a limb and guessing that this won't make Origins (2 weeks away). Unless CGL's printer can do some quick turn on part of the print run...

I genuinely want to like that book. I have fears, but I would like nothing better than for them to be unfounded.

Honestly, it was my intention to leave the Matrix House Rules on hold for Unwired to come out so that I could see if they were still necessary. I planned from that point to combine terminology and make explicit reference to the Unwired ruleset. And then. Unwired kept not coming out. The whole project has been on hold for over seven months because I keep thinking that Unwired is about to come out and I keep hoping that Unwired is going to be good enough that my project won't even be required.

But hey, I'm in exam periods here at Charles University, so hopefully I'll happen to have some time as soon as I get a chance to get my grubby hands on Unwired. With Histology behind me, I'll probably be able to do a pretty decent turnaround on reading, evaluating, and extrapolating from Unwired. If it turns out that I still feel that house rules need to be used, I'll have some time to myself in California to update them.

hobgoblin
sorry about that, sometimes i really lack any kind of impulse control...

I'm going to say what everyone else has said. The preview artwork is gorgeous. If the rest of Unwired holds up in comparison that is going to be one excellent book.

Man, that's my favorite game ever... its why the investigators won't let me follow them here anymore twirl.gif

Yes, the art preview rocks my world, but I wanna see the cover still!! COVER!!!
Aaron
Christ on a stick, this is frustrating.
Jrayjoker
I don't have the BBB with me, is that the same artist who did the weapon specialist?

And yeah, love the art!

I can feel your pain...
Aaron
Don't think that goes unappreciated.

I have great hope for the book, especially since the latest releases. But redeeming the given matrix mechanics is a difficult endeavour indeed. Count me in on the community-support-group.

OK, one thing caught my attention in the preview: A term I had never seen, that has me curious:

What the frack is a "spider"?

The Spider sits in the web of sensors strung throughout the building, feeling every little twitch and signal on the line... Waiting to strike!!! vegm.gif

The artwork is very good, but looks a bit eighties, somehow. The rest of it - that's not even close to what I call a preview. But at least it's a sign that the book may be nearly here.
JesterX
I wish we had a table of content.

Adam? Catalyst guys? art thou monitoring this?
PlatonicPimp
Man, possibly out within a month? It's going to hard to walk around with this stiffy.
bofh
Awesome! Something to look forward to on my 2 week motorcycle ride to Alaska next week. I'll have a hard time not speeding home to get the book.

Thanks!

Very nice art! The wife even liked it.(she's an artist herself and tends to dog some of the SR art as "cartoony") wobble.gif

Have to agree CGL is being a terrible tease. I would have liked to see at least a little more skin,so to speak. spin.gif But I guess I will have to wait till I buy the book to get my jollies. grinbig.gif

I have to agree, I've been waiting to begin with my own house rules for my games in the hopes that Unwired would be out soon. I do have to say I'd rather see core books released before setting material... But that's my 2 nuyen.gif worth

There will be a few more art previews spotlighting key chapters, but pdf previews (incl. a TOC) will follow once we have a solid street date. More up.... now

It's not the art itself that looks '80s. It's the clothes and the hair. Just add a dude sporting a hachimaki headband and skinny tie Buckaroo Banzai-style and you'll be set!

The second set of illios is looking good too. I'm guessing these are acrylic and digital collages.
CanRay
Ummmmmmmmmm... It's Cyberpunk. It's supposed to look like the '80s! nyahnyah.gif
hobgoblin
is it? sure, the base concepts are children of the 80's. but is it not time things more forward a bit?

Actual PDF up before or after that?

We do not pre-announce when a PDF release will be available.

Was actually just wondering where the PDF release fit into that scheme, not a specific date. sleepy.gif
BishopMcQ
If previous experiences hold true, they will announce when a book is sent to the press with a Street Date for publication. Generally, the announcement about the street date coincides with the PDF being available for purchase at BattleShop, DrivethruRPG, etc. Note, I said generally, not always.

Previously, there have been previews starting a week or two before the announcement.

And remember, the more we shout at them or send Ninjas to attack, the longer it takes to get the job done. Instead of Ninjas, send cookies. IIRC, Chocolate Chip are the preferred variety.

Yes, but no chocolate chip cookies with herbal additives...those just make them eat more, and then nothing gets done! *ducks!*
