With the upcoming release of the advanced rulebook Unwired, we're dedicating this month's Shadowrun Chat to the new Matrix book and other releases on the schedule. The Shadowrun chat will be held this coming Saturday (21 June) at 10AM (PDT). The chat will be held as usual on the BattleCorps Shadowrun web chat.

Now I'm wondering if this does or does not mean the Unwired PDF will be released after the 21st.

Yes. It either does or does not mean that.
Ryu
In one form or the other there will be the necessary info to have a discussion. I´m hoping for a fast transscript, my Saturday evening will be decicated to good friends and maybe a short session, but not the internet.
Leofski
With 4 books scheduled for "Summer '08", they'll need to get the ball rolling fairly soon if they want to avoid heavily bunched releases.
hazemyth
The release schedule does seems a little pie in the sky, since it's been taking unwired forever. (Might JUST squeeze into Q2.)

But I don't get it. How are we supposed to ask questions about Unwired if it's not out by Saturday? I mean, most of hte big questions have been asked and answered, haven't they?

Actually, if it's released on the 21st, the answer would be "no."

I asked Adam about this in another thread and he said that the support they get from Catalyst has allowed them to hire more help and streamline their process. If things work out we will be seeing books a lot more frequently in the coming year. rotate.gif

[edit]Oh, and I think the "rate limiting step" (as they say in chemistry) is the production (lay out, printing, etc.) not the writing. With all the great freelancers floating around they can certainly generate good material faster than they can play test and publish it.[/edit]

I don't know. I'm sure there are a few people around here who would be content to ask "When is Unwired coming out?" over and over for 2 hours. ohplease.gif
Ryu
If you get bored by that:

- Will there be a touch-up of the matrix chapter of the main book after Unwired comes out?
- What is the general concept for future errata (of all products)? A core rule extension is bound to create issues, even with the general quality of the latest supplements. Plus a complete ruleset could allow for something like quarterly collections of approved errata.
Aaron
[On second thought, never mind.]

Here's hoping that they manage to pull it of smile.gif

Looking forward to the chat, will be interesting to get some info about Unwired, hopefully the release of the pdf and the actual book wont be far of as well.

New text from the website, highlighting mine:

In the wake of our previews of Unwired and its upcoming release, we’re dedicating this month’s Shadowrun Chat to the advanced Matrix rulebook and other new books on the release schedule. Drop in and get some insight on our fourth advanced rulebook from the developers and authors. The Shadowrun chat will be held this coming Saturday (21 June) at 10 AM PDT [17:00/5PM GMT] and as usual the chat will be held as usual on Battlecorps Shadowrun Chatroom.

Does anyone have a transcript of the chat?
Prime Mover
Usually few days before transcript is posted. Missed this months anyone hit on topics covered?

I realize that this post is a few days late in coming, but we have a winner. (At least with regards to the PDF.)
hazemyth
I was curious about what was discussed, too. But it looks like this has been totally overshadowed by the book, naturally.
Prime Mover
Overshadowed for sure, but heres to still hoping we see a transcript.
Blog
Been a few weeks and was curious about the Transcript for this chat

Thanks
Adam
Sorry. I'm crunching hard on several projects and I'm not allowed to do anything aside from them.

Well, at least when Holostreets comes out later this year(according to the CGL website, anyway), you won't have to worry about that anymore, Adam, cause the person who maintains the site will be like Schmetzer on Battlecorps, and keep us in our Transcripts. wink.gif

Maybe you should have one of the other layout people do it? Didn't you twitter recently about a greenhorn doing layout?
Adam
My layout people are busy. I have a single focus: finish Shadowrun books.
Muspellsheimr
Cut & Paste the transcript here for now until you can get it done as a PDF.

Adam,

I would be willing to take a look at the transcript and format it for you if you would like. I won't be busy this 4th of July weekend and I always have spare time at work.

Have the books delayed a day, or the transcript delayed 2 weeks...

Delay the books and get the damn transcript finished. I, for one, have been waiting patiently for the transcript, and that patience is nearly out.

Long Version
Look, I can't speak for anyone else, but I think that harassing people for free stuff is just plain rude. It occurs to me that Adam and the rest are trying to get books out so that Catalyst can keep publishing books; it's about cash flow. The transcript for an online chat that some people didn't bother to attend makes no money, and so is (and should be) of a low priority. My suggestion is to, in the future, either arrange to attend the online chats of interest, or to ask someone else that will be attending to cut-and-paste it for you. Haranguing people with Real Jobs isn't helpful.

Also, if one has run out of patience waiting for free stuff, I'd suggest that one stop waiting. I can't respect a person who unreasonably feels entitled to someone else's time, energy, or property.

Short Version
Quit whining.
Muspellsheimr
While the transcript does not directly bring in revenue, it is part of customer service/satisfaction, and so does affect income. I for one was and still am very interested in this last chat, and did not "didn't bother to attend", but could not attend. And as I have suggested before, it should simply be posted on these forums if they cannot find the time for PDF formatting. Doing so would take at most 15 minutes for cut & paste and basic layout.

There is a difference between whining & complaining. I have posted my suggestion on how to get the transcript available. It has so far gone unheeded. Adam obviously has time to periodically read & post on these forums, yet has not bothered to take my suggestion, explain why it would not work or why they cannot do so, or even respond at all in regards to the transcript except to say they are currently unable to work on it. Now, I have posted my (valid) complaint about how they are delaying the transcript for weeks so they can finish another far away project a day earlier (if that).

As for if I was whining, I would have instead been posting multiple rehashes of the same complaints with no suggestions on how to solve them, or really anything of any substance at all.
RunnerPaul
Are you still here? Your patience isn't finally out yet?
WhiteWolf

Honestly I don’t care for the monthly chats, but since they are done I like to read them. What I would rather see in place of the monthly chats is a section added to the forums that allows you to post a question to the people at Catalyst, and only they are able to respond to it. I have seen a forum that has a section like this, and here is how it works:

  1. Forum Member posts his question
  2. Question does not post until it has been reviewed
  3. Forum Staff (we know there are thousands of them smile.gif ) then reviews and notifies/distributes the question to the person capable of answering the question
  4. Once the question has been answered it is posted and the thread is locked so no one is able comment in that section (if you want to comment on it go to the general area (Dumpshock Forums > Discussion > Shadowrun). By locking the thread so you only have the question and the developers answer this would prevent the thread from expand.

As I stated above I saw this done on another forum and it has worked very well for the past few years, so that’s that is my thought on what I would like to see if this message board is capable of doing it (after all this is the only Shadowrun Forum I know of).

P.s. The crew from Catalyst would respond to the questions when they have a chance.

the dumpshock forums are not actually the CGL forums. it's not like the forum admins can just walk over to the folks at CGL and hand them a list of questions to answer. (well, i suppose certain admins could).

honestly, what with the number of questions that would be just as easy for the player base to handle, or for players to resolve for themselves, i don't think this would be a particularly necessary feature. frankly, it's more than sufficient that most of the devs/freelancers seem to keep an eye on the forums, and frequently provide observations about things that actually require their attention, while allowing players to handle questions where their intervention is not required.

I agree, and know, that this is not a CGL forum; and I never mentioned the forum admins would "walk over ot the folks at CGL and hand them a list of questions to answer." Having a seperate section where you could ask questions would be monitored by the CGL team as well.

"honestly, what with the number of questions that would be just as easy for the player base to handle"

"As I stated above I saw this done on another forum and it has worked very well for the past few years." The other forum has fewer people employed who are able to answer the questions, but their goal is also different from that of hobby game company. It's up to CGL and the owner of this board.

Like I said it's a suggestion. smile.gif

Since i've started seeing the transcripts I've wanted to attend the chats but it happens to fall on the timeslot allocated to my groups SR game smile.gif So I have to wait for the transcripts to be posted. I dont mind waiting for something free; as long as its released before the next chat session.

otakusensei
I missed the chat last time due to a computer error, java went south on me as the chat got underway. Better believe I was watching after and bought Unwired and the PDF as soon as I could. Read Unwired cover to cover, loved it and started watching for the chat transcript. I really liked the in character one, but I think I learned more from the old format. Haven't seen it yet so I'm just chilling.

If you can't wait for new info pick up the preorder with the PDF. Or go back over Arsenal with Unwired next to you. I've been knee deep in rebuilds of all my many characters I'll most likely never get to play. Love to read the chat when it's available though.
Adam
With two books off to press this week and two more in the proofing stages, and a full night's sleep -- a pleasant change -- I've made a day to catch up on all sorts of little tasks, and getting the chat transcript up was one of those. You can grab it here:

http://www.shadowrun4.com/wordpress/?p=241

I'm still exceptionally busy and that isn't going to change until after Gen Con. I won't be on DSF much, but I'll be back with some good news in a couple days.
ornot
Thanks Adam.
Prime Mover
Ohh good news !
Muspellsheimr
Thank you.

So, which books are being sent to press?
BishopMcQ
Shadowrun Books!

Extrapolating from the release order in the Chat, since Unwired has been released, Ghost Cartels, Runner's Companion and Feral Cities would be the next 3 in the queue.
Malicant
Screw Ghost Cartels, I want Runners Companion. Stupid plot delaying my precious crunch... spin.gif
Stahlseele
screw crunch and plot . . i wanna fluff! ^^
