OK I'm planing to run my first game in the near future and one of my players wants to make his runner a photographer. Since this will be a Los Angles set game it's a appropriate skill to have since there is most likely a market for photos from a run. However we're not sure what attribute to use or whether or not it should be active skill. Artisan/logic seems right but I was wondering if any one could suggest something else for taking photos in the middle of a firefight .

for combat shots, I'd have ah ead cam instead of hand held. i mean someone showing they are getting evidence will be more of a bullet magnet than 'geek the mage"

Really? My first instinct (if I were not to use Artisan) would be to tie it to Intuition (for me, photography would have to do more with Perception than Computer Programing) and a knowledge skill.

Of course, I would probably just use Artisan. Don't really see a reason not to.

I agree... Taking the good shots would be based more off of intuition more so than anything else... But I could see reaction too.

Exotic Ranged Weapon: Camera. If Fatal Frame has taught me anything, it is that photography is a weapon skill.
Hocus Pocus
you'd be like spiderman. Trouncing people and taking pictures for the daily bugle.

"News flash! fabe furiously fires flechette rounds at fleeing foot soldiers of fabulous furious frenki!! what awe and mystery surrounded these events? slot your credstick and find out!"

"Hocus Pocus, THE most powerful and sexy magic user in all the world? we think so! 5 page scoop of his mythic exploits, the babes just go ga-ga over him!"

Artisan active skill would cover photography. From my understanding, Logic has nothing to do with taking good photographs - aka there is no reason to change the attribute it is linked to.

Also, note that a camera is completely unnecessary, as cybereyes come with a camera equipped for both video and still shots.

And if Bioshock has taught me anything it's that get people's geneware why taking enough pictures of them. It helps if they are attacking you when you take the pic.

RAW would be Artisan. I'd let a player tie logic, intuition, or reaction that color the fluff description of the photo

Intuition + Artisan (Photography). Photography is a bit of a science, but then again so is operating a firearm, but that's not tied to logic. So intuition is the right attribute, and don't forget the specialisation.

But then again, it depends on the character. If he's a guy who sees photography as a science, and is vehemently studious about his art and intellectualises composition and other tenets of photography, then let him use logic, but it really depends on characterisation and which attribute the character prefers.

I actually play a radical photojournalist in a LA game, however, I don't actually use a photography active skill. Here's my relevant stats:

ACTIVE:
Artisan: 1 (Photo editing)

KNOWLEDGE:
Photography (Cyber): 2 (+2)
Journalism (Photojournalism) 3 (+2)

Snapping a usable photo is more complex than squeezing a trigger. I'd say your original assumption of Intuition + Artisan (Photography) would be the correct one. Arsenal stats out a couple of hand held cameras if you aren't going the cyber-route.
