hmm, makes me think of the brain boxes used in the rifters saga to filter data traffic...

If they can get a bunch of random brain cells to link up and behave predictably, maybe we'll be able to harness all that unused brainpower we have.
Heath Robinson
About a year back we were using rat brains to fly simulated fighter jets. This is old hat in concept, but an interesting development.

We don't have any unused brainpower. That's an urban myth. Maybe 10% of your brain is used in "conscious" tasks, a lot of the rest is dedicated to processing sensory data and movement. Anything left over goes towards the subconscious generated sensation; emotion. Some of it is dedicated memory.

Ha ha. I was going to say "all that (supposedly) unused brainpower we have." but decided against it.

Thanks for hitting that one Heath Robinson. I hate that myth for a number of reasons.

Just to build of what Heath Robinson said, they've done mapping that shows that we use virtually every portion of our brain, just not at at the same time. If you were using all your neurons at once I think that would generously be termed a seizure.

hmm, now i see what the matrix does. it turns all that extra data that we pr today have to translate into graphics (mostly) and then, using our visual part of the brain tranlate that again into other "data" that some other part of out brain can make use of.

but if this is instead directly feed to the brain as multisensory data, expecially stuff like movement, and the user builds up experience in a given metaphor, then he can respond to VR experience on reflex, in the same way a caveman would to a flash of color and movement in the bushes, or a sound or smell carried on the wind.

no need to go thru multiple levels of translation, the brain instead picks up on it instinctively. and if one have the genes to be a adrenaline junkie, hunting virtual predators may well trigger the same chemicals in your body as going after a real one.

you dont experience the matrix, you live it wink.gif

and for TM's, even more so...

Which is why I hate the idea that a cold hacking, AR wire monkey can hack anything like a decker can.

But that's a debate for another time smile.gif
hobgoblin
i would say that the simplest fix there is to do with search what was done to probing attacks. basically bump the timeframe pr test for AR hackers vs VR hackers.

still, with some toys from augmentation i think the VR hacker is still on top in the speed department. the AR hacker is safer tho...
DocTaotsu
I've never run an all up hacker encounter so I can't say for sure. If I ever do I'll certainly have to see how your recommendations work out smile.gif
