I've been playing SR4 for 6 months or so. Now, I'm a big audiophile and I was wondering if anyone had current day examples of DwarfCore of GoblinRock?

When I run PbP's I use music from Youtube to add a bit of atmosphere to the game. My personal preference for Trogrock is some of the Scandinavian metal groups like Fintroll or Trollfest (they even have troll in the name

).

I second the call for Dragonforce. I don't know much else for Dwarfcore or Goblinrock, but for some good old Elven Angst I prefer Zeromancer.

Heavy Metal. The Heavier, the Better.
Or, better yet, Punk. This is CyberPUNK after all.

I think dwarfs would listen to Industrial-Techno. They are quite industrious after all.

Goblin Rock has always made me think of Type-O Negative and other goth-y bands. I mean, what else would you listen to when you're a blood sucker? Orxploitation is an obvious riff on Blaxploitation and I'd equate that to some kind of futuristic hip-hop or soul. I'm sure elves listen to
The Mummer's Dance, Enya and those other flute-y type pop songs. As for Trolls? The louder the better. Probably heavy on the drum beats.

The "punk" in cyberpunk refers to the breakdown of social order... not The Ramones.

Not that you couldn't listen to that, I suppose. RL cyberpunks are more into "Electronica, electronic body music, industrial, noise, futurepop, alternative rock, goth rock, neurofunk, techstep and IDM..." (quoted from Wikipedia).
Here's a thread where we went through this.

I suspect that despite their titles, the majority of bands sound like coldplay.

...well given the weight of an average 2 keyboard (61 notes) with pedal board (32 notes) pipe organ (18 -20 speaking stops & 22 - 28 ranks [rows] of pipes) is about 5 - 7 tonnes, I think that would qualify as "heavy metal".

Laugh at you? That soundtrack kicks ass! Bonus points for having a track sung by a former teenage porn star. ("Control" by Juno Reactor and Traci Lords. You can really see how her previous career influenced her music.

More on topic, try stuff like KMFDM or Rabbit Junk. That may be more Synthrash than Goblin Rock though...

i've always imagined a lot of music in SR sounds something like Melt Banana, Air Conditioning, Lightning Bolt, Masonna, and other stuff like that. indie hip-hop like Aesop Rock, Flobots, and Sage Francis are also probably good inspiration for SR-style music.
that, and japanese pop music.
but, all of these are based on my own PERSONAL music tastes. just like today, i am sure that the musical styles in 2070 pretty much run the gamut.
i believe it was a short story called "Freezone" by John Shirley that dealt with a band who was "edgy" because they played real instruments... as a guitarist, i like to believe that the overt phallic implications of the guitar (and especially the electric guitar) will never fade away, but i can easily see 95% of 2070's music being produced wholly by synthesizers. as a musician, the idea of DNI-controlled instruments is almost tempting enough for me to ditch my axe completely.
what really interests me is the possibility of magic-based/-influenced music. fluff has mentioned it once or twice (that i know of), mostly focusing on the emotional/empathic feeling of observing the musicians in astral, but i honestly have no idea what it would sound like. brings a whole new meaning to "they're way better live" though...
I've been working on an idea for a Face/Magician character whose day job is singing at underground nightclubs. (ie: the kind that don't bother to get permits, and prefer their customers and performers to be similarly extra-legal, so no one calls the Star.)
Makes a heavy use of Mob Mood spells to manipulate his audience--and his Johnson.
(...and probably his groupies.

Ah! just thought of something:
Goblin Rock =
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum?

at the risk of sounding racist, i'd say that SGM is way too smart for goblin rock. they are too avant-garde and experimental. i think goblin rock would have more of a grindcore influence, like Discordance Axis or Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza (the best band name ever).

Maybe a bit more mainstream like StaticX for Goblin rock?
Or should it be more metal like Fear Factory?

In the Adventure Module "Total Eclipse", the runners had to save a band from an evil Spider Shaman and his crazy buddy who may or may not have been a Horror...The song the band was working on was based around an ancient ritual of nebulous origin, and had something to do with the Shaman's buddy. Granted, this goes back to SR1 and Shadowbeat - where everything was very influenced by the '80s and early '90s... but i kind of LIKE that.
And they did play instruments, but at least a few of them could jack their instruments and use them mentally.
Weird Adventure. I didn't like it that much. Whatever.

I've always thought that Ladytron is very well suited to Shadowrun. They sound like something from the '80s future. Moreso in their older albums, at least. Other than that, I second Gogol Bordelllo.

The impression I always got was that Goblin Rock was part of the "We're Orcs and Trolls, we're big and scary and hard and manly, and nobody better get in our way" deal, when they were still heavily marginalised (at least more so than in 2070). So I imagine big loud heavy metal, as noisy as possible. You drink real ale, no pissy lager, and you listen to LOUD music, because you're hard as nails and stuff. Goblin Rock also comes out of Shadowrun's eighties origins, so lots of leather jackets and metal studs, lots of piercings too.
I imagine that by 2070 we'd be starting to see more in the way of eighties rap, that attempt to break out of marginalisation by putting the focus on the lyrical ingenuity and the powerful political messages. With the hard rock origins of goblin music, however, what I'm imagining is not pure rap so much as a kind of rap meets rock deal, a reinvention of nu-metal like Limp Bizkit or Papa Roach, but more of the lyrical ingenuity of Public Enemy (I have no idea if that would sound any good, I'm just spitballing here).
Dwarfcore I see as much more punk influenced. I imagine Dwarfs as the marginalised white guys, who nobody really notices because they're not exactly hated like Orcs and Trolls, just ignored, so they're a bit more mellow about it, but they also want to make some noise and be noticed. Gogol Bordello is a good call, and throw some Dropkick Murphys in there too (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-64CaD8GXw). Of course this is all just down to a look for Dwarfs that I happen to like; I don't want to think of them as just a bunch of tech-heads in some kind of future update of the Tolkien Dwarf. These guys should be ordinary people who have been shoved to edge of society because they're not the dominant race, but they aren't the plucky underdogs with the giant sympathy card either. Dwarfs are the butt of the joke, the guys that don't get demonised or lionised by the press, they just get laughed at and then pushed to the side. Sounds a lot like what the Irish have had to put up with if you ask me.
