Well as none of you know bar scope. On Friday night me and scope both played though a resonance search to dig up some more info on my runner. This was also a good way to see how the hacking by IM idea I'll work. Two things I learn for this is that its a lot of fun and doesn't detract from the fun of hacking and also that dice wise its easier to roll real one than use Invisible castle in such a situation.

OOC: wise my net loss was 1 physical damage and one edge. I'll give what I found out IC if/when needed.
Scope_47
To clarify what Dumori said, the IM session he and I did was simply a scene I ran to flesh out his backstory and the effects of his 'deprogrammed' quality. The actual game has not started yet and is not on IM with the exception of hacking secure nodes while the group is not in tactical initiative.

Alrighty guys, I'd like to shoot for opening the IC thread on Sunday so that everyone knows.
If you're character isn't ready by then, don't worry (I mean, try to finish as soon as possible, but I won't kick your or anything)... you'll have six days from the opening IC GM post to the deadline for your first character post.

That's cool I'm due back home on sat. No more patching in to local wireless on my iPod. I've made my life style but I think I'll remake it for just that room with a few plus matrix things in it then use it as a safe place to hack later in game.
Divine Virus
Ok, so here is my background and a really rough draft of my character sheet. I still have about 20 BP and 11 karma to spend. I am not entirely happy with the wording on the background. Sadie Rose came out more prominent then I had intended when I first sat down to write this. I may fill in the past few months with more detail before the game starts.

A quick question, if I am getting a rating 6 SIN and want a set of fake licenses to go with it, do I really need to pay 1 karma per license, or is some kind of a bundle deal possible?

Your draft looks good, but there is a niggle with your equipment. The form-fitting body suit cannot have the PPP add-ons and still be worn under other armor/clothing, as those add-ons specifically add bulk to an armor. I know that it doesn't saw so in the RAW, but common sense dictates as much. You can remove the PPP gear from it if you want to wear it under the chameleon suit, but otherwise you won't be able to wear both suits at once. Furthermore, since the PPP says that it is either under clothing or 'as an obvious strapped addition to other visible armor,' you have to pay for the Ruthenium Polymer Coating modification to the PPP armor (I'll let you mod all the PPP armor at once though, so you only have to pay the 7500 one time) you add to the chameleon suit, or people looking for you will only take a -2 perception penalty rather than a -4 perception penalty (this ruling is based on the description of the Chameleon Coating mod under the weapons modification chapter, where it says that carrying any weapon larger than a pistol reduces the perception penalty unless this mod is applied) I hope you don't think I am being too harsh, but that is how I believe it is intended to work.

Since almost everyone has a character that is essentially done, I'm starting the IC thread. This does not mean that we are stopping the character-gen process, the first IC post is purely optional - though strongly encouraged. The call from the fixers won't be posted until everyone has a finalized character sheet. This first post is just the prologue for your OOC edification. My intent is for you each to post what your character is doing at 7:30 PM on October 15th, 2072. The point of this first post is to show a 'a day in the life' opening vignette of your character while not on a job - both to give me an idea of how NPCs will perceive you and to let you get into character before being bombarded by run-related information. Your fixers won't contact you until midnight with the job, so you have until then IC to within this opening post take care of anything you want to do pre-game that requires in-game action (IE: tell a contact to start looking for some gear you want, do a datasearch for some info, etc). Note that at 8:00pm the news will come on the trid with the following stories:

1 ) Ares Arms stock dropped 15 points in the last hour when it was reported that the Vice President of the R&D division committed suicide in his office. No official statements have been given. Is this a sign that Mom and Apple Pie might not be enough to keep this corporate giant in the game? You decide in our online polls!

2 ) Seattle Under Fire: The Ferryman - a notorious assassin responsible for 128 deaths between 2052 and 2070, but considered inactive since last year - has struck again, this time killing Kyle Wong - a Shiawese corporation executive with suspected ties to the Sepoula Ring Triads - while his limo was crossing the Jamison Memorial Bridge into the Downtown district. Lone Star denied statement, but a source inside the department confirmed that the 'Ferryman' has resurfaced, stating "We hoped this guy was dead or in prison on some other charge... all we even know about him - if it is a him - is that he ritualistically destroys the eyes of his victims while leaving no forensic or astral evidence of any kind." The Ferryman, Criminal mastermind or incompetent police work - you decide in our online polls!

3 ) Mayor Brackhaven has announced a new ordinance that will restrict the passage of 'suspicious looking' individuals between districts between the hours of seven PM and seven AM. Meta-Human rights groups are protesting the new ordinance as a deliberate attempt to stemmy the rights of non-humans and further the agenda of the Humanis Policlub. Mayor Brackhaven insists that the ordinance has nothing to do with metahumanity - instead only being intended to curtail the rising crime rate. The ordinance is scheduled to go into effect in two weeks. Mayor Brackhaven: Crusading Hero or Racist Villain, you decide in our online polls!

4 ) The St. Mary Catholic Church in the Downtown district is celebrating the bi-centennial anniversary of its founding next month. The old building has undergone renovations, but the original archway constructed two hundred years ago amazingly still stands. Rome has announced a Papal visit in which the Pope will personally bless that archway and take confession from ten randomly selected individuals who attend the ceremony. Due to limited space, Arch-Bishop Benison is making the celebration a closed ceremony - those who wish to attend may make a donation online to receive their free ticket while supplies last. The Catholic Church: humanitarian organization or disguised corporation? You decide in our online polls!

Quick Question:
Is the Inquiline Protocol right or left handed? Am I automatically ambidextrous? Any special rules for firing a pistol in each hand?
Scope_47
Actually, technically by RAW having a drone fire a weapon is always a complex action even if you are rigging it.
I think that for an anthroform wielding weapons, we can overlook that part of the rules for non-mounted weapons and treat you as a character - so long as you are 'jumped in'. As for handedness, whichever hand you are giving the bulk of the processing power at the time will be your 'dominant hand' - so one round your left may be the off hand, and the next round the right may be the off-hand, but if you must pick one each combat turn to be the off-hand for all your passes that turn. Comprende? I think that that is a fair way to do it without giving out a free quality (you can still buy the quality if you want though)... but honestly, dual wielding pretty much is craptacular by RAW anyway, but if you want to split your dice pool like that while denying yourself the use of smartlinks and the like, then be my guest. I think that rewriting the rules for dual-wielding is a bit beyond what I'd feel comfortable doing at the moment.

Seriously, my first SR character did the dual-wielding thing... it is stylistically great, but game mechanically it really lets you down.

Just a quick Status update:
I got Raxle's finalized charsheet, so all we are waiting on at this point is for Divine Virus to finalize his sheet, and for Trigger to send a character sheet in.

Overall, I like the backgrounds I've gotten - they should give us plenty of subplots for the campaign.

DV sound very busy he's semi droped out of two games. So idk how long he'll be.
Cthulhudreams
Making smartguns quite viable is as simple as letting the smartgun bonus apply to both weapons. Then it is indeed worthwhile in pretty much all circumstances to dual wield a light pistol with RC comp.

Putting 1 dice +2 spec +2 smartgun in the left hand is unlikely to glitch, and will subtract 1 dice from their pool in the first shot and 2 dice in the second shot, making you one dice up in relative pools.

And sometimes it might actually hit.

So you're always up for the low cost of speccing i pistols and buying 2 x the ammo. Looks pretty balanced to me.
Divine Virus
I will have my character sheet and IC post up saturday night. Thats my goal. If I blow it, well, come hell or high water, it will be done for on Sunday. I have a day work tomorrow and a relatively short to-do list, so I should be able to make some progress.

As for duel weilding, I concluding that it balances if you use SMGs and tracer ammo. You can't use tracer with smartlink anyways, and it gives +3 to each dice pool when firing full auto. Since I have two high velocity modified FN Praetors, this works perfectly for me.

Buying equipment takes so long for me. All the options, figureing out the right balance of accessories and mods, weighing the various built in features, resisting the insane options.

But I think I am mostly done. All I have left is final armour tweaking, finalize my skillsoft library, get IDs, ammo, contacts, and knowledge skills.
Scope_47
I've received the question "How/when do you reset edge / award karma" several times, so I thought I'd go ahead and answer it on-thread.

I am dividing the runs into 'parts' - think of each part as an act in a play, so Act 1 consists of getting the job and doing leg work, etc.

I'll end each 'Act' with another 'elsewhere in the world' post (like the prologue), and refresh edge and award karma.

Further, good role play / character development / cinematic action can earn edge points back within an act.

On another note, since Trigger is AWOL, I'm bringing in 'De Bad Ass' (henceforth called DBA) as he was first in line as an alternate and has a character/backstory ready to go. If Trigger does reappear, then we'll just go with 7 PCs instead of 6 - I just don't want to leave you guys without at least six team-members.

Oh, those of you who haven't made opening posts, please either go ahead - I'll be posting the fixer-calls for the meet on Sunday. If you don't get a chance until after that, just roll your opening vignette in together with your response to the fixer call.

Well, my character still needs to fair bit or work done. I though I had finished the equiptment, it was exactly 50BPs worth... then I realized I forgot to buy ammo.
So I need to shuffle the equipment around, and I hate to say there is a chance it will not be done by tomorrow. Heck, more then a chance, probably it won't be done by tomorrow. But tomorrow is my last day of work, so after I should have more time to just grit my teeth and get it done.
I am definately keen to start the game, it is not for lack of interest, just lack of time. I'll post another update of what I have done tomorrow anyways, and should be able to make some kind of IC post.
Cheers!

If you want, you could just start out of ammo - you'll be getting a sizable up-front payment from the Johnson, so you should be able to stock up on ammo and supplies before the run. So long as nobody does something dumb, then there shouldn't be any fighting until after you've had a chance to pick up some ammunition.

True enough... honestly, I've had entire story-arcs of campaigns driven by a PC having a really dumb idea... here is a brief history of dumb ideas (not all of these are SR):

1: Hey guys, we have this time machine - sure it probably will kill us, but lets go back in time (without doing historical research) and stop this guy (a megalomaniac killed during his war to come to power) from being killed... that way he'd be president instead of the guy that caused the civil war ten years later... (they stopped the war, but created a monolithic Owellian state - all of which could have been avoided had they done a datasearch before changing history)

2: Hey guys, lets call the God of Fear, Death, Undeath, and Magic who has the ability to devour whole worlds a rude name (Skinny-Ass) to his face!

3: Hey guys, lets high four more teams of runners to start riots as a distraction, and lets make a deal with the halloweeners and give them a truck load of bad kamakazie if they attack our target at a certain time... even though the Johnson said keep a low profile.

4: Hey guys, let's open the cold-storage box that says bio-hazard all over it when we don't have any sort of protective gear whatsoever!

5: Hey guys, let's call our employer from the landline belonging to the guy we just whacked!

6: Hey guys, let's go get the guards and report a murder... while we are covered in blood and have blood-stained weapons... and let's bring them the evidence we found too...

7: Hey guys, lets do the exact opposite of what our employer wanted in spite of the fact that she clearly laid out why not to do that... thereby getting her killed before she can pay us...

8: Hey guys, lets fire a gun in the air and thentell everyone to shut up when there are a bunch of PTSD war-vets pointing guns at each other, and half of them have their backs to us and therefore can't see us...

9: Hey guys, we need a van to blow up... lets steal this one that's heavily armored and parked in front of a dark office building in the middle of the night with its engine running...

10: Hey guys, the face is going to have all the guards playing cards with him in the breakroom for four hours - so we'll have the run of the place that long... since we might need more time, lets give the face a dozen doughnuts each with enough poison to make a troll puke their guts out except one for the face to eat... there are four guards, and a dozen doughnuts... (it didn't occur to them that more than one of the poisoned doughnuts would make a fatal dose...)

11: Hey guys, we were hired to rescue someone being held by the Vory before she gets murdered... she's being held at a closed scrapyard and its the middle of the night... lets stand outside and continue discussing tactics for another twenty minutes when we clearly see that a limo pulled in twenty minutes ago and not long after the foundry and scrapping machines turned on...

I just noticed your post about my armour, and I would contest both points you made (about extra money being needed for the PPP system, and about it not being compatible with form fitting body armour).

Clearest cut case first. As you mentioned, there is more than one kind make for the PPP system. It stats the the PPP system comes in at least three variates.
1) Obvious armour mods
2) Sports version
3) Concealed versions.

The PPP on the Chameleon suit is of the third type, and thus, since it is not on the outside of the suit, shouldn't require further chameleon coating.

I would further point out that the concealable version ( believe the exact word they used is "discreet"), it cannot add THAT much bulk to armour. I always saw it more as reinforcement. Furthermore, it states that those three styles are the minimum available for each piece of the PPP system, suggesting further makes and designs are possible.

Considering this, it does not seem like common sense that a PPP system would make form fitting body armour to bulky to fit under other armour. I could understand it making it too bulky to fit under tight clothes. But too big to fit under loose jeans and an armoured jacket? Even the chameleon suit, which wouldn't exactly be loose, could surely still accommodate the slight increase in bulk. Consider the Zoe moonsilver scarf. We are in a day and age when a gossamer-fine scarf can be sufficiently armored as to add a point of armour. Surely the hard "densiplast" the PPP system is made up of need not be thicker than a sheet of corrugated cardboard if they wanted to make it as such. Considering advancements in plastic technologies and that it is only adding 1 extra point of armour. And surely with the modern foams of 2072, the padding need only be the same thickness again. So we are dealing with maybe an extra centimeter of thickness under clothes. I could see a problem if the chameleon suit was spandex, but by my understanding, it isn't. I always imagined something a bit looser then the Bride's yellow bike suit in Kill Bill. In fact, I was planning on having my Chameleon suit designed to look like a motorcycle suit, so I could wear it about without attracting unwanted attention.

I could imagine PPP on form fitting armour getting in the way if I tried to put leather pants, spandex or other tight clothing on the Otomo drone, but if the Inquiline Protocol keeps things casual, in my mind, there should not be a difficulty.
Scope_47
The exact quote from arsenal on the three types is (emphasis mine):

"Each piece of armor is available in at least three styles: as discreet protection designed to be worn beneath other clothing, as an obvious strapped addition to other visible armor, and as sports equipment"

My interpretation of this is that this statement is that the discreet version is designed to be worn under regular clothing rather than armor, ergo it cannot be added to a suit specifically stated to be "Form-fitting body armor uses advanced synthetic materials that breathe and stretch with the body, and is custom-tailored to each individual wearer. It can be either worn as standalone armor or beneath other clothing or armor" - because that suit is A: not clothing, and B: is obviously specially designed to function like a second skin, so adding densiplast sections would impede that function - thereby preventing it from providing the unique exception to the armor stacking rules.

Further, note that my differentiation between armor and clothing is supported in the second quote - if armor and clothing were considered one and the same, then the description of the Form-Fitting Body Armor would not have gone out of the way to specifically say "clothing or armor"

As for your Scarf reference, that scarf is also twice or more as expensive as any of the PPP armor, and only stacks with other Moonsilver Line armor - there is a large difference between something with less stopping power than an everyday leather jacket, and something with the stopping power of a bullet-proof vest - this difference being in the materials used. Further, there is a large difference in the material makeup of something designed to offer moderate protection under clothing and something to provide extra protection to armor - which would require more in order to provide the same increase.

Since your entire argument is based upon making an IMHO erroneous inference that clothing and armor are interchangeable terms, I am standing by my previous ruling. If you wish, you may consider this a house rule, but I believe that it is how Arsenal was intended.

<edited to add>: As for hiding armor with casual wear clothing, yes you can do that so long as you wear baggy clothing like a hoody or a sweatshirt and a pair of baggy cargo pants or some such. But people are going to get a perception check to realize that you are wearing armor underneath. Note again that you are assuming that clothing and armor are the same thing, so your point that the ability to wear baggy clothing to hide armor becomes moot when you attempt to apply it to why you should be able to wear PPP on both sets of armor you are wearing and therefore double dip on the bonus.

- Scope
Divine Virus
So then if I was wearing jeans and a long sleeve shirt, I could attack a PPP system to it? What if I was wearing said clothes with PPP under my chameleon suit with external PPP system, would I then get the bonus from both PPP systems?

Since the body suit has to be custom made, and the RAW does state that those 3 makes are not the only designs ("available in at least three styles") they would it not be possible to have a PPP system integrated into the suit at the time of its making? Considering that the Inquiline Protocol knows the exact capabilities of its Otomo, and knows exactly where the fabric would have to stretch most, and where it could afford lesser flexibility, I think pieces of the PPP system could have been integrated at the time of its creation.

I won't push the point further after this, if you say no, I will accept.
Scope_47
The reason you wouldn't get the bonus for both sets is because of the armor stacking rules - to which there is only a single unique exception in form-fitting body armor.

As for your second point, that is covered under the armor custimization rules - pay for gel-packs if you want to increase the armor rating of the form-fitting body armor without losing the unique exception to the armor stacking rules.

I wish I had my IM running right now, but I'm just on my lunch break at work and its computer doesn't have AIM.

Question, if I get a industrial automotive shop, could it not be rigged, for the purpose of working on the Otomo body? Same goes for a cybertechnology shop?

Also, would the contact Sierra Cope sell ammo or do weapon mods?

Could you please elaborate a bit on your personal view of the distinction between a connection 3 and a connection 4 contact?

Thanks!

DV
Scope_47
1) I'd say that for a shop designed to let you work on both the Otomo drone and the cyber-components you installed in the drone's arms, you don't need to buy both an industrial mechanic shop and a cybertech shop - instead, just pay 7500 and we'll say that your full industrial shop also includes just enough cybertech tools to work on those components as well. That should save you some money.

2) Sierra is an armorer and hardware specialist. She sells weapons, armor, ammunition, etc (specializing in longarms), and she also does custom mods to weapons. Her shop is usually pretty busy, as a lot of runners and mobsters use her, but she's one of the best in the plex.

3: Basically, use the following chart which is a little more concise than the one in the book - also, connections more represent power than who they know... a street bum might know a lot of people, but can't get them to do squat for him, so he'd be connection 1:
Connection 1: street bum
Connection 2: Localised sub-culture-wide connections (IE: the Ancients in the Redmond Barrens)
Connection 3: District-wide connections (IE: a detective assigned to a particular district)
Connection 4: Organization-wide connections (IE: mafia or yakuza made-man, etc... but limited to within the plex with occassional connections in other cities)
Connection 5: Continent-wide connections
Connection 6: Global connections

Hopefully that helps.

Divine Virus
It does help, and I actually meant Loyality, not connection and wrote the wrong thing:P
Thanks a ton!
Scope_47
Ok, Loyalty:

1: I know your name and that you aren't a cop
2: I know that you are reasonable and that I can expect repeat business from you
3: I like you, don't see you enough so its more a working relationship, but I actually like you.
4: You're my friend - we go to the movies, clubbing, etc sometimes... I know that if I'm drunk and need a ride, I can call you.
5: You're one of my closest friends... you're the one I call when I need a shoulder to cry on, the one I'd trust to take care of my kids if I get killed tomorrow. Perhaps you are my significant other.
6: I would die to protect you... and I might make sacrifices to protect you without letting you know that I made sacrifices, because I wouldn't want you to feel bad... you're not just my friend, you are a true comrade - or perhaps I love you... real, unconditional love.

Just as an addendum to my post above, loyalty is a two-way street - if the NPC doesn't feel it is being reciprocated, then their loyalty may drop. Loyalty may also go up if you treat the contact well and go out of your way to help them out or just be a chummer and invite them to to a party once in a while.

Righty oh! I've got a pile of questions and rolls I need results from for my response to the call. BTW, I'm having WAY too much fun coming up with independent actions... we need to get underway before I create a whole adventure just for myself. ^_^

1) As Dimitri leaves Luna's Cafe, he'll try to spot any tails and will put effort into losing any tails there may be, visible or not.

2) He's going to be looking for someone to pickpocket, and will proceed to shadow them in order to find a good time to preform said nefarious deed.

3) He will disguise himself to look like his alter-ego Joe Smingleton and will go the the Castle in the Sky to look over the place and to see if he can spot the Ms. Johnson when she arrives.

Now, I need the following:
1) any results and outcomes that may come from these actions.
2) see #1
3) What he sees, who he recognizes, and how much an average meal would cost.
Scope_47
@Mickle
1) You spot no tails and are fairly certain you weren't followed
2) You follow a fat mafioso (you were in Puyallup city after all) and pick pocket a dead-tree newspaper off of him... when you are out of sight and open it up, you see that it was rolled around a bloody (literally, not a Britishism) razor blade - the straight folding sort that used to be used for shaving in the 1800s, but today is mainly used by re-enactors and murderers... why a fat putsy guy had it, you don't know.
3) The Castle in the Sky restaurant is a standalone building downtown, its ground level footprint is the size of a lobby and has several elevators... the rest is a shaft taller than almost all the rest of the city allowing one to view most of the district from above (though the Ares building and several other buildings are taller, they are far enough away not to disrupt the view and rather give a nice skyline). The building expands into a saucer shape at the top, which you assume is the actual restaurant - which itself is several levels high, and then there is a glass domed, smaller, top level. On the first level of the saucer, a helipad juts out on either side, giving the whole building the general shape of an ornate cross. However, you don't make it to the elevator (yet). As you enter (I assume this is around 1:30 AM, as you spent a lot of time with shadowing, pickpocketing, disguising, losing tails, etc). When you approach the entrance, you note that there are two troll doormen in victorian British Guard uniforms (complete with funny hats and flintlock rifles) standing at attention, and there is a human host standing at the red carpet entrance (with awning leading to the sidewalk, actual red carpet, velvet rope cordons, etc). The host is an older British-looking gentleman in a red victorian suit - double breasted with a multitude of brass buttons and long coat-tails. He is wearing a round monacle on the tip of his nose, and looks down at you when you walk up as he says "I'm sorry, sir, but this establishment requires a reservation" He smirks "And you, sir are most certainly not on the list." If you argue (assuming you don't mention the H. Chaplin party), he'll basically act like Bruce Campbell's character from the Spiderman movie (the guy at the theatre who wouldn't let Peter Parker in to see Mary Jane's performance) and be incredibly insulting without breaking the British Gentleman persona... if you get pushy, he'll snap his fingers for the trolls - at which point your post would need to end so that I can make the GM response. If you DO mention the H. Chaplin party, he will instantly become apologetic and subservient, but will instruct you to either wait in the lobby until your party is called to the elevator by the human operator at the reservation time (the lobby is a plush neo-victorian affair that is the equivalent of High-lifestyle ammenities, complete with an open bar though no food... I'll be describing it more fully in my GM post, which assumes that PC posts end when you get past the Host and into the lobby) or that you return no sooner than 2:45, as your reservation is for 3:00. If you want to try to sneak in, you'll need to make an IC post up to that point, post your roll here, and await my response.

As for prices etc, asking for a price-list from the employees gets the laughed at "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" response. Doing a datasearch (1) test pulls up a review... apparently an appetizer is 500 nuyen... and a full meal can run more than two grand.... this is a luxury lifestyle type restaurant.

As for security, with your perceptive abilities you notice that there are MAD AND cyberware scanners discreetly built into the entranceway, the trolls' rifles are disguised assault rifles, and it isn't difficult to surmise that the host has a mental panic button given the small fiberoptic cable running from his temple to under his coat - discreetly disguised as a monacle line of course.

Right, well that's interesting...

Huh. Snoot at me, will they?

New question! Can I borrow a limo from Boris?

Alright, so of course I have found a few small mistakes in my sheet. Nothing big. I just gave one ID the wrong class of gun license, and also need to flesh out the backstory for a few of the IDs a bit better. I will get you the errata and hopefully an IC tomorrow.
Cheers!

I'll have my next IC up soon its a bit of a text wall again but should be that last of them.
Scope_47
Just as a reminder to those who haven't made an IC post yet, they are due on Sunday.

Also, Trigger, you need to send me a character sheet by Sunday.

Still alive, just busy as hell. Will get an IC by sunday.
Scope_47
I'm going to be unavailable until sometime on Sunday, as I have some real-life issues I have to take care of.
Scope_47
Sorry I haven't posted the next GM post yet, I was going to tonight after I finished my work for tomorrow, but its already 1am, and I just now finished - so it'll be tomorrow. (Shame how work piles up when you have to go out of town for a couple of days unexpectedly... BLEH).

Fortunately, this gives Raxle and Trigger a little more time to play catch-up smile.gif

Oi, I've been in contact with Scope and, unfortunately, she has been inundated with a whole pile of problems. However, she has indicated that, sometime in the near future, she would like to actually get this game going. Ergo, If you're still interested in participating, sound off so that we know who we still have.
